Subdued Animals in C2C discussions

My wanderers always die in their first combat so I gave up building them. I use scouts until I can build trackers.

Same here, i dont build wanderers or chasers.

That is an interesting idea that they kamikaze themselves if you use them in battle. That could possibly work. However that still means they can be used for goodie huts. I suppose we could always make them so they get horrible results from goodie huts. So one would not want to use them for that purpose.

Its also semi-realistic too. If I sent a lion to a village I don't think the villagers would be too happy with me (unless they worshiped lions :p ).

So give the Subdued Combat Class a severe penalty for goody hut results and make them kamikazee? Makes sense to me. I think that's a good solution all around. The ai should be reluctant to use the birds this way and clever players should too unless they want to just take the ones the ai would get right off their hands.

But it had to be mentioned that animals gives really bad results!

Also, another idea would be to take away thy flying ability from subdued brids until you reach Poultry Domestication or Falconry. Before that, animals are caged or tied up. And after you know how to handle birds, you could use them as spies. This would also take away the Island Goody Hut problem since rafts come earlier than Poultry Dom.

You would be better off having it able to upgrade into a scouting Bird unit at Falconry tech. Rather than having the ability on the subdued bird.

Could you do it with a promotion that is handed out free to birds when they go into a city? We could have a "Bird Trainer" building as a prequel to Falconer, that gives birds a free "trained" Promotion. This promotion can change their CC (IIRC).

Bird Trainer -> Falconer -> Falconry School

Edit: Oh, actually I'd much more prefer Hydro's solution :greatjob:

Thanks! :king:

Just another idea: Is it actually possible give land units the "Air Recon" mission? We could have a Falconer unit (or use Hunter / Scouts) that can perform Air Recon missions (1 plot range) at Falconry if it has a bird (you could recycle the "lead by warlord" mission for that).

It's always going to be a bad idea to mix air missions with land units for numerous reasons, an unavoidably ridiculous animation display not being the worst of it.

But we did have hunters acting as carriers for bird units about 20 versions ago. There were a number of reasons we stopped doing this, most of which I could probably address now so it shouldn't be out of the question to eventually re-introduce the concept.

Are you sure about that?? :mischief:

Must be because they didn't have their trusty Wolf with them...;)

Yeah, now run into a str 3 pr 4 or 5 once and see, and poof GONE!!:p

With 34XP in the field you can't seriously think he hasn't met a strength 3. As it happens, (before I lost count) he killed a Ratel, subdued a Brown Bear and survived a Rhino (the poor Wolf was evidently seldom called upon...:p).

I like the lady archer better ;)

OK i will make a print for you with your name on it and the female one, hows that:p:rolleyes: and make all other ones with male names and female with female.

The name of the picture file has to match exactly the name of the hunter or the displaying mod does not work. Which is why we can't translate the names of the Great People.

@DH

I finally found a good Malaysian Tapir mode. So here you go.

Note they live in the tropics southeast Asia.

In addition can you rename the existing Tapir to "Baird's Tapir" and limit its range to the jungles of Central America and northern South America?

Thanks! :goodjob:

Oh also I am trying to get the Mountain Tapir and Brazilian Tapir made so we cover all the types. :)
