Subdued Animals in C2C discussions

Here is a beluga. Please make it polar and northern hemisphere. Thanks!

I would recommend considering Giant Sloths for a popular animal that goes extinct that was around recently. If a 3d model could be found/made.

They disappeared relatively recently, are pretty interesting animals, and could possibly be still around; there apparently have been lots of possible sighting throughout South America.

For a time we had a Megatherium Trainer. However since we never found a model for it it got converted into a Megatherium Hunter's Camp. I also have other prehisotic animal hunting camps such as the Diprotodon (Giant Wombat), Giant Bison, Megaloceros (Giant Deer) and Woolly Rhino.

There were all of those in Zoo Tycoon 2 however the models are compressed so you cannot get their meshes. The marine animals were too however I found a website that had the meshes extracted from the beta. Otherwise they would not have been available either.

So the only choices left are finding mod made animals if we want anything prehistoric. Which some do exist. I just have to find them and see if they have usable models. I have a lot of downloaded animals over the years so I may have something.

Have you already tried to rename the archive files to .zip and unzip them? This works for some games.

Its not that kind of thing. Their ZT2 file works with zip but these are files inside that. Apparently even the modders of ZT2 could not solve this so there are a few prehistoric animals that they just cannot mod. There was a bonus pack called "Dino Danger Pack" which was released before the main prehistoric themed expansion pack. It had 4 dinosaurs but no ice age megafauna. Thus they were able to extract things like T-Rex and Triceratops, since it was done before the new compression method was implemented. But that's Microsoft for ya.

Were or weren't able to extract those? :mischief:

Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Styracosaurus and Carnotaurus were all extracted by the ZT2 modders. I however do not have those models since I never bought that bonus pack since those eventually got added to the Extinct Animals XP (in compressed form).

I'll see what I can do. :mischief:

By the way, it looked like Oblivion models were of the same or similar format. Have you looked into those at all?

I´ve seen some strange things with subdued Orcas and hammerhead sharks in my current game (SVN 945, I think):

- They can get woodsmen promotion (besides others like dessert combat)
- They can travel across ocean, even in ancient times

You don't think animals should be able to enter oceans in the Ancient Era?? :crazyeye:

Hmm. Good point. The animals can though would a captured water living animal really go where you pointed him across an ocean if you didn't lead him there? I think you'd have just lost a subdued water dweller.

Though it IS taken care of as in they can't reveal unexplored territory, isn't it? So you can't send them out to explore anyway.

Cheers

I forgot about the reveal unexplored territory until yesterday. I did post a patch to the SVN. ;)

I probably should put the can't travel oceans until the player can in also.

Aahh... SUBDUED animals... yeah... that's a different story I guess...

Speaking of which, was the code ever corrected so that subdued animals always start in the tile where combat takes place? It's so annoying when an animal attacks, I subdue it, and then some other animal attacks the wounded creature on the tile it started from.

Also wondering how that will affect ocean critters if they start subdued on ocean when they aren't supposed to enter it.

That last part is not a problem. Heck, even Crocs spawn on ocean plots (with a fish resource) and just move from there to the coast. It's not being in or moving from that counts, it's moving to.

Combat placement of subdued animals that attacked you, that I would like to see too.

Cheers

It is back to the better one, it places them in the wrong place a lot less frequently. Now it only does it when it is the animal you really really need back home.:mischief: In my last game it was bears, I could not capture and keep one!

There is a bit of code somewhere which does what we want I will have to hunt it up.

Hah! Yeah, it happened to me with Wolves. They didn't want me setting up those kennels! :)
