stJNES9 - Changing Times

Mongols

Under the leadership of a small dynasty of Khans under the Chogukil familly, the Mognolians had became the regional power, and had gained respect amung the other steppe tribes. This pleased the current Khan Mikih.

Khan Mikih was a pleasant man,but he,being born of the Steppes, was also a hard working man.He knew that his men needed a new weapon for war,and he had invented one a long time ago. This was the bow,and arrow. The Bow and Arrow would totally revolutionise the way the mongols could hunt, and wage war.

ORDERS
-Spend one economy on makeing bows and arrows for my horsemen
-Expand my culture even further to the north.Ally myself with the other Steppe tribes, since they're usually always wanting to ally themselves with the power of the region. And with this alliance can flow trade,in which my culture would spread faster, and soon the steppe tribes would be absorbed into the mongol culture.

Chapter 1, Part 2: Early Expansion of Sri Lanka

Around 2680, experiments were made with ships which had decks in which slits were cut from which fire arrows could be shot. However, lacking iron tools, the wood could not be held close enough together to have underwater ships, and all made inevitably sank.

These were also the years of the then-empire's first expansion. Colonies were established in the Maldives and Nicoban islands. A wary peace with the Sinhalese was established, and gradually trade began to occur.

Around 2600, the famous Sri Lankan fire archers came into their prime. The archers perfected the technique of quickly lighting, then firing, their arrows, and arrows were made which lit easily but burned for long periods. They used lit grease from their cooking fires, which magnified if the enemy tried to put it out with water. For this reason, the heroic firefighters were established in the archer corps. Their job was to stomp out accidental fires, sometimes suffering large burns in the process.

In 2598, an expedition was sent to mainland India for the first time, and the consequences were to be far reaching. More on that in Part 3.

A Side Note: the Sri Lankan Timber Camps

Timber camps became widespread around this time, and were one of the major factors in the growth of the navy. Because of the efficiency, they could build many more ships in the same time that it took other early civilizations to build ships. The most striking example is the Great Timber camp on the outskirts of ancient Colombo. This massive operation was the main source of the timber for the entire empire. It was also the major source of income, as taxation from the sale of timber made the treasury skyrocket. Of course, much time and effort had to be devoted to this great undertaking, and this brought the Sri Lankans into an even closer community.

Orders
*Secret*
-Invest a credit into my project: Great Timber Camp. It will increase the economy because of the extra production (and taxes from it) and should also cause more ships/credit.
-Otherwise, increase education.
-Expand according to the picture. 1000 infantry, 1000 archers, settlers, and 1/4 of my navy should settle on the mainland, and create the city shown, Calcutta. 500 infantry, 500 archers, settlers and 1/4 of the navy should settle each of the islands (so 1000 i, 1000 a, and 1/2 of the navy in total.)
-1/2 of the navy should protect Sri Lanka and the already settled islands.
-Increase taxation to normal on the islands settled last turn.
-Half taxation on the new colonies (to encourage growth).
-Since my UU won't work, I've decided to make a new one: fire archers. They fire fire arrows, and can be stationed on boats to shoot from there. Fire is cheap, so I should get the same amount per economy as normal archers. And can all of my archers be turned into fire archers? The story will include the fire archers.

"Actualy it has been done on horses to created faster horses that are breed by humans, also was done to MANY MANY types of plants and many types of dogs, cats and like this... Just the Lama's are just slow not because it's in their DNA... it's because their physical shape... They are more massive that horses thought and could carry much more..."

And where do they get their physical shape? DNA...

"You increased my education after i posted that. and i assumed the city was built since it said so in the update."

I most certainly did not change it. And I do take offense when you suggest that I lied.

Our god is a wrathful god. He did not rest until we drove you from our holy isle. But he is also a rational one. You have done no injustices to us. For this reason, we would like to sign a peace treaty. Also, we may be interested in trading later, when we have figured out a way to formalize it (OOC: Hint, hint: could we have the trade rules?.

Siam

With the expansion going particularly we and more people joining the greater Siamese cause, the emperor was pleased.

So many people joined the the Siamese cause because they all felt a sense of belonging to it. Though there were social divides, (farmers, builders, and military men) no one person was better than the other. They were all in it to make Siam as great an empire the world had yet seen.

With the population growing, military getting stronger, and the Emperors great markets underway it seemed like nothing would stop Siam from reaching its height of power. Even with uncertainties regarding the people of Thai and Mekong. But the emperor did not want to act to drastically with the two nations, so he sent out emissaries to both proposing friendly relations.

But with people still somewhat nervous about the two unkown nations the emperor took another step into making his military a force to be reckoned with. So he establised a new branch to it. Known as the Elites. These were men trained to fight since birth. They could handle just about any type of enemy since they were to fight on offense and on defense. They could fight on the battlefield or pull of a cunning sneak attack. Though their numbers were small, their capabilities more than made up for it. They did indeed make the people of Siam feel much safer.

Orders

invest 1 tax credit into project "Markets of Bangkok"- hopefully to help increase economy and tax income
send messengers to Thai and Mekong offering friendship
expand in all directions with infantry and warriors
create new new UU- Siamese Elite Troopers- Men trained to fight since birth, good in all forms of fighting (especially offense), armed with short swords, also good at leading armys

The Yamato Familiy had risen to power quickly after their rise to dominance in Southern Honshu. The Chubu to the North had quickly allied them selves with the Yamato, whether to secure their southern border, or to create a unifed Japan, it is not clear. In anycase, the Yamato made a startling military move, and overwhelmed the Republic of Kyushu. Entering diplomatic talks with the Kyushu, the Yamato Family forced them to surrender.

Emporer Yuusou of Yamato rode along the worn dirt paths of the Kyushu republic. Coming to the predetermined location where both leaders of their respective empires would meet, Yuusou whispered quietly to his general of Operations, Ketsuzen, "I smell a great trap. They should know better to try and betray the warrior Kings of Yamato." They general stayed silent, but motioned off to one side with his hands. The grass and trees seemed to sway in an invisiable wind.

The leader of Kyushu's republic stood alone in the clearing smiling, he opened his hands wide, too wide, and called out to Yuusou," Glory to the great Kings of Yasmato!" He seemed to wait for something, then frustrated he called out agian,"How great it is for the Warrior King of Yamato would come all this way along this path!" Suddenly there was the clash of steel, and a battle began taking place within the very trees. Yuusou merely smiled at the leader, drawing his own sword. The leaders eyes widened in fear.

"My family hates betrayers, Tabibito, we have for hundreds of years. What makes you think you are any different?" the clinging in the forests stopped, and a samirai guard of the Yamato walked out carrying an assianian. "Petty Assianains, Tabibito? You should know that an entire army in need to kill me. As for you, you will be killed." Yuusou rasied his sword, and it cuaght the rising sun. The sword shown with the golden fury of the Gods, and the tales about the blessed Yuusou soon began to spread through out Kyushu. The next leader of the Kyushu accepted the Yamato's reign without question. After all, who could fight one blessed by the Gods?

Speech to the Kyushu Soldiers

"I have come here as a conquerer, and that is what I am. I know this in the glares you throw at me. However, you lord swears fealty to me, and by honor, you are honor bound to serve me also! Never forgot the Code of the Bushido, never forget it! The Gods will judge you by it in the after-life! The Bushido calls for honor, and therefore honor Bushido, by honoring, and following me."

Qin
Rise of Empire

With the death of the old Emperor, a new Emperor once more rose on the throne, this one MUCH more energetic as he had seen the results of his Father’s Reign and was most disappointed, the peasant’s no understanding of the theory “free” economy had been the major reason why the economy had collapsed. So he decided to issue an edict to inform the people of what a “free” economy was:

A free economy allows the People selling goods to set their own prices as long as it is under the Governmental Maximum, allows people to bid for resource rich area from the government to own, and allows private transactions without government approval.

He then ordered this to be copied and sent to all the village leaders to inform them their new rights under this system. He then ORDERED a city to be built on the new banks of the Huang He, and that a road would be built between Xian and the other city so that trade and travel would be conducted much more effectively.

Qin Orders
Build a city on the banks of the part of the Huang He that was discovered

Spend 1 tax credit on building a road between that city and Xian.

Have 500 Warriors and 500 Bowmen travel east from Xian along the Huang He river to bring more of the fertile lands under Qin dominion.

Have the 500 Warriors and 500 Bowmen in the western parts of the Huang He River go southwest to explore and find out where the Huang He river begins.

Pass out the edict to all the Village Leaders

Georgia

Samara of Mtskheta walked through his city of Tbilisi. He was very happy with what he saw. A beautiful city, long streets, statues, arches. This is the way he wanted to see his homeland - strong, rich and beautiful. And small. Let all others fight it out, as long as they leave his homeland alone. Samara was in love with his home, the Caucus mountains, the grape orchards, the rising sun in the mornings. It was his, and he was going to make it great.

Azon of Ferestavi was a great landowner and a friend of Samara. He was given the land north of Tbilisi named Osetia and the sity of Cihinvalli. Farnavaz was another landlord who was given Adzaria with its sity of Batum. These two people became almost as strong as Samara, and were given the right to do mostly whatever they pleased. Samara thought that by doing so he would allow the local economies to grow and prosper while he concentrated on the local problems around Tbilisi.

In Tbilisi Samara did all he could to make the city great. He raised taxes to get the money, but spent it only on the city. Projects of roads, temples, marketplaces sprung up, and most importantly he started building massive walls around the city.

Orders:
Give command of Osetia and Adzaria to the two landlords, have then take care of their own regions.
Expland slowly, just along the mountains, do not leave the Caucus region
Start a project: The White City
This is a series of constructions, using a lot of marble, in the city of Tbilisi. The focus are the city walls, streets of marble, statues, temples, and marketplaces. It should create a beutiful and elegant city in the middle of the mountains as the center of Caucus civilization and a symbol of Georgian prosperity.
Spend all the money on the project.

- Expand villages already, and order more villages started in good sites that the Gods agree with.
- Instruct people to worship the Gods, and hgow to do so, as they must be kept happy.

Story:

Chief Is-Whoy-Malth (herein after referred to Chief Equimalt, since that is what Is-Whoy-Malth means in English) was having a good deep sleep. He was in his capital city, and had had a hard days work of catching salmon in the nearby River (Frasser, IRL). This eyar, theser Fish were plentiful, which was a sign that the Gods were smiling upon him. But Chief Esquimalt was still troubled. He knew that the Gods needed to talk to him, and he needed to talk to them. He was just too busy, he had so much to do, caring for his nation, resolving disputes, it was a lot of work for 1 man.

When he finally woke up, and crawled out of his dugout, he could tell that he over-slept. Ahh well, he thought, might not be a bad thing. He did need his sleep. Once he was dressed in his hides (It was winter, the weather is starting to get cold), and had sufficiently woken up, he went to find his assisstant, Bigbear.
"Bigbear, whats going on today?" asked the Chief.
"Oh, hello Chief, didn't notice you there. Well, we have had complaints from some of the smaller villages by the Ocean about the roads, so I thought we would go and see what can be done about that." replied Bigbear.
"Good thinking, lets get going, it will be a long ways."
"Yes Chief, I just need a bit of time to organize some supplies, and your guard."
"Do it quickly, I am feeling impatient".

A couple hours later . . .

They had been travelling for several hours. Chief Esquimalt was getting tired. He called to Bigbear, and told him that we are taking a break. Then something funny happened to Equimalt. He went into a trance. Well, sort of. His eyes went glassy. He started looking around suspiciously. Bigbear was getting worried, he started to approach the Chief, but, before he could get to the Chief, he dashed off into the thick woods. Bigbear was not as concerned as one might think that he would be, after all, the Chief occaisionally did this, and he always came back.

Chief Esquimalt, meanwhile, knew that the Gods needed to talk to him. He let his senses take him to a small rockey outcropping, and to a small cave. He went inside, and stood in the middle of the cave, which was about 10 feet by 10 feet, and stood still, straight as a rod, and, with his eyes closed, started a low, rhythmic chanting. It was not long until he noticed some . . . well, what can only be described as bodies, but not bodies. These were the Gods of his proud Nation, and provided him with advice on what to do. These were, in reality, Ghosts of past leaders of the proud Coast Salish.
The God of Land went first. "Chief" he said in a low, drawling voice, "listen to me, and listen good. Your people are not happy. They need something which only you can provide. Your people currently travel from village to village on small, crowded pathways. You must make these into large, proper travel-ways. Your people must be able to travel from village to village easily. Then, your nation will prosper."
The God of the Empire was next. "Chief", he said in a deep, booming voice, "what I have to say affects your entire nation. You need more land. You have men with spears, and men with ships. Look at the Islands to the seas. You must go there, and settle the land. I know that there is good land there, and your people will be able to grow fine foods, and build nice houses. There is one particular section with trees with little nuts on them. They are called "Oak Trees". You are to treat this area as a special area, and not cut them down, or, if you must cut them down, do not cut them all down. In the other direction, take your troops and settlers, and setlle out into the vast wilderness that has been provided for you by the Creator. Go mainly by the Rivers, as they will provide prosperity for your nation."
God of the Military went next. "Chief, what I have to tell you might concern the long-term survival of your nation.", he said. "OOC - Censored, did you think I was honestly going to give out my military plans?. Do not do what I just told you this turn,. or next, roiads are more important, but it must be done. The Coast Salish will be victorous."
God of the People went next. "Chief, currently your people are happy and love you, but you must expand this. They need temples to further express their love and affection for us, if not, we will get unhappy. Roads are more important, but, you must do this, or will get very displeased, and you know what that means. Also, you need to make sure that all your people have houses, and enough food. And you need more people. Urge your people to reproduce more. You need a larger population! Also, You will wake up tomorrow, and know of some plants. These are what we know to be useful for healing your nation. That is all that we have to say for now. Now GO!, and do our bidding!"

Chiefs trembled as they were finished. He has a sheen of sweat all over his body. "Yes, I understand. I think your holinesses for the excellent advice. I will go do as is neede dot make my nation bigger and better. You know where to find me if you need me."

With that, Chief left the cave, walked into the sun, and looked at the time. Ahh, excellent, only about 10 minutes surpassed. Well, hge had a vision for his nation. He know knew exactly what needws to be done, and he couldn't agree more. He went, and found Bigbear, and went off to plan some roads for his nation. He went with light heart, as he was happy. He forsaw good times for his people.

KINGDOM OF ISRAEL:

Spend Money on Archers.

TOP SECRET
1) Orange arrows represent expansion into the Sinai. Offer low taxes to all citizens who wish to relocate to this area. Encourage the idea that metals are to be found in abundance here, waiting for settlers to come and take them. Send 150 Infantry along as a security precaution.

2) 900 Spearmen to Fortify in Jerusalem, do not leave it undefended.

3) 1,000 Chariots to swing around flank of Mitanni, strike the interior of their nation. Raid supply lines, communications lines, etc. Wreak havoc. This should be a big morale boost for us, and hurt the enemy’s morale.

4) 1,500 Spearmen to remain fortified at border as before. They are to be joined by 500 Archers, who will fire upon the advancing enemy. 500 Infantry to stay in rear areas to attack any enemy that manage to break through our lines.

5) Along the narrow Coastal Plain, 500 Archers to launch volley after volley of arrows down upon Opposition Forces. After a short time of this, 1,000 Chariots are to charge the enemy forces, who should still be reeling from the hail of arrows. The Chariots are to follow the Coastal Plain northwards towards the Capital. 350 Infantry and 500 Spearmen are to follow cautiously, defending the flanks and supply/communications line of the advancing Chariots.
