I do have hills, and hills have minerals and whatnot. Hills, I say! Hills!

but you dont many hills (if any- ot certinalyl dosent look liek it when you compare the terrian set up to the territoy map)- and agian, thier no garuntee that you will have the proper minerals

of course, one might say that te same goes for me- not really, i have not just hills, but full blown mountians in close proximity, and moreover, have several rivers that sweep down minerals from the mountians- so i can pan the rivers fo rth emineral i need, until i can claim real area to mine ;)

Espirito doesn't mark hill-land on the map...

So how 'bout it Esp... Is bronze and iron in the not-too-distant future, or is it really just miles away?...:(

yes he dose- its the orgish brown colour on the terrian map

CRAP! Oh, well. I'll send colonies in that direction, so that I can get those damned ores and metals... Or maybe I have some small hills in my area with metal. How 'bout it Esp?:)

Unless Espirtio feels the need to impede me... In which case I'll open up a can of woop-ass on anything in my way. Nothing gets in the way of a Celtic man and his metal, dammit!;)

except the Romans, Germans,Spanish, Etruscans, Illyrians, Carthaginians and the odd greek colony that is ;)

Luckily there won't be any Romans, Germans, Spaniards, Etruscans, Illyrians, Carthaginians, and some Greek colonies arbitrarily placed in a random spot to make me angry, will there? ;) (Esp...;))

You would've solved all this if you had just settled in the mountains, like I did. :mischief:

except your in near arctic conditions, and cant grow food :p (looks at temperature map)

Except that my nation has bred a high yielding and very hardy new crop, which spurred them on in the first place. And I intend to get something like potatoes soon enough. :D

I forsee trade relations where my nation trades bread and pasta for "french" fries ;)

The Settlement of Tinraya, and the exploration of the world

FjordsofShive2.jpg

It was brave Athron, commander of the 25 warriors, armed in the finest metals that Avernum could provide who saw the where the new River, now named the Tinraya, fed itself into the River Villia, which in turn, would lead, in time, down to the River Avernos. roundign the top of the great hill, largest in a chain of them, large enough to call small mountians, if a man wanted to embellish the tale, but still, could not compare to the true thing- though that didnt stop all the men from complaing about achieng feet once the reached the top!

The foundselves that summit of the largest hill in the region, guarding the great conjunction of the two rivers, and, more pointedlly, laying amidst huge hill sof rock and mineral- exactley what they had been sent out to find.

The reason for thier little expidition was simple enough- Avernum was expanding, and at a rather good pace at that- the Primarch, Baziron I, had sent out many a soldire looking for new sites for new cities- sites that could not only be well defended, but offered natural bounties of resources to the settlers of the land- and Athron had found such a location.

Little time was sparred, after camping in the area for a week, scouting the country side, and seeing what resources thier were otbe had in the lands, they created several skiffs from local woodlands- the same patchy woodlands as occured in most of Avernum, save the great forests around Almaria. entering the through the the river port of the great walls of the city Avernum, they triumphatlly displayed the fruits of thier labor-copper-.

No time was wasted once the expidition had recanted what they had found, and what the area was like- Baziron, and the council of Avernum knew immediatelly that the conjunction of the two rivers needed no mere fort,no mere garrison supplied by the countryside, and equppied with soldires from Avernum proper but a true city, self suffiecinet, and ablle to maintian its own local force without direct aide from the capital , at least during peace, it needed a city, a location where a large population could resie, to work metals, to build ships and tranports, and use the river Villia to transport goods, people, and materials back forth.

And so it was decided- Avernum woudl continue its policy of founding towns around forts, to that the nation coudl have relitivlly sefl-suffiecnt bastions of armed warriors, centers for commerce, religion, supplies, and all the like- but it would also found a great new city, the "Keep of Tinraya", as it it woudl be called, built upon the cojunction of the rivers Tinraya and Villia.

Tinraya, and indeed, all of the settlements, inclugin the capital city were expanding at great pace- people from Avernite tribes all over, be it the orginzed tribes just across the river Avernos, who somtimes seemed to be boarding on hositility, or the unorginzed Avernite people all throughout the region, not to mention the population boom inside the nation itself- it all lead to a massive amlount of new fortress-city locations- obviouslly, with the most prodigion being Tinraya, and the forts Aminro, and Ovidius, though the port-fortresses were also attracting thier own large share of settlers, eager to capitlize off the export of wood to other areas of Avernum.

second_AV_expansion.png

the nation soon had a floruinshing economy, based off the metal exportation from mineing towns such as Fort Ovidius, Aminor, Duvno and the Keep of Tinraya, to other cities such as the keep fo Tinraya, or the city of Avernum prime, where it was manufacotred into assorted goods, that demanded to much time, and were too trivial for smiths of other towns to bother with making- these works were inturn, exported all over, particuler to metal poor regions, such as Almaria, Softport, and Ikros, whos main materials were wood , or cities like Tilea, Bengaro, Haledon, or Emergence whos main resources were food, and textiles.

Hence the nation of Avernum was flourishing- the onyl trouble was with thier Avernite brethren, either the unorginzed tribes that abounded all around the rivers Avernos,Villia, Tinraya, and Tuernos, and the great Lake, but the orginzed tribed, just west of Avernum- just west of the capital-, and of whoom the settled avernites wanted dearlly to be united with.

Gah, I barely expand despite my army marching! :(.

Is the land between me and Ferusia just empty, unpopulated? Or is it minor tribes that need some conquering? ;).

Also, can you create a map with the names of the civilizations, so I can know who your talking about in the update?

Thanks

Jason

We have plenty of food supplied by the river and are unthreatened so we decline your offer.

OOC:

OK. I think the explored land idea might be good, at least now early on.

Amen: Im not telling you where minerals are, but they are spread all over, simply more concentrated in hills andmountains. Just because it has big orange blob doesnt mean its all hlls just an abundance, same with grassland. copper and tin aren't that rare, especially compared to iron ;-)

Jason: will do a map like that. Also, land in between is unpopulated at the moment. land in a color is populated with farms etc. whereas all settlements are marked with a blob. To 'gain' land, it is necessary to build settlements because farmers will not settle too far from a big town where there is no demand, or to build military outposts. it will grow gradually (very gradually) each turn simply as population expands too.

@Espirito

By the time I need Iron, I'll have them mountains! ;)

I'll post my expansion map in a bit...

@esperito

the sooner you give me an answer to my diplomcat, the sooner i can get in orders 9which is good for everyone! :D)

Story later. Probably in a few minutes, but at the latest after I get home from school today.
