WORLD NEWS UPDATE 4 - MAY 1901
Ural War
The Ural War continues with more fighting along the Ural front. The Mongols have made more defenses along the Ural fronts, but the Russo-Polish-Swedish armies have broken through nonetheless and have overrun Mongols in some of the Mongolian Empire.
In Astrakhan, the Emperor has been hanged by the Socialists and a Kazakh Socialist Republic has been established. Russian troops were allowed into the city. Throughout Russian-occupied Kazakhstan, the civilian militias are organizing into an army for the Socialist Republic, with help from the Russians who gave them the arms in the first place. Democrats, however, have likewise begun organizing their own supporters to bring Democracy to war-torn Kazakhstan. The Democrats have not recognized the right of Turkmenistan to be independent. The Democrats have denounced both Russia and Mongolia for invading Kazakhstan and for preventing democratic reform.
The TNLL has split into the Socialist and the Republican parties. When elections were held on the first of May, it was the Socialists that captured the people's hearts with an overwhelming 95% of the vote. These were the first elections around the world in which women were also given the right to participate. This alone shows the radical ideas of the people of a land that was ruled by a progress-hostile absolute monarchy. However, the Socialists are clearly communist, and there is no hope for Republicans to get any representation.
The successes of the Communists not only in faraway France but also in nearby Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have given the Tadzhik, Kyrgyz, and Uzbek Communists the courage to launch their own insurrection: something that they have been planning for months in secret. Several local Mongol overlords have been killed by the rebels. Much of the Turkic populations of these provinces have joined enthusiastically and for the first time in centuries of traditional ethnic conflict between the Tadzhiks, Uzbeks, and Kyrgyzians, they are working in fraternity.
In the East, the front holds steady in Altay and in Manchuria. The armies of Korea and Mongolia and China have fought to a stalemate and war of attrition. The "border" constantly shifts back and forth, and civilian casualties are staggering already, lowering the morale of the Koreans and the Chinese.
Mongolia - 1,200,000 troops; China - 3 Hvy Artilleries, 1,000,000 troops; Korea - 400,000 troops; Russia - 800,000 troops; Poland - 400,000 troops; Norway-Sweden - 400,000 troops
Caribbean War
The War has expanded to include the Aztecs and the Incas as well - ON THE SIDE OF ITALY! Strangely coinciding with this stunning news is the withdrawal of Portugal from Inca-resident territory. The Aztec and Inca navies and armies are already assisting the Italians on the eastern seaboard! In several places, the Inca-Aztec troops have established small beachheads and zones of control.
However, at home, the people of Inca and Aztec empires are very unhappy with their governments' decision to step in on behalf of the Europeans. This sentiment is even stronger among the Inca population, who believe that all Europeans should leave the Americas and let the Americans decide for themselves. It could potentially destabilize both governments.
The Battle of Boston continues, though with the help from the Aztecs and Incas, the Italians are doing much better than they were before. They have managed to surround the city and effect a naval blockade as well, cutting off supply lines. Many of the Aztec and Inca commanders have forbidden their artilleries from bombarding the city itself, wishing to preserve the American beauty of the city's structures.
On the Italian Home Front, the communists are being crushed gradually, eliciting anger from the French government.
Italy - 900,000 troops, 1 Artillery; Iroquois - 8 Hvy. Artilleries, 1,400,000 troops; Inca - 700,000 troops; Aztec - 800,000 troops
Central Europe
Armament continues.
German Unionists win control of the Swiss Nationalrat. Its parliamentary victory shows the Swiss people's desire to unite with Prussia.
Belgium, Austria, and Hungary form the Central European League.
Austria gives an economy level to Prussia as gesture of goodwill.
Zulu War
The Zulue Empire has been invaded by Somalia, Japan, and USEA!
The USEA has destroyed much of the Zulu Navy and have attacked Madagascar. The Zulu troops on the island were overwhelmed. Just prior to the actual invasion, the South-Eastern Asian forces have threatened the Madagascarians to surrender or die. The threats worked and many of the coastal areas gave up with no fight.
The Japanese meanwhile invaded into Zululand itself. The bulk of the fighting of this first month of the war was there, since the Zulus had the majority of their army near their homeland. The Japanese maintain a solid beachhead and have dealt critical blows to the Zulus because of the surprise.
The Somalians have invaded in the north, to liberate its Somalian peoples that have been rebelling for a few months now. The least fighting was there, as the troops there were even more scant than on Madagascar.
Zulu Empire - 2,000,000 troops; 1000 ships; Japan - 200,000 troops; USEA - 200,000 troops, 100 ships; Somalia - 100,000 troops.
