stJNESX: From Bad to Good
Update 8: 1300bce
With the introduction of iron into the Empire of Takir, the first thing does was the re-quipping of the ancient and useless clubmen with iron swords and shields. The first use of these deadly swordsmen was in the south, the rebellious Roman provinces which were still adapting to life under Takir rule. General Mui Su, son of the famous general who led the invasion of Rome, commanded a 300-man army which quieted any rebellion in Rome. While riots and uprisings are still common, with a force like that of Mui Sus in Rome the province is stable. Meanwhile, a second force is dispatched to take care of the nobles sons, whose fathers rebelled from Takir an age ago. Most surrendered when confronted with the might of Takir. Also, more and more Anglo people flee from the Pict rule in Britain to what they call Angleland in northwest Takir.
Casualties: 150 swordsmen, 25 spearmen total in quelling the rebellions.
As if quelling rebellions was not enough, Takir armies clashed with that of the Massilian border patrols, quickly destroying the initial defense force and diving into the Massilian rolling grasslands. The Ching Guard, the elite spearmen of the Takirian army, leads the way towards Massil, the capital.
Casualties:
Takir - 120 swordsmen, 20 spearmen
Massilia 200 clubmen
Gaul armies also march to war, their first, alongside the troops from Takir. They are less trained, and less experiences, but still pack a good force. However, little fighting is done between the Massilians and Gaul, mostly because Massilia is focused greatly on defeating the larger threat: Takir. They also learn iron from fighting alongside the Takir soldiers.
The War of Assyria continues in Mesopotamia. Thousands of Canaanite troops are sent into battle in the land between the rivers, wielding their new iron weapons and the myth of Kara Baali to their advantage. Superior tactics, utilizing the ability of their swift and agile chariots, gives the Canaanites an upper hand in the Battle of Mitanni, the Canaanite general Odreath defeats the Assyrian northern army here on these plains, and thus the whole of northern Assyria falls to the Canaanites.
Meanwhile, the Akkadians in the south fair worse then their ally, still fighting with a large portion of their army using clubs. However, the new Akkadian Charioteer, a worthy competitor to the battle harden Hyksos Chariot if they were to ever meet in battle, makes its debut on the battlefield with the destruction of the Assyrian chariot force. The Akkadians also make needed gains in the east, crossing the Tigris and, with an army coming up on the opposite side of Nineveh, the capital is surrounded, and the last of the Assyrian troops remain garrisoned inside.
Both armies run into huge stores of wealth, Odreath uncovers the royal treasures after the battle of Mitanni, and the Akkadians find it when crossing the river Tigris. Both have experienced a new height in their treasuries.
Casualties:
Canaan 100 swordsmen, 20 chariots
Akkadia 250 clubmen, 25 archers, 20 chariots
Assyria 300 clubmen, 50 archers, 75 chariots
The first mass-produced item in the world occurs in Gujarat, where hundreds of scribes are recruited to write down, in the primitive pictograph language of the Gujarati people, the speech the emperor made regarding the invading Persians. He states that they are struggling for freedom, and refer to the Persians as conquering people who wish to steal our lands and drive us away. He refers to that of the Bhojas, who, according to Gujarati legend, drove the Gujarati from their native lands. At the end of the speech, he pleas the people to defend what we have worked so hard for.
The Gujarati military performs more adequate then that of the scribes who wrote hundreds of copies of the speech. Through brilliant planning, the Gujarati are well prepared for a Persian attack. The only problem is that the attack never comes. So, skipping the first part of their orders, the general moves onto the next, this is to launch a series of behind-the-line missions, and to use hit-and-run tactics using clubmen in the swampy areas. To counter this, Persians withdraw all the way until the environment supports large scale battles, destroys the small Gujarati force sent, and then reclaims the land that they left. This repetitive tactic works well, but the Gujarati slowly gain their land back, and push the Persians to the other side of the Indus. However, the Gujarati suffer humongous casualties, ones that they will not be able to replace. Luckily, though, through fighting against the Persian swordsmen the Gujarati learn the Iron Age.
Casualties:
Gujarati 350 clubmen, 100 Vishnu Warriors, 100 Spearmen
Persia 300 swordsmen, 100 chariots
It was a gloomy day when the last of the Novgorodian soldiers were rounded up near the capital. Mikhail, the general and the King, knew that he would be sending these men to their deaths, but he still hung on to the last bit of hope in his chest, the hope that somehow the Huns would be defeated and his kingdom saved. He had planned an ambush as the Huns were making their fleet on the Baltic, and so on a rainy day, the battle began by a surprise attack, bait, and finally an ambush. The Huns slaughtered the Novgorod army, nearly destroying every last man until Mikhail ordered the retreat. As he waited for his men to run, watching them getting butchered by the mounted Hun, he saw the face of Attila. He was not twenty feet in front of him, and was so caught up in the massacre that he did not notice Mikhail. At his feet, Mikhail found a bow and one arrow. Grabbing it, he aimed at the raging Attila, and let loose the arrow that saved Novgorod. Wide-eyed, Attila fell of his horse, the arrow stuck full into his spine. There, Attila died. Noticing their defeated king, the Huns soon gave up the fight and dispersed among the countryside. The fleet that was being built was no where to be found. The Novgorodians had victory, at a huge cost. (btw, you learn iron age).
Casualties:
Novgorod 300 clubmen, 200 archers, 250 spearmen
Huns 200 horsemen, Attila the Hun
The rebellious province of Titsu falls to the mighty Chinese force that punctures it. First, a small force is landed by galleys, but was defeated quickly because so many people saw the galleys floating down the river and since the men were so tired rowing the galleys upstream. However, the force that convinced Titsu leaders to surrender was that of the frontal assault, the main army. However, Emperor Taizu made the mistake of not leaving a suitable defense force, with which the Koguryo take full advantage of and strike from the north a second time. This time, though, they break through the initial defenses and have come dangerously close to Beijing. Meanwhile, a council of nobles is created to influence the emperor, pleasing more warlords and creating a sense of unity. However, what cancels this out is the fact that the emperor deciding to tax the peasants directly, bypassing the nobles.
Casualties:
Titsu: 200 Swordsmen
China: 250 Swordsmen, 50 spearmen, 100 horsemen, 2 galleys
Koguryo: 50 Chariots, 200 Clubmen
The Shang fall to the Shu dynasty, much the same way that the Titsu fell to the Chinese. A frontal army scared them, and most surrendered. In fact, not a single battle was fought, only a couple dozen men died on each side.
As news reaches the Hanseatic tribes of Attilas death and the Novgorodian victory, many decide it is best to rejoin the confederation. However, many still decide that their best future is alone, and instead of warring each other, they sign an alliance to aid each other should the Hanseatics attack.
With the taste of victory still in their mouths, the Bulgars launch a counterattack into Macedonia, intent on punishing the rouge nation for nearly pillaging Bulgar. Crossing the border, the Bulgars easily route the Macedonian guard, and strike hard at the capital city, Pella. Being ill prepared for the siege, the city falls quickly and is victim to the Bulgar army. Moral reaches an all-time low in Macedonia, and it will be something to remember should they be able to recuperate after this.
Casualties:
Macedonians 200 clubmen, 25 archers
Bulgars 200 clubmen, 25 chariots
The battles in Africa go on, as the Balearic Kingdom shows great skill on the battle field and in the sea, utilizing both aspects of warfare to better gain an advantage upon the Carthaginians. The Sicilian Straights are finally under their control, with the full occupation of Sicily, but to make sure that the Carthaginians never rise again, the city of Carthage is sacked. This sends another wave, twice as large as the first one, of refugees into Massilia. Faced with the threat of displacement again, most of the refugees join the Massilian army to fight the invading Takirians.
Casualties:
Carthage 10 galley, 400 clubmen, 100 spearmen, 100 archers
Balearic Kingdom 100 clubmen, 100 spearmen
The religion of the Egyptians, long sacred and unique to the Nile, continues to spread through Egypts tourists, ambassadors and merchants. The chief god of the New Revival (Egyptian religion) is Isis, goddess of life and water. Temples to Isis are found as far away as Gaul, and as close as Akkadia. So far, the New Revival of Egyptian Beliefs is by far the most widely practiced religion, being the majority religion in all three countries of the Nile, Carthage, and a large minority in Akkadia and the Saracen Empire.
