Steampunk Amphibious Tank (Help Needed)

And heres a brand new model which is also all up for grabs for anyone wanting to texture and animate it.

Also for a steampunk type setting, we now have here an armored and armed war train, oddly enough I haven't seen any other train models for Civ IV yet.

I think there's only one converted train model, which has some problems...not sure.
The problem with trains is, that there's just no proper use for them in Civ :/.
But i guess the model can also easiliy be perceived as some steampunk tank.

Well, in RifE (which is more or less what he made it for ;)), the Mechanos have railroads, and it is possible to limit a unit to moving on specific routes.

Their Mobile Fortress, for example, can only move on Railroads. So there would be a use for a train. ;)

Valkrionn is very much correct, but you did make a valid point The_J I guess it could also be passed off as a steamtank.

In the meantime I will attempt to texture this myself, hopefully with somewhat decent results. I guess all it will need is someone to animate it, add emission points for smoke coming from the stacks/chimneys constantly and cannon blasts from the cannons when firing.

Also I am currently optimising the model some more by cutting down the polys even more which hopefully should mean texturing will be easier, so expect a file update within the week, so anyone whos willing to give this a try please wait a little while longer.

War wheel animated and added to database,

details:
The complete model has ~ 1450 vertices and 1250 triangels (2400 for the non shader mesh - stripified to support damage texture), and uses one 256 texture (together with a 128 gloss and 128*256 damage texture)

It´s only a very basic animation set - only one strike (machine gun weapon effect) and die animation - and run surely isn´t perfect. Some parts of the animation and the nif were based on Refars "Wehrmacht Biker".

Tested and scaled with modern armor xml entry

thanks :)

And now we just need the tank in the OP... :mischief:

the tank is the only unit i don´t have from /]rchon - so if he didn´t uploaded the tank in the rife art thread - i can´t do anything atm

Would you please help me? I know some coding stuff and am learning more (Yes, I know a little SDK), but I'm totally cluless with animation. I've looked at the tutorials, but I still can't get it! I've determined that it's just not my thing. I am making a mod that has the potential to become famous. I really need your help because, as I said, I'm clueless with art. So could you please help me?

Why do people always ignore me?

Well, anyway, I now have access to an endless repository of 3-D art data: the SPOREPEDIA!

Thing is it doe not have any texture on it whatsoever, the renders I did was with drag and drop materials that luckily fitted to the mesh somewhat well.

have the tank - will need a bit time, have to create the uv and the texture. But atm i´m optimistic that the tank will "rock" in game. And i would guess it will be still this year ;)

Thats great news! =D

I look forward to it greatly as Im sure it will rock in game.

I think you might be posting in the wrong thread to recruit for a mod, if you want results it would be best to create your own thread to sell your idea, also if its help your looking for making that new thread would most likely get you some, as people tend to visit new threads all the time.

Alright, I'm back with another little steampunk themed model I did of a flying battleship type zeppelin, yet another thing I dont think has been done for Civ IV.

This baby is looking for a nice man to texture her up and make her look all pretty. Below are her files in .3DS and .OBJ. Please post any results and files here.

She could also use some animations if anyone would be up for that, though nothing too special, the propellers just need to turn slowly at all times, and it really just needs a attack animation where all its frontal facing guns fire off in random succession, cannon style blasts and all. And an explosive death animation.

Thanks.

Could you upload the version with your (red and yellow) skin on it?
It could prove quite useful as a reference and make our lives a lot easier.

Also, could you attach the wood material you used for the steam tank? I could use it as a base for the trim...

Alright heres the model for you with the main body speprated into 2 parts like you asked in the other thread, also in this file is the wood texture, though I must tell you go sparingly on the wood here, after all this is the Mechanos prized flagship, there would be little exposed wood at all on the outside, mostly iron/bronze plating and such, with possible golden trimming here and there for a imperial look, we dont want to cheapen the look of it with wood everywhere =P

Also the red and yellow render isn't even a skin, in my 3D prog its just a drop and drag flat color material I dropped onto selected polygons, in other words it doesn't exist as a physical texture or anything that I could give to you, unless you yourself use C4D.

But thanks for wanting to give this a go, its appreciated.

Tell you what. Here are a few screenyes from 3dMax that shows my progress and you can give me input on what to change.

Alright I know this should work out and look great, if first you lighten the balloon texture to be a more light creamy white. Secondly that bronze steel and bolts texture you've got on the middle band, I want you to apply that throughout the majority of the model cause that looks great.

Much like this example Ive prepared where I drew over a rendered frame, Id like if you could closely follow it, I studied over a few imperial ships to get an idea for the sort of markings and such we could use, in all I think this look achieves the sense of a "grand flagship"

The details I did are bare minimum so feel free to make the textures far more realistic and detailed if needed, as said that balloon texture if lightened up would work great, and the same with that bronze plate used, also take note only the top half of the Lenora is exposed cloth and material, the bottom half is armored and plated, so the cloth doesn't stretch the whole length around.

Anyway after all those changes it should look really pro and awesome :3
