stJNES10 – Expand and Conquer
5th Update, Turn 5
15000bce

Events

The Morskoy Gorod, failing to take much attention under the reign of the last king, is finally unleashed to the public from secrecy. The huge fort is a monument to the defense of the city of Novgorod, and serves as the heart of the Novgorodian military. +1,000 spearmen, + economy

A good harvest in Brisbane has resulted in a record population boom, with villages along the coast sprouting up both north and south of Brisbane. (+economy).

The Javanese maritime empire expands to new heights, landing small colonization parties on both the new eastern island found named Guinea, and the southern landmass known as Australis. So far, both islands offer nothing of significance – one is jungle, the other is desert. Though Australis has been able to introduce two new diets to the Javanese: kangaroo and emus. However, expansion is not talked about much – much of the resources needed to live come from the islands in the north, and a strong port would have to be established before much else could happen.

Having nothing but space to waste, the Dacians take to a torched earth policy; that is, the army retreats and burns everything in its wake. As a result, more supplies are being brought in from Tripolye to supply their army, and thus the slower the army and the more vulnerable. Taking advantage of this, the Dacians attack the supply lines in small parties, again slowing them down and weakening them. The main army has yet to show itself again to the Tripolyeans, and already many Tripolyeans are loosing moral due to the slowness of the advance. -100 Tripolyean spearmen, due to guerilla ambushes

The Meadhall in Normandy is finished, bringing many more warriors to join their army (+1,500 spearmen). The large hall is a part of the sprawling town what is Dijon, a center of culture amidst the rest of Western Europe.

The Academy of Berserks, more like a small camp established south of Oslo, is home to the first Berserker, who is basically a man with a spear who values death more then himself. (+1,500 Spearmen). As the Vikings march north, they soon realize that it gets much colder and much more mountainous. Being the primitive Bronze Age people they are, they are forced to stop early from their Viking campaigns. However, colonies on the Baltic coast are successful, as indigenous people there are subjugated to Viking brutality.

The Sinhalese expand their empire to the area that is known as the Bangladesh…only to find that the environment does not support much agriculture or urban life. Meanwhile, trade continues with the Calicut, as both nations become closer and closer to one another.

The Novgorodians and the Vikings make contact in a battle over the island Gotland. In the end, the Novgorodians won the struggle, but little harm is done to the relations. A small Viking merchant fleet even makes its way to Novgorod and empties its load.

After their humiliating defeat nearly a century ago, the British return to Ireland with an invasion force. On the way they subjugated the Isle of Man. Anyhow, the invasion goes off without a hitch, the Irish are no match for the superiority of the bronze weapons that the British posses. Meanwhile, expeditions to gain the north Picts under the kingdom have failed, as the barbarians remain divided and unique in on themselves. Trading near the Elbe has fostered economic growth, and has helped improve relations with the indigenous people there (+economy).

The Japanese soon turn their attention north, with the invasion of Hokkaido underway. Immediately they are encountered with harsh weather and a much larger population density then that of the southern campaign, but still the invasion continues. In the south, 10 galleys are sent south into the open ocean looking for the fabled Okinawa, and end up never returning again. -10 galleys, -200 spearmen, -100 archers.

The Clan of Destruction continues to expand, subjugating and sometimes annihilating entire villages in their path. However, those who live under their rules are soon becoming fed up with the way they are treated, and many uprisings have slowed down expansion.

With help from the Illyrians, the Mycenaeans organize themselves into an actual nation, conquering all those who did not unite into the mighty nation of Mycenae. Meanwhile, the Etruscans join ranks with the Illyrians, as a promise is made for the invasion of Sicilian South Italia. But before, the Illyrians construct Rome, a small settlement on the western coast of Italia, where nearly all of the remaining Etruscans flock to live. The city thus grows harmoniously, and serves as a hub for the great supply route the Illyrians utilize with their next move.

And that is a large invasion, containing Etruscans and Illyrians alike, into Sicilian Italia. While the Sicilians did know this was coming, they had neglected to fully establish a defense force, and for this, they were fully pushed out of Italia, with little losses. A great victory for Illyria indeed. Meanwhile, many Sicilians boarded their great fleet and headed north, in a planning invasion at the head of Italia. But alas, they meet a fleet of pirates, who stall, and then head on fight the Sicilians. A few days later, another fleet arrives from the west to join the fight, though they fly the flags of Liguria! The combined fleet utilized Ligurian sea tactics and their numbers to finally send the Sicilian fleet sagging home. Also, without audequete sea protection from the east, Mycenean and Illyrian fleets ravage the once-noble coastline of Sicily.

Losses -
Sicily: 35 Galleys, 200 Spearmen, 250 Archers
Illyria: 150 Spearmen, 50 Archers
Liguria: 25 Galleys

NPC Notices

Notes from the Mod

Amirsan, if you want a moral stat, place it in each of the stats. That’s what I thought ;).

Sheep: I have not introduced UU’s yet.

Updates are going to be every other day….though do not expect one on Weekends, always be prepared if I have time, I will not have sympathy for procrastinators :).

For those who did not do orders, I took little sympathy for you. Everyone cries for faster updates, and so I finally am doing them, and so I expect you to send orders. Two days was long enough to send some kind of orders. I left your nation as it was, but I did not expand any NPC or barbarians by you, and halted your wars if you were in one. Next time I will not be generous.

i sent a PM with some problems in the update jason.

If I send diplo to the aboriginies are they gonna reply? Or just kill my messenger?

JASON
What about an answer from Bactria? You updated and didn't sent me their anwer...

Javanese Orders

Spend an economy on Spearmen
Spend an ecnomy on establishing a major trading post in Australis.

Have 1/4 of the navy establish a colony in the Perth area of Australia. (south-west is fertile)
Exoabd the colony in Northern Territory Australia
Destroy the Malay presence in Suleweisi and the islands to the north using 1/2 the army and 3/4 of the navy to do so. Now I remind you these are barbarians and thus would not have a seizable navy
All male Malay are to be killed. The women are to be sold into slavery. Pregnant Malay are to have their children stolen and indoctrinated into Javanese culture.

The Emperor fumed. 'these Malay they do not answer me and the envoy I sent to them has been lost. I refuse to not attack anymmore. We shall destroy these Malay as they are obvioulsy inferior'

Hmm, they quit when I do slow updates. They quit when i do quick updates. What are you guys, a bunch of goldilocks?

Quit then, just makes updates a lot easier to do. And do not come back, I don't want to do all the work that I did for your nation over again and have you quit again. I'm really sick of this. Really think before you join an NES next time. Especially my NES.

Jason

"Как ныне сбирается князь Бакослав
Отмщать неразумным готарам:
Ударил готара он и, не попав,
Пошёл на них лесным пожаром."
- Excerpts from a ballade, "Slovo of Gottiyskom Pokhode" or "Word of the Gothic Campaign". Other versions:

"Kak n'ine sberaetsja knyaz Bakoslav
Otmsh'jat' nerazumnim gottaram:
Udaril gottara on y, nepopav,
Poshyol na nikh lesnim pozharom"

[English version doesn't rhyme, naturally]
"As today knyaz Bakoslav gathers
To bring revenge to the foolish Goths:
He struck the Goth, and, having missed,
Went at them like a forest fire."

---

"The Goths did not come to the battle field. Instead, they cowardly fled and avoided combat, while bands of thieves attacked the supply lines. Much enraged was Bakoslav; much enraged were his warriors. The campaign was moving slowly, the Both Gods were barely content with the insufficient sacrifices made by Bakoslav, and some suggested abandoning it all and returning back into Tripolye - after all, what did the Goths have that they did not have? - they said. But Bakoslav disdained such cowardice. Yes, he admitted, there some shortcomings. But the Tripoleans are not Goths, he said. Tripoleans do not flee."
- Excerpts from the Slovo o Bakoslave.

---

"But Bakoslav was not deterred by these shortcomings. He has not yet lost the battle, nor the war - or so he said. Instead, he decided to introduce some new military measures, such as... [insert part of the orders, converted to fit required format]"
- Excerpts from a later day history book.

Diplo:

From: Tripolye
To: Dacia/Gothland

Cowards! Face me, Knyaz Bakoslav, in a fair battle, or your lands will burn and your names will be remembered as the names of cowards!

---

Orders:
- Continue to encourage agriculture. Come on, I am sure we still have lands to develop.
- Continue our call for volunteers - promise loot. Lots of loot. That and fame, and glory, and exciting battles soon to come - promise them that the Knyaz won't let the offensive to bog down any more.
- Encourage (simply encourage, no money to waste here) trade with Moskovia.
- Get more horsemen (100? 200? You didn't put the Iron Age unit growths up...).
- Pull back out of Dacian territory and re-invade them along Danube instead. There, we still have the Carpathians - theoretically it will slow down our advance, but on the other hand wil leave the supply routes easier to protect (less space for an ambush). 100 horsemen will "convoy" the supply routes and fight off any bandits (promise them more land in exchange for them carrying out such a less glorious task). The rest (still led by Bakoslav) will advance along a single route through the Carpathians, into more favorable terrain and towards the Dacian capital. Advance quickly - if our supply route is cut off, or if we are moving too slowly due to the supply carts, then live off the land, pillaging villages as we go. Be ruthless with them. If we encounter the Gothic army, attack it with our chariots head-on, cavalry on the flanks and infantry to crush the enemy after they are disorganized by those attacks. However, parts of our cavalry (a fourth or so) should be ready to intercept and slow down possible enemy flanking moves until we're ready to fight them back. Upon reaching a settlement... attack it. Just like that. Plunder it, if we could. If the enemy resists us well enough, then destroy the settlement by surrounding it and firing at it with incendiary arrows. The same goes for their capital, though we should REALLY try to plunder that one. Remember to make wooden rams if they somehow put up a wall around the city. Anyhow, never surrender, never retreat, if the things go really dire then throw everything we've got on the enemy center to break through there or die fighting.

WHAT?! People are complaining about the updates being TOO FAST?! IMHO they all should join NK's NES in that case...

*I* didn't cry for faster updates, I'm good with once a week. I shall attempt to have orders ready by tonight, but I cannot guarantee...

Jason, my culture didn't go up by 2 from the wonder (it should be at 3 right now). BTW, where's all the Chinese?
---
Normandy Orders

* continue expanding East and Northeast so I can get to those 2 other rivers in W. Europe.
* also expand south along the Rhine River
