Subdued Animals in C2C discussions

When looking at Manta Ray (just as soon as manta ray should be visible), a HUGE red circle appears on the screen instead of model.
A circle is in size of some screens. (at least on my WinXP x64 @ directx 9.0c)

No manta = no red madness.

Also with added new animals, number of random CTDs by d3d9.dll is increased (1GB video RAM isn't enough?)
Have latest ATI video drivers.

The same thing happened to me this morning only with the cassowary. One huge red blob. Closing the game and clearing the cache worked for me but I think we may be coming to the end...!

This is very weird. In game the zebra is normal sized but in the civpedia it is HUGE! Not really a problem but just weird.

Also the Dolphin, Manta Ray and Beluga Whale (and subdued versions) are all missing their icon/buttons.

All subdued units use the same art as their non-subdued counterpart. Maybe it was a bad upload to the SVN. I'll do them again after checking to be sure.

Thank you for getting the animals I looted from ZT2 to work. Its so awesome to see the oceans teaming with life. it was so boring seeing just saltwater crocs for so long. It makes the world seem alive now. So thank you. :worship:

You are welcome. Do you like the Ibex Chariot I looted from somewhere? It takes about 2 hours each to merge and test. More if I need to make buildings. I have just finished the bovines, deer and antelope (and where they play:mischief:). Will post soon, just one more test.

I haven't read through this whole thread from the beginning, so forgive me if this issue has been mentioned before.

Is there some problem with the AI knowing what to do with these subdued animals when they have no buildings that can be built? The reason I ask is I just met the Russians in my game and their whole army consisted of one Slinger and a slew of animals.

I suggest the AI do as I do and delete these units if they have no immediate use for them.

I don't EVER delete an animal... too useful once carnivals come along. More buildings for animals get unlocked. I also feel we should have some further elements when zoos are introduced but that's latergame era polishing we haven't gotten to yet.

1. Although there are buildings representing poultry farming, I think chickens and ducks are also qualified to be units. Resource may be better considering Rabbits, though.

2. How about making Herd building available for subdued flightless birds? People hunted them for food for a long time. (Well, people even made them extinct.)

3. Subdued Hawk should be able to build Falconer or some kind of building like hunting ground so that Falconer can have it as prerequisite instead of Wine resource in vicinity.

But cost from those animals can make AIs bankrupt and slow their research. Keeping them is not always good (especially for AI).
Do AIs use animals for Myth buildings? They didn't before. I think they should prioritize Myth buildings if they already researched oral tradition.

Yes, it very cool looking! Too bad we don't have a deer chariot. That would be cool.

Since the Carnival eventually goes obsolete what if the "cage" buildings required a Carnival OR Zoo? That way you could keep al your cage buildings even after the carnival goes obsolete.

Maybe change their name to "Cage - Wolf" instead of "Carnival - Wolf Cage" so it would not matter if it was for a Carnival or a Zoo.

Completely agree with the above! (both comments ;) )

Plus: I had a thought about how 'harmless' animals could be expressed. I understand that we have trouble there in that creatures really have a minimum of 1 power, right? Make it 0 and we have a creature that can't fight enough to even retreat (a worker type basically.) But if we create a 'promotion' called 'harmless' that gives -90% power, we could have an answer to this.

I love the idea of chickens, ducks, even turkeys as being resources as well as map creatures. (if possible... how are we doing on that resource limitation issue?)

I was also thinking... what if we removed all the animals from the resources lists and made their spawn improvements replace them as static map resources entirely? Wouldn't that make a bit more sense anyhow? Sure there WERE lots of bison in North America...

1. No more resources can be in game yet. We have reached the limit for now.

2. I am not against the idea, after all they are just chickens only larger. :mischief:

3. I just tested a subdued hawk/eagle building the Falconer. It would only do so where wine was. maybe I should talk to Hydromancerx about changing the building to be built by the subdued eagle or hawk but require a master hunter or noble building of some kind. Falconry was popular in the stone age/early metal age. Chieftain's hut maybe?

I am working on a Water Buffalo herd and worker at the moment. The worker will be the same as its mule/elephant counterpart.

There are always animals around when you need them; no use spending money on saving them. The AI MUST ditch these animals; they ARE dragging their research into the toilet.

The best solution would be the option to get the food and hammers that you would have received had you killed the animal instead of subduing it. Then the AI would have something to do with these animals instead of turning their scientists into zoo keepers.

Yes, yes, I am working on it. It requires that I figure out how to not break multi player games.

What way did you try it that broke multiplayer?

If it is a python mission you have to send messages to everyone that a player has done something. It is not necessary if it is not a python message. You have to do it when a human player gets an imagrant to join a city or when a human player selects from a list in an event.
