Strategic View!! Screenshots!

And for what it's worth, a Harbor appears to cost 80 Hammers, assuming normal game speed, map size, etc. Probably not worth adding or even thinking about.

Edit: That looks like The Colossus, the last icon in Bronze Working.

Math!

Which reminds me, I need to plaster "game in development, stuff likely to change" disclaimers everywhere.

As to the "starburst" icons, I'd guess these are special abilities. Things like "Writing: Can now trade maps" or "Civil Service: irrigation now spreads fresh water to adjacent tiles."

Edit: I agree, I'm assuming that's the Colossus.

Here's a few other notes (taken from these screenshots and general observation):
Acoustics: Middle Icon is definitely the Sistine Chapel (it's the two hands meeting)
Banking: Second one is probably the Forbidden Palace (reference real pictures)
Education: Second icon is probably Oxford.

Could it be a whip?
Hehe, maybe. "Produce this now or I beat you with stick!"

But all of other the white-icon-with-no-circle items are Worker improvements, so I think it has to be something a worker can do.

edit: I was over at the 2K forums and noticed that they had several Civ V images being used for their forum categories.

Thanks bj, definitely right about Sistine Chapel.

Mathalamus: might not be a requirement, might be either-or prerequisite with The Wheel. Guess it could be argued that long-range archery involves ballistics, which is getting into math.

Maybe there are "or" requirements, but there is no special indication of that on show in the tech tree, and on the far left of the bit that is visible Printing Press can't be researched although Physics one of prerequisites is know but Machinery, the other prerequisite isn't. Same for Chivalry. That seems to suggest "and" requirements only.

I think Archery is needed for Mathematics mostly for gameplay reasons, i.e. no more dead end techs.

every laptop, even old ones have hundreds of gigabytes. at least.
My 3 year old laptop has 120 GB and my GF's modern laptop has an 80 GB SDD, so no, not all laptops have 100s of GB's now.

Moreover, a decade ago almost all games had a "minimal" install option where you could e.g. run the videos from the CD instead of copying all that to the hard drive. Now every game just seems to have only a maximum install. When installing C&C3 onto my laptop, the game ran perfectly aftere I deleted about 3 GB worth of movies, but the game wouldn't allow me to install me first expending the space to copy them.

@AriochIV: Love your Analyst page! Noticed that you didn't have the icon for Cows; I think they are shown in the Middle Age screen shot - there is one east of Corinth. Also, in the same screen shot there is confirmation of the marble/quarry improvement (3xSW, 2xW of Argos).

In that same image there are two tiles with unique art: the geyser (Old Faithful?) just above the "NEXT TURN" bar; and the marsh/lake w/ island tile 2 east from Argos.

Again, in the Middle Age screen shot, there are two resources in the lower left near Kufah which I cannot identify: the square white-ish one in the hills (SE and 2xW of Kufah); and the brownish one (W NW of Kufah). The latter is improved with a plantation - wine or spices, maybe?

Also of note: Trading Posts can built in hills and marshes (Vienna, Kufah); farms can be built in hills and marshes, too (Vienna, Argos) - a little more flexible than Civ IV.

Just noticed your sig, Arioch. Assuming you did the accumulating of information that's excellent work and a very informative read. The high-res TechTree image confirms the mystery tile-improvement from the third screen to indeed be a Lumbermill (in Engineering, sorry if it's already been mentioned).

Two questions:
1) Mining, Bronze Working, and Masonry. Assuming those are two Axe icons and a Sword icon and that two of them unlock Clear Forest/Jungle.. what would the mining Axe be?
2) What are the stars in some of the techs? i.e. Optics, Philosophy

Sword = Jungle chopping
Axe 1 = Forest Chopping
Axe 2 = Improved Forest chopping

Or maybe the one of them has to do with clearing swamps.

Thanks, Thyrwyn. I had noticed the resource icons in the Middle screen, but they were so small that I left them out. I've since added most of them in. You're right about the quarry.

I noticed the geyser... I'm excited about the Natural Wonders... nice to have a completely new mechanic in the game. The lake with the island is intriguing. I suppose I'll eventually get around to adding a Terrain page. :D

The white-ish resource in the hills is Sheep. I'm not sure what the brown one is, but I think one of your two guesses is probably correct.

edit: The "lake with island" east of Argos is probably an Oasis. It's in desert with a river next to it. The watery terrain items near it are surely Flood Plains.

Yes, I think that must be what the "staff" icon is: swamp/marsh clearing. Looking at the three maps, I don't see any case of a swamp with an improvement on it. In the Early map, there is a swamp south of Kyoto with a Sugar resource but no improvement. In the Late map, the swamp is gone, and a Plantation has been built.

Not really replying to anything. Just wanted to say I appreciate the work you put into the Civ V Analyst site linked in your sig! It's really well done, and IMO gives more actual information in one place than even the CiV site itself.

So, a hearty THANK YOU goes out to you for your effort!

I also wish to say :goodjob: and thanks for the site

Glad you guys found it useful. I had fun putting it together.

It certainly was useful, thanks. Seen as a whole, I didn't the artwork was all that spectacular, but now I'm beginning to seriously consider upgrading my rig to see all the terrain, units and art deco style icons in their full glory.
