stgnNESI: Colonization 2150

yes thats fine

EDIT:
answered on AIM

Orders:
Expand south (since we're in the north) with 100 men
Send 12 men to continue around the lake and meet the other colony party
The other 38 go scouting east
Bring along some roast Arach meat (The spider things) for the scout parties
Increase army
Begin Great Project: Clay Lamps (Find a way to implant the glowstone in clay holders thin enough to allow light to shine through, this is necessary since glowstone tends to become rather brittle and even crumble at a touch when brought outside the cave air.) Effects: +1economy, +2culture, faster scouting/expansion due to night lights)

I'm assuming that it's possible to visit to the nearby nation and back within the time of an update? It looks to be about 250 miles there, whch is a month with a fast horse.
{Like several of my stories, this will be under editing}
"Bring along some of those new bowls and some glowstone," said Raynold. "We'll prove to those other colonists that we're doing well enough for hospitality." Twelve men grabbed crude string bags made of plant fibre, mounted their neon-colored horselikes (several people were beginning to refer to them colloquially as "Neons") and started to ride after him.
The trip along the lakeside was fairly peaceful. The local Arachs had learned to avoid humans, and the plant life was varied and new, even after several years here.
"I feel good about this. Even if the odds were overwhelming for there to be other colonists, it feels good to know some of them. That we've met." commented Jake.
"We haven't officially met them yet." said Raynold pessimistically.
"Oh, don't be such a spoilsport! We've got a month's riding ahead of us, let's make it a good trip."
After eight days riding along the lake, they turned a left, heading south-west. The trip was starting to be fairly boring, but still enjoyable. SOon they started to see several of the huge bat-like creatures. Some of them blinked. Most of them stared intently at the riders. A few flew away.
"I get the creeps when they look at me like that" said a voice from the end of the group.

The meeting proved a success. Although the glowstone was brittle, it was heartily welcomed as a possible light source. The bowls, too, were fine, since there was little clay there. In return, Raynold and the men were given some handmade rope.
<snip to end of story>
Raynold and the men returned back a month later. In the meantime, glowstone extraction had nearly paused since it crumbled outside the cave, as Raynold and the men had noticed. They had a very big party and were very happy about the rope, the tried to figure out how to get glowstone out of the caves withoutit cracking to dust.

OOC: I'd like to know the following too: (parenthesis for what I've concluded)
Planet gravity (must be within 0.75 to 1.5G for humans, though)
Atmosphere (7 is Earth default)
Element base for lifeforms (Carbon for Terrans, but it seems that atleast the Arachs are too, since they're so edible)
Day length and direction of sun (rise and set)
Sun intensity and normal temperature
What is the sea made of? I can't really believe it would be plain old H20+NaCi.

since i am dead on Kamilians nes, ill join this one

heres my peoples wereabouts:

As the other nations on earth sent their ships to outer space, the now rebuilt soviet empire could not allow himself be let behind, they also built spaceships, for not only had they been the first to send something to space a century and a half ago, for they had remained highly sophisticated in rocket technology.

Sadly, due to slow economic evelopment, the Neo USSR, built their rocket ships a bit slower than the rest, launching off some years later..

hows taht?

OOC:

Pea-brained, Half-witted, Stupid, Ignorant, Below Par, Average, Above Par, Smart, Intellectual, Wise, Very Wise, and Enlightened

can u change intellegence levels, to education levels?, like average, avobe average, low, high, etc.

all human beings have the same level of intellect, you cant really increase or decrease it, no matter what a nation do, can increase how smart people are, only how much knowledge they hold.

OOC: I don't get it. Do we, in the southwest, have these "horses"? I suppose we do, since you said ALL nations, but still. And sorry if the dates in the diary seem unrealistic, we can just say that some alcohol drinks survived from the fall.

IC:

Story (from "The Aphroditian Diary"):

Chapter Three - The First War

Day 1 - The word is, Hermann's expedition to the north in the jungle was attacked by some other humans. I guess we are not alone. As for other gossip, geologists found copper in the hills, and some more of these strange insects - the wierd colored six-legged things that seemed to travel in packs. John is intent on naming them "horseants". Whatever.

[...]

Day 6 - Hermann's expedition finally returned. Hermann and two other men are wounded, but not too heavily. The rumors are half-true, as usual - yes, there are humans, but they seem to be insane. Kinda like the barbarians. John scared me half to death today in the evening - he suddenly brought in a horseant into the camp, and the first one to bump into that thing was me. And ofcourse got congratulated by the General, who also gave him a new copper medal. John later said to me that they probably can replace horses. Fine, I replied, but I will never join the cavalry then.

Day 7 - News just don't seem to end! The rowboats returned today, and Roman told us that there is another island to the west! Could be big... And what's even more important, for me at least, is that me and my, meaning Andrei's, squad as well as some others, will get new orders tomorrow from the General. Looks like we're gonna see some action in the jungle - with our "brand-new high-tech" copper spears. But the fall-crazies as they are called only have sticks and stones.

Day 8 - Yep, we've got marching orders! With copper spears! Fifty soldiers. Along the way we'll probably see the new town - Shahtoholmsk. Sounds like a school trip, only here the final destination will be a battle in the jungle. Our first war...

[...]

Day 23 - Shahtoholmsk - Mining Hill - is placed, obviously, on a hill. A few wooden buildings, a few stone ones, most live in tents. There are no real mines yet ofcourse, but the geologists are enthusiastic. Also, here the "miners" gather copper. Not bad, looks like we won't be in stone age forever - I might even live to see real sailships one day. Sweet dreams...

[...]

Day 99 - We're at the jungle at last. Ofcourse, there probably are mosquitos there, but there is more trouble then that. We set up camp just outside of it. Perfect place to be assaulted by the barbarians...

Day 100 - Obviously, we were attacked by the barbarians, the terrorists, the fallcrazies, the whatever. At least they were well-mannered (or stupid) enough to attack us just after we woke up. Obviously, we fought them off, it was very ugly, unlike when I was a soldier back on Earth. One thing is when you shoot enemies off from the distance, knowing they could do the same to you, different is to kill some helpless madmen just in front of you, to see his blood on your spear... It is disgusting. But we should do our duty. We march out... now.

OOC: This story will be continued after the next update, just to make sure that my prediction of the outcome is correct.

IC:

Orders:

- Have 50 men attack the terrorists in the jungle. Have no mercy, their minds are lost, just slaughter them like the animals they are now.
- Build Shahtoholmsk at the biggest copper source.
- Start making copper spears.
- 25 men to expand west along the coast, 25 men to expand north along the coast, 25 men to expand along the river.
- 25 men to load on the rowboats if possible, and sail to the landmass we've found to try and establish a colony there.
- Militias are to guard Bereg Nadezhdi - just in case.

@ stalin006: I just tried to make something that didn't appear exactly like "education", but I see your point. I'll consider it -- if I decide to change it, I'll do so next update. The levels will be left alone [just for a change of pace from "low, high, medium" and such], if I do so.

@ das: Yes, your island and the island to your west does. The island to your southeast has many of them, as well. However, the rest of the archipelago you're near has none of them.

Answers to your questions, Erik:

Planet gravity Slightly different from Earth's. .96 times Earth's gravity, to be precise

Atmosphere (7 is Earth default) Eh...the atmosphere is pretty much similar to Earth's. Maybe a tiny difference or two, but nothing worth noting.

Element base for lifeforms Carbon. There's a second planet in the system which has abundant life, but that life was never detected...because the Earth scientists never checked for silicon lifeforms.

Day length and direction of sun (rise and set) The day is about 20.0012 Earth hours long. Its sunrise and sunset are opposite of what they are on Earth.

Sun intensity and normal temperature The climate is slightly, slightly cooler than Earth's [accounting for the small jungles]. The sun intensity is less than on Earth [it's a hot blue star], but not by too much...enough to tell a difference, though.

What is the sea made of? Plain old water. Nope, nothing overly special about it to note, sorry.

Oh yes, and update tomorrow afternoon.

Ah, plantlife? Plants are there, and quite abundant. Anyway, there are different kinds of pigments in some of these plants -- resulting in pink-colored leaves and stems. The difference? Well, that's one that people will most definitely be debating for ages. Hehe. Oh yeah, and on a remote island somewhere on Aphrodite, there's a species of plant similar to a more advanced form of the Venus Flytrap. It's pigment is green, as per our norm, but...well, that's a secret for later. ^^

Silicon lifeforms? So that's that "First Contact" thing...

Actually, that's the Colonization eras...but it DOES involve aliens. Intelligent ones, too. Contact Era is the reestablishment of contact with Earth...Post Contact Era is the establishment of contact with alien civilizations of equal or greater technological level of humans. Sorry if the eras confused you.

reestablishment of contact with Earth would be "Second Contact" with Earth, wouldn't it?
