A diplomat saying something stupid, an accident with a spaceship (that's obviously your fault because we wouldn't have been so incompetent as to blah-blah blah blah blah), general misunderstandings, a secret plot uncovered to dethrone my leader, or a deadline that ran out because your precious "Totally anarchic Democracy" bickered for ages and nobody could decide anything?

EDIT: Iggy bickered, so "I hereby formally and politely declare war." You have four turns' warning before I attack, so there's nothing sneaky or underhanded about this.

You'd be surprised. And allow me to explain my government. A majority is not required to pass a law, just the largest number of voters. And my military is not democratic. So don't think my officers will just vote to surrender. Don't be so quick to underestimate us.

While our people in no way wish for war and in no way would think of attacking you, we will defend ourselves, to the death should it be necessary.

Is there mandatory voting? How long do votes last? Who can call a vote? (Hint: None of these questions have a right answer.)

I don't underestimate your military per se, only their weapons, their overcommand and their people.

No, as in the board game Risk, where diplomacy is limited to "don't attack me, attack him!" and there's not even the ghost of a moral right to lost territory.

If you're talking about the adjectives I used in the "most advanced nations" post, they're taken from Civilization 3, where The Venerable Bede, Tacitus and other historians will pop up to report on the "Largest nations" and "Happiest nations" and "Richest nations" every so often. It's a fun game. You should try it sometime.

I'm hardly "kicking Iggy around" when I give him four turns' warning, and that includes the buildup of troops. Right now his fleet is as large as mine (550 fighters v. 340 fighters and 12 cruisers) and most of my troops are in the other end of the empire.

Besides, he started it. Really. So I'm justified in being arrogant at him.

BTW, Iggy, still waiting for answers to the questions I put to you 15 posts ago.
