stJNES10 – Expand and Conquer
6th Update, Turn 6

Events

The British continue their pursuit into Ireland, taking little risks and a slow pace. This has allowed much of the Irish to counterattack and strategize; dealing harsh blows to the British army. Meanwhile, the exploration galleys establish contact with the Normans, Vikings, and Gaul. -200 Spearmen

As a major port is established in Australis, the Javanese are able to expand the colony and prevent it from collapsing. Meanwhile, further expeditions find fertile land in the south, but a sizable native population. After establishing some sort of colony, trade begins, and the Javanese are introduced to a new Australis delicacy: wine. Also, in the home islands themselves, fighting breaks out between the newly formed state of Malaysia and Java, as the Javanese attempt to conquer Suleweisi. While Javanese armies fare well in Sulewiesi, armies in Borneo meet fierce opposition, and a counterattack brings a Malaysian invasion of Javanese Borneo. Luckily for the Javanese, the Malay are attacked from the north as well by an unknown host.

Malaysia: -200 Spearmen, -200 archers
Java: -200 Spearmen, -200 archers

The Vikings make advances in the north, albeit slow and stressful, and only along the coasts. Meanwhile, Danish holdings are expanded south, as are the other Baltic colonies, which are doing very well in terms of defense, economy, and population.

The Tripoleans, under the military genius of General Bakoslav, pull out from the wasted badlands in northern Dacia, and head along the Danube, securing a protected and fast supply route along the river. However, unknown to the Tripoleans, the Dacians had a different plan. Keeping some of their army to slow down and distract the Tripoleans, the Dacians instead build a port city in the south, where a fleet is made. With this fleet, the Dacians sail northward and pillage the thriving coastal Tripolean city, as it was defenseless, the small Tripolean navy was out on a training mission. Such a blow to the second largest city in Tripolye has crippled the Tripolean economy, and greatly demoralized the troops, while helping the moral of the Dacians. Later, in one of the villages captured by the Tripolean army, documents were found that was not written in any language Bakoslav had ever known. However, one of his men did recognize the letters. “Illyrian,” he said. Upon further translation, the document was indeed a military strategy, depicting the razing of the Tripolean city, and the creation of a Dacian fleet.

Dacian: -350 Spearmen, -300 Swordsmen, -200 Archers
Tripolean: -100 Spearmen, -100 Archers, -50 Horsemen, -2 economies

The Japanese continue their struggle for Hokkaido, fighting the Ainu every bit of the way. However, despite tragic losses, the Japanese do well, and nearly conquer the island. The remaining warlord asks for peace, and offers anything that the emperor of Japan wishes, just so long as his people remain independent. -200 Spearmen

The Brisbanites show their extraordinary ability for military combat as their first battles are fought against the Aborigines. Everyone knew it was coming, but nobody knew when. The Aborigines were fought back, and much fertile land is taken for the Brisbanites, at little to no cost.

Upon exploration westwards, the people of Calicut discover a small, uninhabited and unfertile island they quickly name Socotra. However, this island may be all but useless economy-wise, but it is a great port of destination for explorers to the west, and is quickly becoming a jewel of the Calicut Empire.

The Gauls soon fall to a plague of black men who have stormed their land from the south. These “invaders” bring to the land many fires and murders, disrupting the growing Gaulic economy, and putting the army at full alert. However, upon questioning on of the men, the Gauls soon realize that it was the Sphardians in the south who sent the raiders to them, and an army is positioned just near the border as the Gauls await a response from the accused.

The Sicilian wars continue, as the allies (Illyrians, Ligurians, and Mycenaeans) pounce upon the weakening island people. The Illyrians continue their defensive campaign, as forts are sprung up in southern Italy, most famous is the Fortress of Thurii, which serves as a grave reminder the uselessness of a Sicilian attack on Italian shores. Meanwhile, a Sicilian expedition to Sardinia to reinforce the island is blocked, as Mycenaean and Illyrian galleys circle the island. The Sicilian ships are trapped in harbor, where they begin to rust. Meanwhile, the Ligurians enjoy a quick success in Sardinia, with almost no losses. Most of the losses came to the Illyrians, whose raiding parties met resistance in Sicily. All in all, though, this round of fighting held little victories for either parties.

Sicily: -200 Spearmen, -5 Galleys
Liguria: -150 Spearmen
Illyria: -250 spearmen, -2 Galleys
Mycenae: -2 Galleys

Meanwhile, from Gothic emissaries, the Illyrians jump into the Iron Age. At the same time, on an island in the Indian Ocean, Sinhalese merchants also smelt iron. And in one more instance, along the rolling plains and melting deserts, the Satari smelt iron for the first time.

Why have you sent this plague of raiders to our fields?! We demand an answer!

Notes from the Mod

Sorry for the lateness and the sloppyness of the update. Little time this week.

I do plan to update tomorrow, so get your stinking orders in :).

I quit. Too little interest in NESing at the moment.

OOC: my economy is still at stable, and wasn't increased as i ordered with my little reason on how to do it.

Jason, can you NPC Brisbane for the next few days, I'm busy with exams and studying and **** like that. Cheers.

As Satari continue to expand into every direction more and more none-satari become part of Satari population. Actualy since the day Samarkand was formed by the Satari the city was flooded with people outside of the city. This days pure Satari were less than 2% of the population. This change was not only among the people but in the Palace itself changes of race happand. The day when no son was born to the King and Queen of Satari to marry with their doughter and rule after them was the end of a pure Kingdom. They had to amrry their doughter to a none-satari chiefe of one of the strongest Turkic tribes in the outskirts of the Kingdom. While the King and Queen were sad this brought new blood and new rules into the country. No longer was the royal family only Queen, King, Prince and Princes. Now it had a huge growing familiy in the south east of the country and later on the royal family united with a western Turkic tribe as well. The country was no longer under Satari rule, only 25% of the blood in the King and Queen were pure Satari... This have brought several changes when Prince Aduji became the King...

The first change King Aduji made was a change of the country itself. No longer it was called Satari. Going more by his Turkic roots rather than his Satari ones Aduji changed the Kingdom name into The Kingdom of Turkistar. Also many rules writen by the first kings were changed by the Turkic culture. No Satari stood in the way of King Aduji changes, there was no Satari almost... In less than 5 years the religion of Satari itself was almost utterly rooted out and only some pure Satari families in Samarkand still worshiped the Queen and King. The Queen, Madria, did not stayed behind the King and went into the eastern parts of the Kingdom to learn about the Chins culture. This culture amazed her and soon she changed her own religion... but this change was not good in the eyes of King Aduji. He ordered the Queen to be locked in the Palace and closed the borders with the Chins people. This changes ended when he and she died. His son Raftisi openned the borders with the Chins again and took several hgue expansion campaigns itno their lands. While he wasn't impressed by the Chini culture as his mother was he indeed was impressed with the mountain people, The Tibtians. He knew nothing about them but openned his border with them in hopes that their culture could come to him if the mountains won't allow him to go to them... And than he looked west...

Bactria. A great land. Ones they were traders and close allies of the kingdom but after the accuired new knowledge and riches from the Kingdom they closed their reletions and begun building up an army. King Raftisi was worried. Will they invade his kingdom? Will they become allies ones again? Are they a threat that must be dealth with...? None knew since borders were almost closed... Now the Kingdom begun to talk with Nepal in order to find new allies...

to Nepal:
From The Kingdom of Turkistar.
Hello people of the south! You live in the mountains I wish to see and learn so much. You are so close to a culture I wish to be part of. Will you let me, an old King of a great Kingdom, move throught your lands for one last campaign into the Tibtian mountains? This is my life dream will you allow me to fullfill it?
Other than that please discuss with my son about trade and alliance which both our kingdoms need against the growing threat of Bactria...

Javanese Diplomacy to NPC

To our northern friends (Siamese would be a good name to them)
From Java

We fight the same enemy. The people of Malaysia stand in the way to both our greatness. We propose that we form an alliance to work together against these evil people! I propose that Java gains Sumatra, Sulweisi and the islands. The island of Kalamantan will be divided. (look map below) I ask you to consider this. Together we can become prosperous empires!

To the natives around the Perth region of Australia
From Java

Greetings friends. We urge you to consider a proposal from the Emperor of Java. In light of you years of trade and friendly co-existence with our settlers we ask you do you wish to learn our secrets. We give you this proposal. For two economic levels, we will teach you the secrets of bronze working, coherent government and architecture to name a few. Futhermore our colony in that region would not be expanded and within time be negotiated on to be returned to your nation. (ooc: An Empire of Perth who is a faithful ally I am trying to make here)

Javanese Orders

Grow the army once (can we get sword and shield men? if not spearmen please)
Grow the navy once

Use the naval superiority of the Javanese Empire to destroy the Malaysian fleet. By gaining control of the seas, we will be able to cut off the Malaysian Army in Sulweisi off from resupply, and also the smaller islands of Malaysia. Use 200 Spearmen in this.

Have 100 Archers and militamen defend the border in Sumatra

The rest of the army and at least 20 galleys are to make a assault on the western flank of the Malaysian force. (orange arrow) This might mean that we lose some more ground in the east however milita men are to use a scorched earth policy there with gureilla tactics to slow them down. This attack will make the Malaysian armies have to shift and should meet little resitance however the soldiers are being made to believe otherwise ;)

The red arrows on the map are Expansion plans

Let me know if the Perth people agree with my proposal. If they do take the two economy and begin helping them form a civilised society.

NOVGOROD ORDERS
Expand North East with the same strategy as before, but if it goes too slowly then use the army, try to reach the North Sea as soon as possible
Begin construction of a second major trading center in Riga (wonder) A major city with a good port that will make expantion and trade a lot easier as well as defence.
Begin trading with Moskva through the Volga river all the way down to the Black Sea and back up to help our economy

Jason, minor complaint. If I had a rich and thriving city appear this turn (and subsequently) get razed, should I not have gotten (and then lost) an economy level (or two, if I lost two economy levels from losing that city)?

Great update otherwise! :)

OOC: Btw, I hate to complain, but how exactly would Dacians and Xen know about the existance of that city, especially as I do not seem to recall it all too clearly? Ah well.

IC:

Story:

The city was burning. Dacian horn-helmeted raiders celebrated in the ruins of Odessa.

---

Bakoslav was looking at the Dacian capital when the Black Messanger came.

Bakoslav nodded briefly.

"The Goths razed Odessa. They came from the sea."

Bakoslav accepted this, nodding again, and turned away. He needed to think. As the messanger was dragged to the stake, he was thinking.

Perhaps there was no chance to win. The casualties were high, and the scouts said that the Dacians were much more numerous. Perhaps now was a time to retreat with honor, to avenge Odessa at its site rather then away from it. There was no way of getting reinforcements. The chances of winning were very low.

No. No, he thought to himself. We knew the odds all along.

Turning back now would be cowardice.

The Gods agreed; the smoke pointed west. To death and glory.

Orders:
Increase economy by building new cities and trading places along the coast and in the colonies.
Send a small exploring party west (towards Scotland)(10 Galleys, 50 Archers, 50 Spearmen) and try to build a new colony there.
Expand colony in the baltic states and secure baltic islands. (250 Spearmen, 250 Archers, 40 Galleys)
Contiue pressing Northwards (rest of army), offer all Viking leaders to join peacefully, or beat them on the battlefield.

OOC:
I found the first problem with per day updates. NPC diplomacy can NEVER be answered befor update and so I cannot send orders (Like open trade with Nepal) until I know if they want to trade, which I can't before the update cause i'll be in deep sleep when JJ check the thread and updates.. or answers wait a bit (while i'm a sleep) and update. And I know how much MOD's hate IF orders... If you want me to send orders without diplo than you gonna get a LOT of if's.

as far me knowing about you, I made a treaty with the Dacians (same as the austrians) insuring mutual safty and what not, for the dacians, as long as I didnt ally with you, and the promptlly invaded, obligateign me to give some sort of help.

as for knowign about the city, its hardley a secret- big cities, 'specially port cities- engage in trade, and thierfore th elocation of any large town that can serve as a port will be well known.

To remaining Warlords of the Hokkaido-Ainu:
From His Imperial Majesty the Emperor Jimmu Tenno of the Empire of Japan:
You are defeated. The mighty military forces of the Empire of Japan are poised to bring a permanent end to your freedom as a nation. However, His Most Benevolent and Gracious Imperial Majesty has chosen to grant peace and honor to the Hokkaido-Ainu if they accept Him as their Lord and Protector. The tribes of Hokkaido shall be granted semi-autonomy as vassal states of the Empire. Each tribe shall be governed by its warlord, who shall hereby take the title of Daimyo and be a vassal suzerain to the Emperor. The Daimyo shall make civil law for his feudal territory, and shall have authority to enforce criminal justice amongst his people. The states of Hokkaido shall acknowledge the divinity of the Emperor, and pay Him tribute to the order of 1 economy level this year, and sufficiently smaller annual tribute on the order of that paid by municipalities and fiefdoms in the Empire. In this way, the honor and dignity of the Hokkaido-Ainu shall be preserved, and their lands and homes protected by the might of the Empire of Japan. His Imperial Majesty prays the warlords of Hokkaido will not be so foolish as to refuse his most gracious and benevolent offer.

I was thinking of coming back to play this. Any good country suggestions? Or can I create my own?

im not in it, but nicea looks nice (pun intended baby!), carthage has some potential, and egypt also looks good. Not to mention, China is totally empty

OOC: jason, i'll send orders at around 7 PM our time, and u still didn't fix the economy yet.
