stDarNES1: Stars!

Sorry, I was away for most of the weekend.

Krimzon - your starting EP/turn is 3

Erik - the Terraforming bonus to Development increases the MAXIMUM DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL for a Star System - it doesn't give you a free development. Sorry for not making this clear.

I have received numerous questions on colonization, and how to do it. Here is essentially what you need to say:

-Load x colonists on transport
-send colony transport to star system to colonize

Unless it becomes too hard for me to keep track of, I will carry that initial order through your turns, since some starlanes take more than 1 turn to cross.

Your colonization order will take effect the turn the Transport Arrives in the Star System, and you will be able to use that EP for the following turn.

Be aware that it is probably wise to EXPLORE a Star System first, instead of just throwing colony ships out there.

I'm glad people are spotting kinks in the system. We'll hammer this out and make it work nice and smooth for the 2nd DarNES. :)

By the way I am still here. And here is my first story;

Red!

Joat slammed the microspectrograph on the lip of the fissure; "Damn it!" she exclamed over the general comm band.

"Something up kid?" broke in the kindly voice of the Task Hatten2.5 from the other side of the rock. A flickering of the displays being induced in her optic nerve informed joat that he had cut her out of the main band, just as a number of complaints flicked in. The other crew members would be pissed off with her distracting them as they technicaled down into the rocks core, but Task would always make time.

"Cyanide! again" she lamented over the newly private band, "That makes seven so far with plustraces. the whole damn rock is probably laced with it"

"Well maybe the next one will be purer..."

"Please, Task, whats the point of hiring a volitiles prospector if you ain't going to to trust her judgement in these things? If these seven are cyanideplus, then the whole damn rock will be. Anyone else find anything yet?"

"Jamt got a nice blade of almost pure iron at 456, 56 and 2 meters in; got to be over a megatonne. The rest are still hopeful"

"Pah, like we could afford to lug a megatonne about! Face it Task, without any cheaply purifiable volitiles, this rock ain't worth anymore than a whores modesty"

Joat lay back on the edge of the fissure, finding an exposed bit of rock free from dust to take her ease on. She stared up at the stars, visible now the rock had rotated away from Ophia, even the much dimmer light of Ophib was jsut below the horizon; nothing to spoil the view. The points of starlight were hard and gleaming, Joat had been born and lived all her life in space; she had never seen a star twinkle through a planetary atmosphere like a badly tuned marker light. Joat smilied to herself at the romanticism of the thought; Madya's thin and filthy atmosphere would never show a star twinkling even if she had ever taken a trip planetside.

For a second, she thought her mind was playing tricks on her as one other stars near the rocks horizon seemed to shimmer. A second of concentration brought up her auged senses to destroy the illusion; distance: 200 klicks, length: 300 metres, visual return: metallic; it was a ship! A flipping huge ship at that!

Just as she was about to announce it, Task came on the general comm band again;

"Everyone, drop what your doing and get back to the scuttler, we need to break out the steam shovels and the extractor fans. Joat, go and start up the microwave spider. Move people!" Joat had to smile at that; he was using his 'Captain voice' again.

"But Task" she interjected, "its not worth it to lug that slush to a filtering plant!"

"Actually Joat, the filterin' plant is coming to us; the good starship Tumbleweed is taking on all the volitiles it can grab. Its been over the iceclaw 'clave, the philsdotters, my cousins in Hatten2.3 and now its zipping over to us."

The babble of voices and text on the comm band that followed this remark were swept clean by Task.

"One at a time, damn you. Samer, you first"

Samers excited tones came on in that annoying voice of his; Joat quickly filtering him down to text only rather than be annoyed by it. "But where is it going? that route won't take it near any of the outer planets, or anywhere else for that matter!"

There was a brief paused as Task savoured the news;

"Well son, thats coz shes a starship."

"They're leaving the system?!"

"You think?, now move you idle fecks! Theres serious credit to be made here!"

Hawk 1 online, call off.

Hawk 4 here.

Hawk 6.

7 Hawk, ready to rock.

Hawk 2, behind you.

Hawk 8 online.

Hawk 3 here.

Hawk 5 here- sorry, connection problem.

Hawk leader to Haven command, squadron ready.

Haven command command here, you're object of defense is the scoutship at 42-330.

Hawk leader, co-ordinates acknowledged. The Hawk squadron raced down to the vessel. It slowly began to move, and after several minutes, passed out of sight.

Haven command here, Scouts are away.

OOC: Do transports show up on my stats? If I have to buy one, cancel the fighters in my orders and build a transport.

Yeah, I'll fix the x,y issue when I post the first update. Sorry, for how I was making all the detailed information for the Star Systems, it was easier to think of the map in ROWS, and not COLUMNS.

Any other issues that need to be taken care of prior to the first update?

My coordinates for direction are horizontal degrees, vertical degrees, in case you're wondering.

Each faction starts with fighters and scoutships. Transports must be built (which gives you time to explore a star system or two).

Next clarification - only one person has gotten this wrong, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. FIGHTERS need a CARRIER to be transported through starlanes. Fighters are too small to carry the jump engine necessary.

Me too! Dangit!

EDIT: Resent.

Missing orders from Kal'thzar and Krimzonstryker. Orders aren't due 'till Wednesday, but if I get everything early, it's possible we'll have an early update. ;)

Uhhh oh yeah orders

Spend 1 EP on troops

2EP to grow economy

Send Scout ship to explore Pillius

I demand an explanation for this one.
There's no such thing as a "vertical degree" since "vertical" is a direction, usually an axis in most systems, and if you mean "theta, phi" like I've been saying the whole time, there should be no need for phi greater than 180. My head hurts.

Okay, Vertical is horizontal degrees twisted 90 degrees, although you are right, it is useless to have a vertical value over 180.

Example:

Straight ahead: 0,0
Straight up: 0,180
Backwards: 180, 0
Backwards and down45 degrees: 180, -45

Straight ahead: 0,0
Straight up: 0,180
Contradictory. Either the first one is straight down, or the second one is directly backwards. 180 degrees is the reverse of 0 degrees no matter which way you slice it.
:crazyeye: Now I'm really confused. :crazyeye:

Suggestion: Read this wiki article before trying to build a new system from scratch.
"Smart people learn from their mistakes, but wise people learn from other people's mistakes." It'll go faster if you don't insist on making all the same mistakes all over again. :p

I'm stumped at the apparent fascination with co-ordinates... :D
