I believe that Velicar's journey deserves to be one of the historic moments. It is, after all, the first non-Mediterranean naval exploration voyage.

Cyrus, was most historians argee a illegitmaite desecendant of the last true Persian king. The last king having died with no legitmaite heir, a power vaccum ensured, the nobles took advantage of this to place a figurehead on the throne, so that they could control the country. And so it went for some generations, Persia on the outside looked strong but was not. In fact it was a rudderless ship a country capable of great things but lacked the will and leadership to fulfill its destiny.

Cyrus grew up as a poor noble, aware of his heritage but never able to do anything about. He lived on his job as steward of a powerful noble's estates but was not rich in money, but rich in his love of Persia. He hungered for the glory of Persia. But what could he do about it?

The nobles and their figurehead king controled the goverment and army and were content to let Persia drift as the became rich. Cyrus now knew that he would have to do something. He asked his noble boss if it was possible for him to join the army as an officer. The noble aware of Cyrus' hard work used his connections for him to join the army in the captial.

Cyrus arrived at the captial and took up his command. He began to talk to other officers, and found that many of the poor nobles who commanded the army felt the sameway as he did and all hungered for the glory of Persia. Cyrus took the best fighters, and smartest officers under his wing and began an orangzation. It's aim was to depose the figurehead king and restore the rightful family.

Quitely the officers brought more members of the army into the plan. Also brought in were rich merchants from the trading towns and ports. They hated the nobles for their monoplies and trading rights which stifled the smaller merchants. This was the plan's primary source of funding.

The family of the last true king was found and the last male descendant, Darius accepted, Cryus's plans.

With, the army under Cyrus, and the merchant and townsfolks supportive, the plan could safely go ahead.

At Noon August 12th(converted from earlier Persian Lunar calendar) 877BC. The army was ready and the plan was to be set in motion. Cyrus leading 1000 troops from the army's encampents outside the captial, marched to the palace where the false king ruled. Leading a small unit they killed the palace guards and swiftly stormed the palace. The false King was quickly captured and forced to step aside.

During the next week, Darius appointed Cyrus his head advison. They quickly established royal control over the captial. The nobles that had controled the kingdom for so long did not take this lightly. They quiclkly summoned all thier retainers and marched on the captial. This was to be Cryus's first test as commander of the Royal army.

He led the Royal Army past the Palace where Darius remained, through the street's of the captial, past cheering people. Persia's destiny was at hand and the fate of the country now lay with Cyrus.

The Nobles drew up their army outside the walls of the captial. It was almost twice as strong as the Royal army. But had one critcial weakness. The Royal Army had one commander, Cyrus. The Nobles had five men who thought they should lead the army. Taking advantge of this Cyrus, launched an immeadite attack, his infantry attacking the center, the Royal Cavarly attacking the wings.

The noble army parayzled by a lack of command, fought hard but started to disslove. As some Noble's left their men followed, but many remained and fought bitterly. Seeing this Cryus, led the Royal Household cavarly and charged at the weakest noble unit. He smashed through the noble lines. Seeing this the Royal Army started fighting harder and the Noble army broke and ran.

Persia had been set on course again!

Cyrus had won a great victory but the Nobles had negelcted much while in power. He set out to rectify this.

To help the flow of trade he began a massive road building program. Once completed goods, and people could move faster across the Kingdom. Much of the army was assgined to this.

Temples were to be built in every major city, and the spread of education could begin.

The Noble's estates were broken up and given to anyone with who promised to work them.

Construction of a massive new port began, the city of Bactra had been a centre of seaborne trade, but with this new port and it's, breakwaters, piers, and shelterd docking areas, many ships could now trade.

The Royal Cavarly that had won the battle that secured Darius would become a permant part of the Persian Army. These heavy shock troopers would become the primier assault troops of the army.
