Subdued Animals in C2C discussions

I would just think that there's going to be yummy easy gimme hunts out there mixed in with some really fearsome and dangerous predators making the hunt not so perfectly safe. I'd prefer that to being henpecked to death by tons of what should be mostly harmless fauna.

Edit: The cobra gives this, I think, because it has a pretty killer amount of first strike power. You may notice that the way that works is that if the game thinks your unit should have lost the battle, it tends to award a free promo when it makes it through against the odds. The cobra is a bit unusual in its design and it fakes out the free promo system as a result. I think its also getting benes from cobras when the cobra ATTACKS. If it wasn't for the limit on how much damage the cobra could do before it forces the cobra to withdraw, most units surviving battles with the serpents would die instead.

The code is supposed to be putting the subdued unit in the same plot as the subduing unit and giving you a free movement just in case it doesn't! I'll get someone else to look at the code as it must be a simple mistake on my part.

It works around maybe 1 time out of 10-20 that when the animal is attacking and then captured that it end at the place of my unit it have attacked. The other times the subdued unit is at the place where it started its attack what resoult that the animals in range that not moved so fare immediatly attack it and kill it.
When I attack a animal with a unit the captured allways end at the same place where my unit is after the attack.

I have already decided that many animals will not have a subdued version. Or that the chances of capturing them needs to be adjusted.

I've noticed that the bear and the jaguar seem to have a higher chance of being captured. In one game, EVERY time a jag or bear attacked, I subdued them, no matter what unit I used. Most animals seem not to do this.

The chance of capture is based only on the unit doing the capture. However I have noticed that if you really want the unit subdued you wont.:mischief:

And vice versa. I didn't want all those bears/jags, but I got them.

As requested - Subdued land units will only become a resource if there is no resource of the same type in a neighbouring plot. Sea units will if there is one of less in neigbouring plots.

Which can you not subdue? Because it would be nice to have some more choices for carnival/zoo buildings. (Ex. Marsupial Enclosure)

------

On a side note I would really like to get some of the animals spawning in the more specific zones; Old World Northern Hemisphere (Eurasia), Old World Southern Hemisphere (Africa), New World Northern Hemisphere (Americas) and/or New World Southern Hemisphere (Oceania).

You can't subdue the ones I have not gotten round to. Basically anything in a folder in z_experimental with the animal name as the folder name and Oceania. they may also have bad spawn and terrain movement stuff also. I had a swarm of rock hopper penguins attacking from the desert in my last game.

I am working on fixing the sea animal myths for the case where your capital is not on the coast. ;)

Not entirely realistic maybe, but gameplay wise I prefer them fairly strong. Otherwise hunting is too automatic as are all the benefits that flow from it. I would prefer to control density if we need to tone down, rather than (wi some exceptions to be sure - can't rally disagree with you on, say, ducks) strength.

OK, I have been playing a bit with some "Completely Harmless" creatures - duck and pheasant to stat with. I think that they should not provide xp or points towards a great general. In fact I think this should be true of all the creatures with below normal strength.

Just noticed that the "cow" does not conform to the move to save tile where your unit is, but rather stay's where it was subdued and POOF another animal comes along and attacks it and its gone.

At last someone of the team expirienced it also! As reported above for me its only around 1 of 10 -20 times have a attacking animal that is subdued end at the the field of the unit it have attacked.

As I have repeatedly said I need someone to look into that bit of code because as far as I can see it should put all animals that have been subdued in the same plot as the unit doing the subduing. Lines 472 to 477 of subdueanimals.py.

Thanks strategyonly and Sorry Dancing Hoskuld but I was understanding the answear you gave me in my last report like "If this bug is confirmed I will forward it to our coder that they will have a look".

That probably wont help as there is nothing wrong with the code. It is the logic that is wrong. Plus some background is needed.

It was probably one of those days when I answered, sorry. Yes I am the coder of that bit of code.

I have merged the new animals from v18 into Subdue Animals some need to now be merged into the core files.

New Animals. None of the new animals can be subdued yet and their spawn rates need looking at. ;)

New hunters and I may have fixed the "wolf problem" as I was looking at the wrong art definition before.

They don't really contribute a whole lot in the grand scheme of things though. Especially if we ever get them an AI to avoid human units.
