Subdued Animals in C2C discussions

So I was thinking

Not useful

Very useful
Could the hammer return not be classified by the same category type where we define Mammal, Bird, Reptile etc...?

I was thinking it would be, for both, a size * Class equation. For example, Birds could have a .75 base food, .5 base hammers, then multiply that by the numeric equivalent of the size category, thus a Medium (5) size category bird (roughly the size of an Ostrich perhaps) would be 3(rounding down the .75 remainder) food, 2(rounding down the .5) hammers. A pigeon (Tiny Bird) would be 2 food, 1 hammer after rounding.

A Mammal could be 1 food, 1 hammers per size category. Etc...

This would work for the 'usefulness' category could it not?

We could even add tags for you to work with in the Combat Class class. They wouldn't need ai or display, just reporting to python and be a float value so it'd have decimal capacity. Would be quite easy.

Not all animals are equal by size and type. After you have eaten the small fish you have ready made needles and with a bit of work drills. The bones of larger fish are not as useful. The antlers of deer are ready made picks for digging and construction. Later deer and cow horn make good spoons and such but horses don't have extra bits that are useful, all three have their hides.

I don't know I think I a coming down with another cold - it almost a constant state of affairs at the moment as we change from summer to winter.

Then the more specific CCs that categorize animals by finer details than class would play into the picture to adjust the base, right? So, for example, Cervids (deer) would give a +1 Hammers to the base hammers in that equation.

I do not know which tech did it, but now the subdued sea creatures, Tales of (xxx), are worse than useless. I can no longer sacrifice them for culture science and money, I cannot send them out to explore (as such) because they have a zero combat and die in any attack. If I delete them it costs me 1 gold just to delete, not +1, but MINUS ONE.
Why can I not sacrifice them any more?

You never could sacrifice Tales of sea creatures. You could only use them to build buildings some of which are possible in every city. I think you can also use them for science but I have not checked recently. Either way they have not changed since they were introduced.

As with any unit with 0 production cost, you get -1 gold from deleting them within your territory, but nothing outside it, just as you don't get a gold boost for deleting units with a production cost if they're outside your territory.

When did wild animals start getting XP promotions?

An Elephant with +10% Str and +20% Melee, really!??

Why was this thought to be necessary?

V26 if I remember correctly. May have been v25 or earlier. People were complaining about them being too easy to beat. Now that you have reminded me that they can get promotions I may see if I can get the "aging animals" mod back in the game so that animals have a bit more chance of surviving those Big game hunters.

Why not? Animals who've survived numerous battles should be pretty fierce, should they not? How can that be bad for gameplay?

I agree, your not going to go up to an Elephant and "club" them before you get hurt if not killed yourself first, or am i missing something here?

I guess I had not noticed because I had not lost 3 units to an Elephant before. I got a Spiked Club with enough Promos to take that elephant out eventually. But didn't subdue him, drat!

I'm having a hard time lately getting enough animals that will allow Master Hunter Lodge thingy. Speckled Bears do not give it and that's the only bear I keep seeing. Maybe the Spec bear should? What say you DH? Or is the Spec bear the Fozzy bear of the bear kingdom? And a cut below kermit and miss piggy?

Here is the topic if you want to continue the discussion on it.

Actually Paddington Bear is a Spectacled Bear.

Yeah the other bears dont show up hardly at all, i believe it should be the other way around, at least in this neck of the woods, (well at least WAY up north that is) is Grizzly Bears.

Would seem then that the Spec bear's name is Paddington and is a wee small bear. Maybe not so big a hunt after all.

Miss piggy is rare in the jungle nowadays too. But kermity the dart frog is everywhere!

I do have to redo the lot in some ways because the old ones did not get balanced with the new. About half the bears can make hunting lodge - I am seeing an over abundance of Moon Bears in my current game but no pigeons!

The pigeons show up after the toucans and hawks have been hunted awhile. Like a second spawn wave with a couple of eagles thrown in too. Starting Map placement on PM really dictates what you're going to see. The standard maps are sometimes better at spawn overall balance imo.
