IN THE NEWS: JULY-DECEMBER 1912
Amsterdam News - July 4th
The German Government has begun deportation of all able-bodied Danish men to forced labor into the Rhineland. Here in occupied Denmark, the deportations are beginning to take a heavy toll on the already-near-destroyed local economy and the Danish industry is losing all functionality.
Lwow News - July 10th
The Russians have pulled most of their forces out of Austria-Hungary and into Ukraine. In the Ukrainian villages, terror has begun yet again as entire crowds were literally mowed down by tanks and the vacant houses burnt to the ground, obviously maneuvers to demoralize and continute the terror campaign against the Ukrainian people.
Cologne Courier - July 15th
Reports from Denmark about the military's atrocities against numerous villages and towns during the deportations have begun to turn the people against the government. In one story of the terror, "a 77-year-old woman in Amsterdam was shot to death after hiding her 19-year-old grandson from the German troops to save him from being sent to Germany. Terrified neighbors witnessed from inside their houses as she was first beaten and then shot multiple times by the German soldiers. Her grandson was also mauled and then taken away as their house was set on fire."
Protests are beginning in our city, calling for an end to brutality against the Danes.
Gibraltar National News - July 22nd
We have independence!
The Gibraltar Colony Council has declared that negotiation with the Italian government has yielded full independence to Gibraltar and its people. The GCC has proclaimed itself as the Provisional Government, and the first parliamentary election is slated for March 1913. The President of the Government, Romano Juarez, stated that the 9 months should be enough time for Gibraltar's political parties to form and campaign. President Juarez has already been guaranteed by the Provisional Government the spot of President of the Republic after the parliamentary election to allow for a smooth transition from dependent colonial status to fully-independent country.
Warsaw Reporter - July 27th
Protests are occurring around the world against the German aggression in Denmark and atrocities against the Danish civilians. In Lwow, Warsaw, Rome, Palermo, Jinan, Dushanbe, Mecca, Moscow, Chicago, Toronto, and many other cities, thousands of people are demonstrating for their governments to do something to protest the German Military and Government's oppression against the Danes.
Yokohama Times - August 1st
USEA troops have crossed into China, ending the uneasiness and tensions between China and the USEA and bringing an open war. However, the Chinese had been evacuating civilians and mining their southern border for the past month, and many of their tanks and soldiers were blown up. With their surprise ruined by the explosions, the USEA sent its air force and managed to destroy 2 of the larger airports in southern China, but the Chinese planes, alerted by the distant explosions, were already prepared and are engaging in an air battle even right now.
Yokohama Times - August 3rd
The Chinese won the air battle! Most of the USEA air force has been shot down by the defender pilots, while the remaining 1/4 has been forced to fly back across the border. In addition, more tanks have attempted to cross into China, coming up over the charred remains of the soldiers and tanks from the previous days, most of the mines having been detonated already. Unfortunately for the USEA, deep, wide trenches have also been dug just north of the minefield, and the first line of tanks plunged into the trenches. The rest of the tanks, seeing the fate of those firsts, have stopped and pulled back. A relatively small portion of the USEA troops have fled the front and deserted, no longer wanting to fight such a prepared enemy.
Meanwhile, on the high seas, it is the Seasians that have the advantage, wiping out the small Chinese fleets and subjecting Shanghai to extensive bombardment. Our valiant Japanese fleet, however, has defended greatly, and even though the Seasian U-24s have sunk some of our ships and submarines, we are sure to maintain control over the sea between China and Japan.
Communique from the Seasian Pacifist Democratic Party, to the People of the USEA - August 5th
"People of the Union of South-East Asia! Our government has gone to war yet again! They have always told us of only unconditional victories for our side, and have never shown us any military tactical or strategic failure! They have done this during the Great War, and they are going to try again now, in this new, useless war against China and Japan that they have started!
But what, if anything, that the government tells us is true? They told us we had nothing but victories in the Great War... and yet we were on the losing side? They told us our troops triumphed on every front, on every battlefield! That every single people of the lands we... correction... they [the government] were fighting wanted to join the USEA. But then if that were really true, would there be need for war? No! Now, with this new war, they sent how many of our brave men across the border into China? They sent them to their deaths, for not one tank that rolled into the minefield or the trenches and not one soldier that marched into those obstacles survived. Our people have heard the explosions, the terrified screams, our people have seen the metal of the tanks flying back across the border into our country which it originally came from. The war is no longer overseas, far away from our own people. The government cannot lie anymore, because there are now witnesses!
We, the Pacifist Democrats, want to end this war, and end our country's government's murderous policies. Have peace while there is still the chance. How many more of our fathers, husbands, sons, brothers must die before we as a people open our eyes to the terrorism of our own government? When will we have a say in our country's policies? When will democracy reach us as it has reached the Incans, the North Americans, Canadians, Russians, Germans, and many others? Do not believe the government's propaganda, which is already grinding its printing presses to explain away the explosions, shrieks, and flying armor that our own people have heard and seen. Demand your rights! Demand your freedom! Demand peace!"
Lhasa News - August 7th
News from the front! The Russians have pulled back out of the western frontier! However, that area now remains vacant... neither our Tibetan nor the Russian allied forces have ventured in to reclaim it, since it is the most geographically-open and thus vulnerable area in all of Tibet - depending on how one looks at it, this war has abruptly come to either a stalemated, silent stare-down or an unoficial cease-fire.
Meanwhile, in the Indian Ocean, the USEA has occupied the Zulu islands with no resistance at all.
Berlin News - August 8th
A whole month of protesting has just passed. Nationwide protests are occuring still in every major German city except for the Rhineland and Bavaria! The protesters are demanding full withdrawal from Denmark, return of Danish prisoners to their homeland, and punishment of the perpetrators of the inhumanities and their superiors. Among the protesters, half are members or supporters of the communist German Radical Socialist Party, but the other half are supporters of the liberal Social Democratic and Republican Parties. The Swiss and East Prussian Landtag have both condemned the central government and the military, and the national legislature, the Reichstag, has passed a decree forbidding further military action against the people of Denmark and requiring the release of all Danish laborers in Germany.
The Landtag of Bavaria, Rhineland, and West Prussia have each yet to respond, but it is clear that Germany is deeply divided.
Warsaw Reporter - August 19th
The East Prussian and Swiss soldiers serving in the German military - ie, about half of the German armed forces - in Denmark have refused to follow orders to enforce continued deportation of Danes. In Amsterdam, which is a city occupied primarily by East Prussian components of the German Army, the Danes have been permitted to free press and the strict military curfew has been lifted. All the men that were still in the Amsterdam Transit Camp awaiting the trains into Germany have been released by the troops.
Back in Germany, it seems that civil war is brewing as the country has almost completely fragmented. East Prussia, Switzerland, and northern West Prussia including Berlin are predominantly supportive of the Left which is leading the protests and demonstrations.
Radical Socialist slogans are becoming prevalent in the Zurich and Berlin protests, even though it is Social Democrats that control Berlin and northern West Prussia and Republicans that dominate in Switzerland.
In East Prussia, the military, in response to orders from the East Prussian Landtag, has fortified the province's borders and people have volunteered to join the army there, though those volunteers are staying there. Rosa Luxemburg, the famous former leader of the Communists of pre-war Gdansk, long thought to be dead, has also made several speeches in St. Petersburg's Revolution Square, encouraging the people of East Prussia to fight for their rights and end the reign of the capitalists who sent so many Danes to forced labor.
The Fascists of Bavaria and the Conservatives of Rhineland and southern West Prussia are openly opposed to the demonstrations and are encouraging continued action in Denmark.
In Munich, a small group of peaceful demonstrators shouting Republican Party chants has been shot at by the police. 23 people are dead, 40 wounded.
Is it possible that Germany will again disintegrate into several states?
Persepolis News - August 30th
The campaign of the Seasian Pacifist Democratic Party has finally had a great widespread effect! After the loss in the Chinese invasion attempt, the people's morale already sank quite a bit, and a month of campaigning, people have finally risen in mass demonstration and rioting against the dictatorship. The major centers of the insurecitons are Ceylon and southern India, Vietnam, and the Indonesian Islands. A few hundred thousand more soldiers have deserted or joined the ranks of the Pacifist Democrats.
Could this be the dawn of a new age for the people of South-East Asia - an age of democracy?
Tripoli Times - September 10th
Monrovia has been captured by the West African Republican and Mauritanian troops. Cameroon remains in Communist hands, however, and the front there is holding the strongest.
The Zulus in Nubia have been completely defeated.
On the Somalian front, the Zulus have not attempted any offensive to retake the occupied land.
Prague News - September 25th
The French have invaded Germany! With most of the German Army in Denmark, and half of it technically in mutiny, the French armies have been able to penetrate deep into Germany. Switzerland, the Rhineland, and part of West Prussia have been occupied by the French.
In the Rhineland, the conservative Germans tried to fight back, primarily in Cologne, the capital of the German Moderate Right, but their resistance only ended in partial destruction of the southern and western suburbs of the city by French tanks. The labor camps, however, have been liberated, and many of the imprisoned Danes cheered their liberators on as they brought more food with them, feeding the underfed prisoners. In the saddest story, however, the young man whose brutal capture by German troops made international news and died of typhoid fever just 2 days before the French liberated his labor camp. The man who slept near him in the prisoner barracks told the French troops that "the only thing that kept him alive this long was the hope of returning to Denmark", which is what many other prisoners have also said, reporting promises made by the camp guards that if they work well and obey orders, they will be released: a promise that wasn't , and probably would never be, fulfilled. The number of deaths by disease was 9% of the total causes of death as most of the camps had relatively sanitary conditions.
The Swiss protesters have also welcomed the French soldiers. The Landtag passed a decree to distribute land and wealth in Switzerland among the peasants and workers and has ordered all Swiss-born soldiers to either return and regroup in Switzerland, or to wrest control of Denmark from the rightist military.
In the part of West Prussia, reaction has been very mixed in every village and town. Some celebrated as the French entered, others did not show support or opposition, while others screamed obscenities at the foreigners.
Amsterdam Danish News - October 10th
War has again touched Denmark! This time, it is in the name of our liberation! The leftist German troops have liberated more transit camps across Denmark and have permitted us to call a Danish Governing Council to take over before the Government-in-Exile returns. The leftists and rightists are battling even now, but Amsterdam and the southern Danish lands are free! The first Danish Exile troops are landing even now in what used to be Copenhagen and in Amsterdam.
Wilno Chronicle - October 20th
The German Left has declared the establishment of a German People's Republic and has already barred Fascists and Conservatives from participating in any election. The People's Republic is in control of East Prussia, northern West Prussia, and occupied Switzerland and Rhineland. The Government remains in control of Berlin, southern West Prussia, and has allied with Fascist Bavaria.
Moscow Independent News - October 29th
The protests that opposed German aggression have fed into new protests against the Russian atrocities in Ukraine. Reports have flooded the Russian news agencies about the complete and total destruction of Kharkov in a monthlong siege. The Russian people are openly opposing the Russian military's attacks against the Ukrainian people. Anti-war protests are also occurring in opposition to the war against Tibet. Many of Russia's centrist politicians are openly attacking the Government for inhumanity and obstruction of democracy.
Madrid Times - November 3rd
The Italians have gained a beachhead on eastern Spain. However, the battles were fierce and the Spanish managed to destroy the airport before it fell to the Italians. A bombing run was attempted by the Italians and they managed to destroy the biggest runway at the Madrid Airport, but our Spanish Air Force destroyed some of the Bombers.
Madrid Times - November 7th
The Italians managed to capture a bit more of the Mediterranean shore, but again our troops fought harshly and succeeded in preventing the capture of Barcelona.
Jerusalem Times - November 15th
National Councils have formed in Aden (Yemen) and Muscat (Oman) as new independent governments. The Yemeni National Council is dominated by Socialists. The Omani National Council, in contrast, is dominated by a rightist coalition of Fascists and Democratic-Theocrats.
Persia has recognized the Omani government but has not yet recognized those of Arabia and Yemen, though a cease-fire remains in effect.
In the Azerbaijani issue, meanwhile, the Persian government has begun withdrawal of its troops from both North and South Azerbaijan.
Lwow Courier - November 22nd
Ukrainian refugees have begun to come in flight of the Russian persecution. The army of the Ukrainian National Republic continues to battle Russia, and has been psychologically bolstered by the support of Russians of their cause and has been numerically increased by more volunteers. Kharkov and part of the eastern frontier has been lost, as the Ukrainian forces there have been defeated.

Protests across Central Asia intensify further.

Again, some people have not included stats in orders. This is annoying me because I must have said already in 2 posts since the previous update to INCLUDE IT, and, again, it's right in the rules. I may start a zero-tolerance policy with it, and some kind of punishment may be meted out to those who still ignore that rule. If you make things hard for me, I will make things hard for you as well.
Also, if you send orders and forget the stats and send the stats in a separate post... it does not do me any good either, really, because it's exactly like sending me multiple posts of orders - it's inconvenient cuz I got an extra window to look through. Now if your orders are so lengthy that it's absolutely necessary, very well. Just say in the title of the PM or in a note at the second PM that it wouldn't fit cuz of the character limit.
I know some of you may think "oh why does he whine and complain so much?" and some of you may want to tell me to quit b-ing and moaning, but you know what? There are some things which are necessary to remind people about. And if people STILL ignore your reminders, then you're not going to be all nice and everything about it.
Also, YOU CANNOT CHANGE YOUR ORDERS ONCE I BEGIN UPDATING. Let's get that out of the way right now. DO NOT IM me asking "this or that person can't change ordersr any more, right?" or "can I change this or can I cancel that order?" - first of all, it should be clear as day to you all that I am not accepting orders once I begin updating and that I am not accepting changes once I begin updated: that should be obvious already, and I won't even bother going into the reasons for this. Second of all, it interrupts me, since when someone IMs me, the window switches immediately from wherever I'm at to the IM box, and I gotta respond to you telling you. DO NOT IM me asking for spoilers of what's gonna happen to your nation or did this or that work out. Do not even bother, because it gives you an unfair advantage of having that extra hour or so to think about what your strategy should be like to either counter the negative effect or to accentuate the positive effects of the update.
Anyway, I will finish stats tomorrow.
