Stop the Presses!

If anyone has a really good name for the next iteration of RoM & AND, let me know. ;)

RoM + AND = Random  ? just had that thought ...

Would this project have anything to do with the tech tree screenshot with the elemental techs?

Anyway, I hope Civilization 5 modding isn't a huge change from Civ4. I have heard speculation that the reason BTS got so many patches was because they were working off of Civ4's base code for Civ5 and were just keeping us up to date with Civ5 alpha builds. If that's true, it's really good news for modders. If not, we'll manage anyway.
I'm sure they're using Civ 4 code base in Civ 5... why waste perfectly good code - in fact making standalone software modules is probably the best way to code things as you can use once made modules in all your future coding projects with just drag'n'drop (I'm talking about C++, Delphi modules or whatever they are called - I had to make some when I was studying Delphi years ago :crazyeye:).

Anyhooooo... that elemental thingy is one possibility (I liked Might and Magic game almost as much as Civ 1) but I have 2 other project ideas as well that I could make and the other one would fit to Civ 5 game most likely (have to see the modding capabilities first and no, I'm not saying what it's all about ;)) and the other would be more rpg style mod and it would be better to make for some other game like TES 5 or Dragon Age (I'd prefer the Elder Scrolls world since I know its lore and it's game world is easier to mod than in DA, and I already know the scripting language for TES games)...

Besides all, do you guys realize that RoM and AND, as well as hundreds of other mods, modmods etc. is a perfect excuse for Firaxis to NOT beat their brains out when working on CIV 5? All they need to do is to create a basis, a kind of platform on which modders could put whatever they want. Company will get their money no matter what....

I'm not saying that is a bad thing, at least as long as we got great people like Zappara and Afforess (and many others) who are willing to devote their skills and time pro publico bono.
I'm just wondering sometimes, what stays behind such policy of Firaxis:

1. Let's make players happy and let them mod the game as much as they want
2. Let them do our job :)

Anyway, just treat my post as a free thought, not as a Firaxis acusation :)

I personally dont think there was anything wrong with Civ4 vanilla. It was the best game I've ever played. Then came warlords and bts. No need to say that they became the best games IMO. Then I discovered ROM and I was astounded. Never before have I used soooo many hours and being entertained so well by a game. It even set new boundaries for the ultimate game most of us gamers are looking for. I certainly hope the Civ5 devteam had a good look in the civfanatics mod database. Then civ5 will become the last game I'll ever play (with zapparas mod ofcourse).

Yeah i used to play ALL the HEROES of Might and Magic games, SpellForce , Age of Empires, Rise of Nations, Warlords, Final Fantasy (only the first IV), WarHammer, StarCraft, and of course WarCraft (not the online games, dont like them). I HATE:mad: First Shooter games with a passion.

The ONLY game i buy now is Civilization and its Expansions (PERIOD).

The only final fantasy worth playing was VII, which was rated the best one by most players. Starcraft and Warcraft battle.net gameplay are awfully similar to each other, the only difference between them is the graphical theme. And why do you hate first person shooters? they're not that bad.

Those and any vehicle simulation game (like a racecar or airplane game) give me motion sickness. Thus I tend to stay away from those types of games.

Then play on a smaller screen? :D I really don't get the how or why of motion sickness and claustrophobia... I guess I'm just lucky

It doesn't make me claustrophobic.

As for motion sickness its how the screen moves. Making it smaller would not help. However having top down games helps. For me ...

1st Person View = Motion Sickness
3rd Person View Tracking Avatar = Almost Never Motion Sickness
3rd Person Free Camera View = Almost Never Motion Sickness
Side Scroll View = Never
Fixed 2D View = Never

I wonder what would happen if i wore VR goggles. Would it make me sick or have no effect.

Oh, I agree with you 100%. CIV IV vanilla was great, but it was THEN. Lately I was forced to come back to play basic version (wanted to play some MP games with my brother, he is a newbie and wanted to play vanilla first) and I can tell you that I felt like using my Celeron 333 MHz again :) However, in 1999 I was extremely happy to have my first PC.

I HATE First Shooter games with a passion.

Your nick says everything :D I used to be more diversified player. It was before my daughter was born. Now I hardly can find some time to play RoM/AND and Championship Manager (of course the best edition - 2001/2002 ) The best FPS is Call of Duty series. I remember sitting in a dark room, with all possible audio effects on..... Felt like I was really in the battlefield. Quite intense feeling.

I think that PC games have sth to do with the movies we choose to watch. Sometimes you want Lynch, and sometimes you just want Gladiator :)

As for other games I can mention Commandos series and Cossacks as the titles which sucked significant portion of my lifetime out

A Celeron 400 was my first computer too :P

ahahaha my first computer was, now get this, you needed a punch card that you feed into a machine(IBM)(machine was 6' by 4 ') that placed holes in a certain area, and you could only do one area at a time,

Then it was a floppy disk that was 8" by 11" or something close to that.:p

Then play on a smaller screen? :D

My monitor is a Dell LCD 30" (Plus i have a 50" Plasma that i could set-up also, cause it has a PC slot open.) Nobody should play on anything smaller, i just cant see it.

My father once had a summer job (when he was much younger) which involving feeding computer tape into a machine and receiving the results two weeks later :D

You lucky Americans ;) What we buy in Poland as a "newest technology" (and have to pay for it like it was made from gold) you Americans already put on "garage sell"

I bought an Iiyama prolite LCD 22" and paid around 240 USD for it. I believe in US, such monitor would be treated as out of date , and put in a big basket in Wallmart with a "90% off" sign

And in NZ, our latest computer and internet technology consist of whatever the Pacific deigns to wash up on our shores

I always though Australian computers were run by bandicoots an numbats running on hamster wheels inside them.

EDIT: Oh wait your from New Zealand, they must be run on Kiwis or maybe Sheep. :P

Thx Guys, i needed that laugh, its been a rough week, month, heck year

How technology has changed, eh Strategy? :P

Try Mass Effect 2 - at this moment it's probably best game available on the market. It's not FPS game since the camera angle is behind character and there's of course rpg elements and excellent story... and the npc characters... oh my!!! ;)

Also if you think about FPS games, Bioshock 2 was just released... I get chills when just thinking about that game. I do enjoy some FPS games but I do require open game world, alternative paths and freedom to do things at my own pace, not some piperun levels like in most FPS games. Perhaps this was one reason why I led MMO guild (about 100 active members) for about year some years ago and made friends all around the globe. :)

From strategy games I played Civ 1 over and over again (on Amiga) before some of you guys were even borned! 18.. or is it 19 years now that I've enjoyed Sid Meier's civ games. That's pretty long time, over half of my life. :) Now more recently I've played quite a lot of Total War games and as seen in RoM, I've used some elements from those games, though I haven't played Total War: Empire yet and I think they are soon releasing Total War: Napoleon... I'll have to get those games so that I can "steal" some ideas from them for Civ 5 mods... ;)
