The Helantians had found their land bountiful and good. It was fertile, the land providing them
with the resources helped to be the most populous people in the world, though they did not know
that. Jacob Martellus, however, the group’s leader, found the land not quite to his liking. There
were no trees, any where. They had slightly remedied this by using tall bamboo in one of the
many lakes in their land, which was an excellent substitute for wood. It was still, however, in
short supply. He ordered his people to expand till they found suitable wood, and iron. They had a
little iron, and even some stainless steel from their belt knives they carried with them. They did
not have a supply for more. He was determined to find iron, so they could begin smelting soon.
He already had some people begin building a great stone furnace, crude in construction, but
sufficient for smelting bronze, at least, if not iron.

Also, his people began to build themselves a life. Sirius was built on a rock outcropping, full of
good quarrying stone. It was built at such a point that the surrounding plains and hills were
visible for many miles, even all the way to one of the lakes. Though most buildings were made
out of the strange bamboo, his own house and the City Hall were out of stone, black basalt that
made them look impressive, if crude.

It actually had quite a few people, Sirius did. It was the major urban center. The rest of the land
was devoted to foraging, and mining, and even a little farming. Chief among the new farming
crops was an unusual type of grain that grew no more than a meter high, and that they merely had
to shake to gather the grains off of it. It was also quite delicious. Still, most of the people relied
on hunting and gathering, though this state could not last for long. Game was already growing
scarce. And there was the stench of garbage. No waste disposal system made for a nasty city.
First things first, though. They must create a stable base, one that could farm, smelt its own iron,
and then come back on the track to building a decent society.

hey can I join as sort of a NPC kinda thing were im a rescue team that got in the same predicament

Well, unfortunately, that isn't really possible. A rescue team would take forty-five years to get the Aphrodite. It would take almost a hundred years before people on Earth realized that there was NOTHING coming from the colonies. So, it's not plausable at all. I'd LOVE to accomodate you, really, but it's not something I can do. I offer my sincerest apologies.

Oh got another Idea what if the rescue team was sent directly after they went into stasis because there was something wrong i can elaborate in a story but it could work. To summarize NASA or whatever lost contact with Colonists soon after a rescue team was sent say a day later.

Note: This story still happens during the early days.

Ashbar nervously prodded at a bush with his spear. Check all the vegetation for hostiles, Raynold had said. Huh. Now he had been poking assorted trees and plants for the better part of a day with a crude metal implement strapped to what was a strut from the colony pod.
He poked absentmindedly at the next bush. The spear met resistance and caused a small rupture. What the- it moved! He jumped back as the bush revealed itself to be some many-legged creature which had been sleeping. He stabbed rapidly at it with the crude spear, hoping to kill or atleast chase it off. As it unfolded, he suddenly seized an opportunity for a very good swing, hacking through several compound eyes. The creature squealed loudly, attracting the attention of some others. Backing away, he watched as three more descended upon the wounded and devoured it.
Some of the other scouts came running. Both were shocked at the sight.
"That must be waht's been attacking our men at night! Let's get them while they're occupied!" said one.
All three were busy eating the fourth, and had hitherto only recognized humans as prey rather than a threat, and were so swiftly dispatched. "Let's get them back to camp" said Ashbar. "They look like they might be edible, or else make good trophies."

Space Town was a hive of activity as usual. Several of the six-legged, neoncolored, barbed-hoof horse-likes had been domesticated and were pulling crude ploughs through the rough ground. Some miners had discovered what might be a profitable vein of minerals and had so far reached two feet into the ground, the most useful uncovering being several nuggets of a clay-like substance which dried upon exposure to air.
The greetings were slightly cool, but turned rapidly warmer after the tale of the beasts had been told. That evening the colonists tried to roast some of the arach meat, found it palatable, and decided to ration out the last of the alcohol this night, They had a shelter, ploughs, a good food supply, and had seen a coast... What could they want? Oh, well, a lot of stuff, but most of it was too far in the future.

(will edit in more as {day passes, I get more time, I think up stuff})

Orders for current turn: Expand, raise intelligence.

i sent my story

OOC: Any of the three would've done, actually, and yes, you picked the right one. And will there be aliens in contact age? Or just the boring old humans from Earth?

IC:

Story (from the "Memoirs of an Emperor", by Alexander Kustarnikov):

The land in which I and my crew landed was an island with several important strategical resources, which was very lucky. The only thing alarming was the lack of any miniral resources found yet. So I ordered my geologists, whom I especially organized, to start searching the hills for metals, starting with iron or bronze, or anything resemblant, meaning useful for primitive weaponry - for that was what we had to use in the age where we all needed to survive, to later rebuild.

Some of the scouts, led by Hermann Shorin - a "jack of all trades" of our spaceship - also reported a jungle to the north, which, according to the probe data I memorized, was a rarity here. I knew I had to send Hermann there again, to try and search for local resources. If it is rubber or any other strategically-useful resource - great. If just some luxuries - not too bad anyway. Since all other survivors would certainly not unite, I thought - and ofcourse they didn't, as you all now know - international luxury trade would be useful to influent some.

And finally, I ordered the creation of then-new Islander Militia. Unlike what they call militia in other countries, both here and on Earth, these were our most unique unit of the time - police/defense units, and top secret police. The name was a camouflage. These were armed with whatever weapons we could produce then, which was not much by Earth or modern standards, but they were good with what they had.

Orders:

- Create new Land UU - Islander Militia (police/defense unit)
- Increase Land UU
- Send our geologists to try and find mineral resources in the hills.
- Send 25 men to explore the jungle and try to find whatever resources are there.
- Expand with 25 men along the coast to the west.
- Expand with 50 men farther along the river.
- Have our 5 rafts split into two groups and explore our coasts. Try to determine whether we can reach any other land with these rafts without TOO MUCH risk any time soon.

It has been four days since we lost contact with four different colonist ships bound for the planet Aphrodite. Eagle Squadron consisting of myself Captain Zyke and 1st Leftenate Sol and a number of other soldiers of the Mars City of Haven have been mobilized to intercept the four colonist ships bound for Aphrodite. Our stasis pods were set to wake us at the point were we lost contact with the colonists.

You can't really increase much of anything, since you've essentially got to use your military to expand before the economy gets out of Nonexistant. Of course, if you don't produce any orders, I'll assume the orders are to expand in a random direction using all military units.

Also, economy increases by itself through expanding, trading, conquering, etc. You can't increase it yourself.

Expand in the direction of the rivers

Individual Nation News:

The human settlements were shocked from whatever they were doing at the time when the feeling of a disturbance coursed through their bodies. It was halfway through the sixth year of their life on the planet, and for the people of The Greylord’s Land (they among the few people who viewed what caused the disturbance) saw what seemed to be a meteor distantly fell to the horizon and disappear. Whatever it was, it didn’t affect their still-small sphere of influence and they had their own problems. They’d find out one day.

What they didn’t know was that it was a rescue party sent from Earth, who encountered the mysterious disturbance that had destroyed their ships and stranded them on the planet – and now the rescuers were stranded as well. They, too, lacked good resources and thus had to start from scratch. They had a small advantage, however – their escape pod was armed with a small laser. This gave them a useful device for drilling so long as the battery for it held out. And their landing location was quite good for it, as well. In between two long rivers, on top of a hill. To the south, red sand dunes could be viewed – the great ruby deserts of Aphrodite. A vast expanse of pink-leafed forests could be seen to the northwest and direct west. To the east and northeast, grassland stretched before them. Also, it appeared they were near a low floodplain, which would be good for farming. They founded their capital, called New Haven, and named their new nation after the name of their team – Haven Rescue Force.

The First Island Nation was growing prosperously on its island. Expansion up the river and to across the coast to the west proved very fruitful. However, when soldiers were sent to the northern jungle to scout out resources, a group of very, very primitive humans assaulted them. They appeared to be colonists who had gone completely insane after the crash, and defended the jungle with incredible ferocity. They were armed only with sticks, stones, and crude stone axes, but the weapons the soldiers held weren’t much better. They were driven out, though thankfully there were no casualties. There weren’t many people controlling the jungle, but they controlled it entirely. The search for mineral resources went a lot better, a great vein of above-ground copper being found in the hills, and there was certain to be much more underground when mining operations were possible. Also, a new unique military force was created – the Islander Militia. Despite their name, these units were police and defense units, armed with the best weaponry that could be provided. Finally, the rowboat expedition proved fruitful enough, finding that the coast of an apparently-large landmass was close to their island.

The land of Helantia was growing steadily, though no great source of wood had been found. They had discovered a great growth of the bamboo-like material in a swampy area on the east side of their northeastern lake. In the meantime, expansion towards the north and the great mountains that lied in that direction continued. Growth stopped to the east and south, however, when groups of crazy humans attacked them. They lived like animals and fought with like them, too. Apparently, their minds had been affected by the disturbance and had been driven insane – something that happened to a number of human colonists. Whatever the case, they were a threat. A minor threat, but a threat at that. Meanwhile, construction on a great smelter was started...but it would take many, many years to complete. The world's first Great Project had begun.

As for The Greylord’s Land, they had managed to reach the body of water they had spied from afar. It was fresh water, most definitely, and a species of bush that grew around it contained tasty, edible berries that MIGHT be domesticatable. They then had the pleasure of meeting another group of humans who had formed a nation called the “Star Legionaries”. This nation appeared to have no intention of uniting with The Greylord’s Land, but did seem to hold the opinion that they could exist and thrive as separate political entities in a new world.

World News and Events:

Around the world, ALL nations were discovering a neon-colored, horse-sized insect creature with barbed feet. It seemed to be a herbivorous creature that lived on all masses of land except the southwestern archipelago (and it lived on the largest of the landmasses in that area) and was quite gentle in and of itself. If approached in a non-threatening way, one could easily touch it and move it along in one direction. The inevitable pack animal (pack insect?) had been discovered – it was only a matter of time before it was fully domesticated and used in warfare for the new cavalry.

NPC Diplomacy:

To: The Greylord’s Land
From: The Star Legionaries

Greetings! It fills us with great hope to discover that we were not the only humans to survive. As it is, we feel that this will be a new era and that political divisions will continue. However, we still believe that helping one another survive is most important at the moment. We look forward to a good future living side by side.
