OCC: Jason, could you explain the infastrucure stat is to me? In detail? Casue I'm

while I'm no jason, my expereince ha sbene that is what leads to a person gainign per turn economy, and other assorted bonuses, such as more effective troops, equipment, and trade (and so, at least in my mind, would be linked to a nation having a golden age)

Social Order of the Palenque:

The King -

Leader of the Palenque, the King rules with the most power. He is considered to be related to the gods, and he is seen as the gods voice on earth. His word is law.

Priests -

Divine disciples of the mayan pantheon, these men carry considerable power and are second only to the King. Priests are also leaders of intellectual pursuits, seeking to better the name of the gods by attempting to understand their ways. They have no tolerance for those who do not follow the Palenquinian way of life. Priests usually double as architects, astrologers, and mathematicians.

Military Leaders -

Military leaders have a lot of power, they are the protectors of Palenquinian life, and are treated as such. They are granted pension (land) in return for their services, thus, Military leaders and Farmers are pretty equal on the social ladder.

Farmers -

Farmers are quite high on the social ladder, as they are essential to Palenquinian life. They carry considerable influence within domestic policy of Palenque.

Artisans -

Artisans are considered essential to Palenquinian culture. Without them, the gods could not be represented in glorious art form.

Merchants -

Merchants may be rich, but do not have much influence in the government. They are merely seen as men who sell the crafts of the mighty artisans.

Peasents -

People who work the farms and do other daily work for the kingdom. They are not considered evil, or vile, but they do not have influence either, as they are just workers on a farm.

Slaves -

Bottom of the social ladder, these are usualy captured POWs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Palenque Military Structure -

The Palenque boast an amazingly professional military hierarchy. Soldiers are not merely raised as conscripts, but are proffessional warriors, payed to kill/enslave others of different tribes. Palenque warriors serve for as long as they are able (usually around 25 years) and once retired, are given pension (farming land). The More power you have, the more money and land you get.

Update II: 2600 BC

Events

As the Sri Lankans initiate a great age of exploration and settlement of the Indian Ocean, they do indeed expect harsh resistance from the Sinhalese of whom they forced off their island. However, they are met instead with friendly relations, and even minor trade from the coastal ports of Sinhala to the island of Ceylon.

Mongolian influence spread as their sweeping armies spread culture to the northern barbarians. The Mongols are consistently being known as the regional power of the steppe barbarians, and many of them look on at the tribe with respect instead of hatred.

The llama chariots of the Dominion of Trikk spared no one as they crashed down upon the northern barbarians. However, their numbers are so few that it is hard to know if it was because of the chariots that the battles were won, or if it was because of the trained Trikk infantry. In any case, the northerners have fallen to the mighty Trikk armies. Meanwhile, specialized Trikk diplomats have managed to ally with a few Amazonian tribes, and have formed a coalition against the majority Amazon tribes.

As the army of Israel expected, the Mitanni launch a surprise attack with an invasion into Israel. However, they were not expecting the intense fortifications and for the Israelis to be as prepared as they were. When the chariot rush came, the first formation in military history was formed as the Israeli spearmen lined the crest of the hill with spears in front. The chariots eventually broke through with huge casualties, but were then mowed down by the defensive archers. The Mitanni were kept at bay. -1,500 Mitanni spearmen, 1,000 Mitanni chariots, 1,500 Israeli spearmen

Turning the Bantu tribes against themselves, the Garamantes strive to defeat these nomadic barbarians before they can become any real threat to the United Empire. However, so much attention is spread northward and the continued relations with Libya that the Bantu are given less then a wink of attention, and thus many desert the battles here. However, those that are fought are won, and the Garamantes prove to their Bantu allies that they are, in fact, warriors as well. -250 swift hunters. However, besides the wars, the country has begun to become the most modernized one, beginning a project of underground water canals as well as building numerous temples that educate the fortunate, and soon becoming the most educated nation in the world.

As the Emperor of the Qin Dynasty decides to give up control of the economy, the people are confused as to what an open market is, and the economy crashes as everyone is too afraid to do anything. However, as population rises the economy does as well, and the Huang He is soon reached and assimilated, giving a result of a new city founded that has huge market potential.

A single temple is constructed in Palenque, but this single temple is thrice the size of any other temple in the world, and is home to the Panqueinian’s school for the privileged. Out of this temple come the most educated men in all of the Americas, and so becomes known as the center of knowledge, the symbol of learning. A great emphasis is put on the new number system invented by the sooth sayers, as well as astronomy as people count the stars as gods.

The Chesapeake begin to clear massive amounts of forests, being the fist nation to directly take part in the destruction of a certain ecosystem. However, this wood has been used to construct mighty cities, as others pop up and the demand for timber increases.

Tohuku is greeted with a huge army from the south: the army of Chubu marches in unison against the growing threat in the north. In one battle, the Tohuku forces are drastically defeated, and forced to flee, abandoning their capital. The Tohuku emperor is relocated to the northern island of Hokkaido, where he remains to this day, ruling his kingdom from a’north. This comes as a huge patriotic surge in the homeland of Chubu, as men are recruited to replace those who died in battle. -2,300 Tohuku samurai, 500 Tohuku mounted samurai, -2,000 Chubu samurai, 250 Chubu mounted samurai.

The Zulu arise in the southern part of Africa, and quickly adept to the ways of war when the surrounding countryside suddenly becomes populated with raiding barbarians and the such. It is a miracle that the Zulu have even become a unified tribe in such a hostile area. Meanwhile, a little more mellow in the south, the Xhosa arise along the golden coast of the continent.

Deciding to use force in order to persuade the last island to join the Atlantis chain, the Atlantean army lands and overcomes the defenses of the last island and brings it under control. Taking this as a sign, Atlantis continues on to explore, and finally lands on another chain of islands, much south then Atlantis. The skilled sailors soon bring settlers to these lands, and soon enough the island chain is under control of Atlantis. The city of Oceania is founded upon the largest island, and is quickly becoming a port-oriented city as thousands of merchants enter and leave the port every day. It is a busier port then that of even Atlantis.

In a surprise attack, the Yamato army is landed on the various islands under Kyushu control. Being the weakest of the Japanese powers, Kyushu is faced with retreat to their city as the Yamato ravage the countryside and pillage the remaining military outfits left in the field. No major battle has yet to occur, and not many casualties have come about. -250 Kyushu samurai, -200 Yamato samurai

Also, you never added training stats. And does a command economy mean we can grow it at will?

Training stats are added for those who have any training at all. Reread the economy rules, a command economy only means it is more stable, hope that helps . Btw, your UU implies that there are big ships, in which case you are wrong, the galleys of this age are merely rafts with sides .

((OOC: Well, a Llama, even a specially trained one, isn't very fast, but I'm fairly certain that after a couple of centuries of breeding then (micro)evolution will have allowed us to create a faster breed of Llama, even now some improvement would be obvious))

After a couple of centuries genetically altering the Llama’s DNA? LoL, it can’t be done. However, I will allow for a little fiction, just so we can have some kind of horse substitute in America.

Will we have religion stats? I have an idea for developing my religion/culture overtime, but I need to know for sure.

No, not a stat, but it is already on the front page, in the miscellaneous post thing.

Sheep, fill out a proper template and you may join.

What did I say to make the majority of ya’ll to increased education? Lol.

Let’s not forget that in order to get those canal projects finished, you have to spend money .

Notes:

For those who did not send orders, you got lucky, this time I expanded you and I banked your money. Next time you may not be so lucky.

Starting next turn I will have random events. Three will be good ones, rewarding those who write good stories. One will be bad, randomly chosen of those who did not.

Tomorrow I will update the rules to better explain the projects, infrastructure, and introduce trade.

I forcast Saturday to be the next update.

From Chubu

Now, my friends, is the time to let the world know of our agreement.

So it Began, once upon a time far in the south of the african continent

Shaka's mother was a child of a deceased chieftain of the eLangeni clan and her name was Nandi. Shaka's father was a chieftain of the small, then unknown Zulu clan and his name was Senzangakona. The failed marriage forced Nandi to return to her tribe, but she was less welcomed there then with the Zulus. Shaka grew up fatherless among people who despised his mother and him. He was made the butt of every cruel joke and ridiculed about his body. He grew up lonely and bitter with his only companion being his mother, whose life also was miserable. The intelligent and naturally sensitive boy knew of his royal blood and the origins of his tormentors. He harbored great hatred for them till his death.

At the age of 23, he was called to serve as a Mtetwa warrior and did so for the next six years. In battle, he found an outlet for his pent-up frustrations and developed his political policy. He saw battle as the one safe method of political growth and was never satisfied with a clan's submission before being taken to war. He fought for total annihilation. He also developed a brutal and fatal weapon called the 'iKlwa'.

In his first battle, he fought the Butelezi clan winning their territories that included the Zulu clan. At this time, Dingiswayo, the Mtetwa chieftain, saw the qualities of a leader in Shaka. He decided that he would be the potential chieftain of the Zulus, especially since they were too far out in the Mtetwa territory and could be a buffer from outside attack. Meanwhile, Shaka was made the leader of the Mtetwa army and here he refined his battle tactics, tools and the army. When Senzangakona died, Shaka was made the Zulu chieftain. From that day forward the Zulus were destined for fame.

The first people he attacked were the eLangeni clan. From them, he only spared those who showed him and his mother kindness. Then he went on and destroyed the Butelezi clan, leaving few survivors.

Shaka worked the Zulu warriors rigorously, treating them as clay for his molding. He punished the sign of slightest hesitation with death, commanded his army to become celibate except for those already wed, placed them under one roof but separated them in specialty regiments, made weapons from scratch and instilled in the warriors the same fighting spirit he had. He spared himself no luxury of a true king. He had now reshaped what had been the unknown Zulus.

An Impi is a Zulu warband. The first Impis were formed by King Shaka Zulu

Impi warriors are raised from the age of 6. They are trained to outrun a horse, cover about 80 km (50 miles) a day in foot and hide and stalk in the underbrush. They swear loyalty to the king of the Zulu tribe. They are not allowed to marry before they have proved their courage in some way.

Every impi shield is 1500 warriors strong and contained warriors from the same age group. Every impi had its own colors in colored shields, headdress and other ornaments. An Impi was also accompanied by young boys who carried implements like cooking pots and sleeping mats. They troops may not wear no shoes since they could run faster and were not disabled by the loss of their sandals. They Train for this by stamping thorns into the ground with bare feet.

In wartime, warriors paint their upper bodies and faces with chalk and red ochre. Their weapons are short stabbing spears (Iklwa), cudgels (knobkerrie) and leather shields. The Warriors are forbidden from throwing their Iklawa, since it would disarm them and give their opponents something to throw back, anyone who does not have his spear after a battle would be killed.

Impi are also famous for their custom 'washing of spears (in their enemy's blood)' in which they cut open the belly of killed (and allegedly sometimes still living) opponents. This means the release of the opponent's spirit so it could not haunt the killer.

Shaka uses his impis with a modified circling tactics; Impi troops would divide into four groups. Main group ('chest') would face the enemy, two wings ('horns') on two sides of the enemy and then force them towards the center. The fourth party (usually the veterans) remained as a reserve. They travelled light, and carried their own food or foraged along the way. Thus tactics against their enemies are to surprise and overwhelming force, rather than siege or long campaigns.

Orders:
Spend 1 income in recruiting new Zulu Impi's
Start Project: Vaal River Gold and Diamond Deposits (Adds a by the mod decided bonus to Income)

Attack and Annex the Tribes Westwards with the following tactic
Against the Ndwandwe, numerically superior neighbors, shaka inteds to play hide-and-seek games while laying waste to the land to prevent foraging, with this Shaka's will uses his impi’s great stamina to tire down his enemies and then to attack them when they Ndwandwe are divided or exhausted.

Your education was increased, it was at idiotic and now it is at ignorant. And you did not order a city, nor did you really specify it (you merely touched on a hint of adding a city) in your little story before your orders. Next time, put it in your orders for maximum security.

OOC: Good update, but Bosporata is in Constantinople like I said before. It DOES matter in this case, you know (whether one's capital is coastal or not...).

Why didn't you add my UU, or at least noted my attempt to get horsemen? Lol, I feel as if my orders were lost somewhere along the way. ADDED: Just checked the thread, and I think that indeed they were.

Not much time for story - am still working on NES2 II stats.

IC:

Seft, son of Seft (son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft, son of Seft... You get the picture.), looked at Bosporata, the City of the Hill. Surrounded by a wooden palisade, it was not really safe from Aenor's wrath, but Aenor rarely cared about what the mortals thought. Quite reasonably, Seft noted, as he himself rarely cared about what simple shepherds thought.

West of Bosporata, new lands were being discovered. Seft (son of Seft, son of Seft, etc...) also heard of odd people who called themselves Acheans, or Spartans. They had reputation of great warriors, but very arrogant. Seft was not very religious, but even he shuddered at the thought that some would dare to throw a challenge to Aedor, such as marching in a formation against the wind.

But, perhaps, they would have to wait. After all, Aedor himself could deal with it if he finds it insulting. What are god powers for, anyway?

Orders:
- Try to breed war horses (i.e. get horsemen).
- If succesful, create a new UU - the Windriders: These swift horsemen wear little armor, and thus are not too good in cavalry vs. cavalry battles. However, they are IDEAL for maneuvering, skirmish, hit-and-run and flank attacks. They are most fearsome warriors, partially due to special narcotics, large quantities of alcohol and their belief in invincibility. Even the bravest men's hearts can be filled with fear from their war cry. 250 per credit.
- Get more warriors!
- Westward expansion to find the legendary "western sea" (Adriatic, ofcourse, I don't expect you to find the Pacific Ocean there. Though that would be most welcome).
- Try to somehow increase the Chieftain's control over different Thracian tribes.
- Try to create a martial culture - don't enforce anything, but encourage military training of children from birth/young age.

To the Scots:
The Mighty Nation of England greets you, we are both great poeple and there is no need for us to not be the same nation. We suggest that we merge into the same nation, the United Kingdom of England and Scotland.
As you prorobly have heard tales of we have already destroyed the Welsh riders, something that shows our might, we have heard tales about you to...

Orders and Story later when this is replied to.

Just some changes you should reaaly consider:
Burgundy-Gaul
Austria-Halvetii
Bavaria-Germania
Scotland-Pictland

Oh and the capital of Denemark supose to be invisible ;) Just change back to the circle with white circle around it, it's best.

Reread what projects are.
There is no rule for projects...

After a couple of centuries genetically altering the Llama’s DNA? LoL, it can’t be done. However, I will allow for a little fiction, just so we can have some kind of horse substitute in America.
Actualy it has been done on horses to created faster horses that are breed by humans, also was done to MANY MANY types of plants and many types of dogs, cats and like this... Just the Lama's are just slow not because it's in their DNA... it's because their physical shape... They are more massive that horses thought and could carry much more...

They are more massive that horses thought and could carry much more...

Do you mean that, just like I posted on the Pax Romana story thread a second ago, horses are sentient, but understimated the size of the llamas?

Sorry, erez, I didn't mean to laugh about that, its just the coincidence that strikes me.
