SuBI1 - Masters of the high seas

How about a picture for the person who is temporarly conquest deprived?

:lol: Yeah, where's our golden age?

Great job. You took our iron back. Woohoo! Let's just hope it doesn't flip again. The Byzantines have Feudalism now... ouch. Time to build up to get ready to attack in 20 and push the front north.

Shoguntaka has some nice ideas. I agree its important for us to push our advantage while we can. Sun Tzu may take away from that, even though it would be beneficial to have to help in our new cities. I guess its a team decision. We do need to push our FP out sometime soon too. With Conquests, how beneficial will the FP be in the Byzantine capital? Its quite a ways away and I don't remember it being a very strong site - little production. We can probably push it a bit south, maybe in Man'po region. Just a thought.

Anyhow, I got it! I probably won't finish until tomorrow night, so keep the ideas coming... The reign of SpikeIt's about to begin!! I'm thinking build up some MI's and try and boost our economy somewhat.

Hmmmm,

good analysis ShogunTaka.

I think you're probably right.

20 Swordsmen would rock. Especially as they have no iron at the moment, therefore only spearmen. Hold though, we're only able to build MDI now that we have Feudalism. Anyways, we should consider building horsemen then doing a mass upgrade when we get to Chivalry. They won't be able to cope with that...

Sorry about the lack of screenshots. I'll see if I can do some tonight.

Seoul will grow in 3 turns. After that, it will be able to produce 20 shields, meaning we can build MDI every other turn! :eek: Seoul has already invested a lot of shields in the Sun Tzu's War Academy, and we don't want to waste this whole lot of sheilds. So, why not switch Seoul's production to Cathderal? (this will greatly help Seoul with its unhappiness problem). After that, let's pump MDI every other turn! Also, there's an elite warrior at farflung land. Let's upgrade him to MDI, and start using him against the Byzantines and hopefully generate a Military Great Leader out of him.

With this much power, we will crush the Byzantines easily.

Let's sail this elite warrior to our capital and upgrade him!

Hmmmm, MDI every two turns :)

Cathedral's a good idea, keep those people happy whilst we send their young men away to their deaths on the Byzantine Northlands (sorry, that was Civ 2 rules.)

Just one point about upgrading the warrior, is that when you upgrade, he'll become a veteran again.

There is a grasslands 2SW of Seoul which could be worked on, though it won't give us two shields. 20 spt at this stage rocks!

Thanks for the screenshots by the way, it would have been a while before I had the chance to do some.

I think we should knock out the Byzantines ASAP before they:

a) give us education from GLib.
b) get iron from one of their colonies once they get Astronomy.

Then we can get out Lighthouse back...

An unusual practice by any stretch, Wang Kon again circulates the head advisory post among his most trusted of staff. Starting in 440 AD, Wang Kon called again upon the Minister of Forestry, SpikeIt to lead the Korean people, fresh off a hard fought war to reclaim glory and iron. SpikeIt is no tree hugger for sure as he's best known for the settlement and clearing of the vast rain forests to Seoul's north. But no matter, as SpikeIt is ready to reinforce the Korean army for another battle with Theodora.

[0]440AD
Give Hannibal Currency for 2gpt and 6 gold. He's the only to lack. Seoul switched to Cathedral. Dutch deal for luxes will end in 2 turns. MM a few clowns to taxmen - no research! Upgrades to MDI from warrior will cost 90 gold! Build a bit of defense.
Upgrade vet spear to pike in Inch'on. Upgrade 2nd for northern reinforcement.

IBT...
Byz sword moves south.
Wonsan rax -> MDI

IBT...
Byz troops continue south. Where are they going? Spanish call our ship a hobo! :lol:
Pyongyang pikeman -> MDI.
Jeju worker -> courthouse.
Taejon pikeman -> MDI

Lost both Incense and silks! Getting them back is going to cost a fortune! Its a bit annoying that our only trading partner is the hated Dutch!

[2]460AD
At the moment its cheaper to play the lux slider than to trade for our luxes back.
Aah. Goody hut gives us... angry barbs. Ugh.

IBT...
Some enemy troop movement, Byz troops continue downward.
Paegam spearman -> courthouse

[3]470AD
Trade our only spices, 18gpt, 33 gold to Dutch for Incense, silks, and ROP. We'll connect more spices in a turn or two. Giving our spices cut about 8 gpt off the total price.
Upgrade another spear to pike.

IBT...
Dutch sign Spain to MA against Byzantine!
Pusan pike -> MDI
Taegu worker -> Library
Dutch are building Sun Tzu (again?).

[4]480AD

IBT...
Watch a droman bombard a Dutch city...
Seoul MDI -> MDI
Dutch start Sistine Chapel

[9]530AD
Byzantine archer disappeared - Theodora must be broke! :lol:
The Dutch have Education now...

IBT...
Pusan MDI -> Horse
Ulsan pike -> Horse

Not a very inspired turn. Byz sword is still roaming our lands so we might be able to force war. No research was done. Dutch are up one tech - Education. Still hoping for research on bottom path. Byz still don't have iron or horses, we now have 12 pikes and 11 MDI's to go with our horses. I started a few marketplaces to help with happiness and gold. And we mined some mountains to boost some production.

SpikeIt heads back to the jungle, his home, knowing that he has built up yet again the start of an army to conquer the Byzantine barbarians to the north.

Koreans!

Nice work dude.

Not really much to do after a war I suppose. I was lucky to have the interesting turns. Bit of a worry that Dutch have education, since we'll probably get it soon...

Nice work on the cathedral. Seoul is getting to be awesomely productive. Bring on the hammer...

Soon we'll be powerful enough to knock the Byzantines back a few ages. Then it's the turn of the Dutch...

Yeah, the Dutch getting Education didn't really thrill me. Everyone who is advanced seems to be researching down the Education path. Let's just cross our fingers that we'll be able to pick up Chivalry or Invention before we acquire Education.

Oh. Just an FYI. I have a horse and spear fortified on the hill next to the barb camp in our far south. Every turn I've been waking up the horse to attack and kill another barb unit. My mini war! :lol: You may want to keep this up. There be gold in them thar hills!

I changed some of the cities' production:

Manp'O: Pikeman --> trebuchet (we don't want any regular pikemen running around, but trebuchet w/o barracks is good, because it doesn't need a barracks)

Go Horsie Go! -> did same as Manp'O

Inch'On: Since we have iron hooked up and have feudalism, we don't need these weak horsemen, horseman -> MDI

SpikeIt's Home: same as Manp'O & Go Horsie Go!

Wonsan: Because it's a coastal cities and its raking many commerce, so let's get a marketplace to increase its richness! MDI ---> marketplace

The Korean Panama: Unlike Wonsan, it's not getting enough commerce, maybe later when it's size 6+ and making 10+ uncorrupted commerce, we can build a marketplace in it. but it's pretty productive city and should be building galleys or units soon. Marketplace -> barracks

Chinje: Let's take advantage of our scientific trait: temple -> library

Ulsas: horseman -> Pikeman (we need few more pikemen for the war front)

I politely asked the dastardly Byzantines to remove its suspicious wandering swordmen too close to our capital, she foolishly refused and declared war! :thanx:

I cash-rushed the trebuchet at Manp'O

[IBT]

Suwan: worker -> worker
Manp'O: trebuchet -> trebuchet

Our people loves us, so they decided to build a third floor for the King! And the King was generous enough to offer me a bedroom at that floor :D

[1]
Now the war starts:

The trebuchet smashed the invading archer down by -1 hp.
elite horsemen finsihed it off with -2hp
MDI vs. archer, Won
I destroyed the wandering swordmen that I was demanding to leave with a MDI but suffered -1 HP
We are able to match Byzantines in the seafaring power! My galley sank their dromon and promoted to elite! We sure showed them!

[IBT]

The Great Library showed us the secret of both Inventino and... guess what? Education :eek:

I lost a MDI to an invading swordmen, I forgot to protect him with other units :(

Inch'On: MDI -> MDI
Haeju: spear -> worker

[2]

Cash-rushed a trebuchet at Go Horsie Go! city.
Horsemen vs. archer, won with -1hp
Horsemen vs. swordman, won with -1hp

[IBT]

Spike's home: trebuchet -> trebuchet
Ulsas: pikeman -> pikeman
Sariwan rioted: I gave it a taxman
Go Horse Go!: trebuchet -> trebuchet
The Dutch is now building Leo's Workshop
The archer destroyed our spice colony :(
and several big cities (including Taejon) rioted, whoops.

[3]

I sold Invention to the Spaniards for 60g and 2gpt,
and to Carthaginians for same 60g and 2gpt

I cash-rushed another trebuchet at Go Horsie Go!

The Battle of Trebizond:
horseman vs. spearman, lost but did 2 hps dmg to the spearman
horseman vs spearman, lost again but did 2hps damge to another spearman
elite horsemen vs dying spearman, won -1 hp but no MGL :(
then captured it with 2 more MDI's

[IBT]

The Dutch and Byzantines signed a peacy treaty.
The Byzance swordmen attacked a fotified pikemen on hill and won
:rolleyes: but it is redlined now.

[4]

The Battle of Naissus
MDI vs Spearmen, won -2 hp
MDI vs spearman, lost but did 1 hps dmg
MDI vs last spearman, won -1hp and capture that city.

[IBT]

Pyongyang: marketplace -> aqueduct
Manp'O: trebuchet -> trebuchet

[5]

Sold Theology to Spanish for 20g & 6gpt.
Elite horsemen killed an archer but still no MGL :(
cash-rushed a library at FAAAR away city on English island.
Inch'On: Pikeman -> pikeman
Taejon: marketplace -> university
Tokch'on: library (cash-rushed) -> harbor

[IBT]

Nothing much. We've destroyed pretty much all of the Byzantines' offensive forces.

[6]

Cash-rushed library at Sariwon
Moved units around to protect the mountain and workers building roads.

[IBT]

Jeju: courthouse -> worker
Sariwon: library -> worker
The Spanish is building the Knight's Templar :eek: But fear not! The ocean will protect us from them.

[7]

Moves units up north, preparing to assalt the next Byzance city, Caesarea.
Switched Ulsas' production to aqueduct from pikemen (we have enough units).

[IBT]

Nothing.

[8]

Still preparing, gathering the units to north.

[IBT]

Pusan: MDI -> marketplace (it's making at least 10 uncorrupted commerce)
The Korean Panama: Barracks -> aqueduct
Jeju: worker -> worker

[9]

The Battle of Dyrrachius

Elite MDI vs spearman, won unscathed, still no MGL
Vet MDI vs Spearmen, lost :rolleyes:
Then capture it with a regular MDI.

Cash-rushed library at Trebizond

[IBT]

Trebizond: library -> courthouse
Suwon: worker -> courthouse
Chinje: library -> courthouse

[10]

bombed the city of Caesarea to death with 6 trebuchet, the two spearman defending that city is both redlined. Then easily captured it.

Sold Monothesis to the Carthaginians for 20 gold and 3gpt.

I also decided Seoul had enough MDI-producing. I switched its production to university from MDI.

Conclusion:

We're now much militaristically stronger than ALL other civs, and we'll soon finish the rest of the Byzantines, and soon the whole continent will be ours. Then, we can start producing a huge, strong fleet of galleys to dominate the ocean, and we'll start taking other island by force. After both Taejon and Seoul build the universities, we can finally start researching out of our pockets. Also, try not to buy Chivalry from anyone (unless it's very cheap), because we won't be needing knights, and it's not required tech to advance to next age. I've won several fights with elites, but still no GL.. Hopefully the next player will get one. We're also raking a healthy net of 72 gold per turn.

Let's finish off the Byzances!

Hurrah!

Great work there ShogunTaka. Theodora really is dumb as I suspected.

The Dutch should be getting worried now...

We really should think about starting to build our FP somewhere. I reckon Trebizond looks good as it will bring in the Northern lands as well as providing some nice corruption protection for the jungle areas. Now that the Byzantines are a spent force, we can hack the jungles to death unimpeded and get ourselves another couple of cities in there.

Next target after Byzantium is to upgrade our fleet of Galleys to Caravels when we get Astronomy and put a massive army over to Holland (I'm talking ten ships with three MDI each - they're going to have Swiss Mercs so might take a bit of beating.)

I agree that we'll never need Chivalry.

Just a point regarding our variant. We should research Navigation straight after Astronomy and possibly start a prebuild for Magellan's.

Once again. Nice fighting!

I believe that the Spanish, Dutch, and English are researching Astronomy -- so why don't we start researching gunpowder after both Seoul and Taejon are done building the universities. Once we discover gunpowder, we can get Astronomy and make a heap of profits and some more luxuries.

Nice battle and great conquests! Also, some great shifting of builds at the beginning. I had left the nothern cities building pikes, with an idea to change them soon if we reinforced with pikes before then, which I did. Nice use of the trebuchets. The only thing different I would have done would have been to hold off on demanding Theodora to remove the swordman until the beginning of turn one, to get first strike. At least she didn't have anything to attack in the IBT, but we may have been able to stave off the attack on our spice colony. Anyhow, the results speak for themselves. :goodjob:

As for the FP, because the FP doesn't reduce all corruption in surrounding cities (only distance and OCN), I think the FP should go into a city which itself will be a powerhouse (the FP city still has minimal corruption). Trebizond isn't necessarily a bad choice, but we have to get irrigation there and clear the marshes quickly for it to grow and be strong. Unfortunately, I don't think there are many better choices.

Our research path gives us an interesting choice. Our varient demands we research for Astronomy and Navigation at all costs. Is it okay to research gunpowder with the idea to trade for our required techs? Would Wang Kon see the wisdom in that or would he be blindsided by the smell of the seas? Wang Kon can be quite stubborn in matters of the sea, you know. :D

You're right, I've been neglecting the SG's variant rule :(
Ok! After both Seoul and Taejon are done building the universities, let's go for maximum science research! Another thing I noticed is the 2 luxiries with the dutch will be expired in two turns :eeK:

Yup. Hopefully the Dutch won't renegotiate the luxes again, since we are giving GPT and a lux ourselves. But with our new conquests, the price surely has gone up.
