b125 York builds LH (:( ) (Eng --> GW); hut -- 100g; Amer (hostile, demand Trade, which I fork over (we have a few caravans coming soon to these shores) -- now is only icy)

b75 Establish embassy with America -- they have a couple of techs we don't, but have yet to trade for them Amer (Wash) begins Marco Polo (Hmmm should we let them build it and then step into Wash and acquire two Wonders? such devious thinking may get the old king into trouble...

b25 Oops -- the king sent a mixed boat asail -- one caravan is demanded in the south & the other in the north. Such foolishness costs him the throne.

Five caravans exist, all demended products by Spain or America.
Significant open territory in the far north; exploration continues in the south :scan:

I am very sorry about the delay in getting this new round of turns played and posted. I will definitely have time to play it and get it back here today.

It's been a while, huh?

Status report: 23 techs, new one every 11 turns.

cities: 14 cities, with 1 280 000 pop. Rome is size 6.
treasury: 1 gold making 19 each turn

8 settlers, 4 warriors, 13 phalanx (1 in prod), 2 archers, 1 chariot, 3 crusaders (4 in prod), 4 tririme, 1 diplomat, 5 caravans (1 in prod)

Power is supreme, reputation is spotless.

90ad : Sold the barracks in Atlanta. The city will be occupied by the Americans next turn. Relocated some workers in several cities. Loaded Lutetia settler on trireme to go and found a new city.

100 ad : I sent 3 caravans to Rome. A 4th one will arrive shortly. They are going to help Rome to build Copernicus'. Also building workers caravans in Rome and Pisae. A caravan with 2 crusaders on board sets sail to the Spanish continent. I make peace with the Americans, for the knowledge of Seafaring (gift), and 50 gold (demanded) the trade is too important.

110 ad: American horses appear near Brundisium. Nothing I can do about that. Will they sneak-attack or not? I don't know. The crusaders unload in Lugdunum. Spanish campaign will begin next turn.

120 ad: Spanish horses appear near the gates of lugdunum. They will be crushed. Hehe  . Lutetia finished Phalanx, begins on barracks. Hispalis finishes Temple, begins on diplomat.
Killed 2 Spanish horses and a mysterious third unit, probably the elephant which we saw on the screenshots.

130ad: Americans pull back from Brundisium. Another Spanish elephant butchered. That will teach the Spanish for attacking us. Another crusader sets sail to the Spanish continent.

140ad: Yet another Spanish elephant is killed by our brave crusaders. They will reach salamanca in a couple of turns. 1 workers caravan will be finished next turn, and 1 in 2 turns, so we can have an instant Cope's.

150ad: Lugdunum builds temple, goes for crusaders. Rome builds workers caravan. Begins on Cope's. We research Navigation, and begin researching The Wheel.
A Spanish settler, and 1 mysterious unit is killed by our crusaders. He becomes veteran, but is heavely damaged. Another crusader land on the Spanish continent.

160ad: Byzantium builds temple. Begins crusader. Another Spanish settler is killed by our brave troops. A ship chain is going to bring in another crusader next turn. The damaged crusader however is even more damaged because of the killing of the crusader. Brundisium builds crusader. Ravenna builds crusader. Loads on trireme to set sail to the American continent together with a caravan.

170ad: Caesarauguste build. Crusaders on the Spanish continent attack Salamanca, but are killed by the pikemen. A catapult was destroyed. Another attempt to take the city will be made next turn.

180ad: Americans have nearly completed Marco's. Cope's build in Rome. Salamanca emptied. 3 crusaders are ready to take the city next turn.
Production in Rome changed to Caravan.

190ad: Washington completes Marco's. Hispalis commisions diplomat. Salamanca destroyed. Stole chivalery. Veii builds crusader. Cumae will finish another next turn.

Next emperor may descide what to do with my army of crusaders. (3 triremes are waiting to transport 2 crusaders and 1 diplomat to the Spanish continent)

The World at 200 AD -- Rome has 15 cities, America has 10; rome has 25 techs, America has 17. Rome has 3 wonders of the World (America has 2), Hanging Gardens, Colossus, and Cope's Observatory, with Mike's Chapel 75% complete.

Rome has 7 Settlers, 21 (2) Infantry, 8 (3) Mounted, 4 boats, 2 dips and 0 (4) camels.

Infrastructure: 2(4) barracks, 9 (1) temples, 1 liabrary, 1 harbor (Rome produces 50 out of the country's 87 beakers per turn at 3.0.7 allocation rate)

The Americans are hostile, but at peace; the Spanish are uncooperative, but at war.

We're advised that we are supreme in power and have a spotless record of diplomacy.

Every now and then countries tire of the pressures of war, and desire quiet. We try a gambit in the north with the Americans. We give them 5 techs (they have none to trade with us -- they get phil, nav, mono, pot, and astro) and get them to a state of Worshipfulness -- & trade maps. A bit expensive, but the map should have value for our future adventures up north, and perhaps we can have some quiet and only deal with the situation in the south.

The action as the country chooses a slow guy to be king. a somewhat wounded crusader tries his hand at a knoght in the trees. He tries and fails. :( His fellow crusader finishes the job successfully leaving our our southern front with two seriously wounded units and no support in sight. :scan:

The early 200's see a camel (copper) sent to Rome, rehomed and sent to sea for far Philadelphia (or maybe Buffalo, or new Palmyra, just founded). Meanwhile, in the south, fresh troops arrive even as the wounded troops retreat facing a Spanish Archer & catapult. For two turns running, the retreat continues, when in 240, fresh troops arrive almost in time (a wounded crusader perishes at teh hand of a Spanish knight who in turn falls in justice). The fresh crusaders sustain wounds slaying a knight, archer & catapult.

Sneakily, a dip manages to acquire an embassy with Spain -- they have 5 cities, and a new tech of feudalism, with Sun Tsu's War academy already in progress. A few turns later, our other dip in the area manages to acquire this tech for us, but unfortunately, Madrid builds the Wonder.:(

We managed to squeeze out an explorer & send him to the west side of the southern continent. It appears as though Spain lies entirely to the south/southeast of the two cites already known.

The slow guy dies of old age, having founded two cities during his term, but leaving a potentially viable force of four healthy crusaders (and one very wounded knight) in the south, recommending to his successor that additional recon be undertaken in the south.

In the north, a settler was sent for the consideration of founding a city on the site of the fort at the ishmus between Atlanta and us. However, given that America is now hostile again (so quickly! ) we may ask that a future general reconsider increasing the defense there.

Brundisium is a great site, and maybe the temple started there should go for city walls with a barracks as well before the expected fur flies. The settle there has some roads to build, but otherwise serves should early warning :scan: be required. :king:

I played since Gen doesn't show up anymore.

300 ad: Troops are taking offensive positions on the Spanish continent. Some productions changed.

310 ad: A Roman knight was killed by the Spanish. As revenge, we kill the knight who killed ours. An explorer finds a hut who gives us an advanced tribe, called Caesarea, which starts a pikeman.

320 ad: Spanish kill a crusader. We kill the knight, and a catapult. Pisae builds a caravel. Starts caravan.

330 ad: We kill a Spanish settler.

340 ad: 4 caravans finished. Beads caravan in Hispalis. cloth caravan in Pompeii. Copper caravan in Neapolis. Beads caravan in Ravenna. I begin to think seriously about Magellan's. A Spanish knight killed.

350 ad: For 200 gold and Iron working, we make peace with the Americans. We discover medicine, head for University. We gift The Wheel and Iron Working to the Americans. Our troops in Spanish territory will heal, and soon rebegin the offensive. :scan:

360 ad: Veii builds food caravan. Caesaraugusta builds diplomat. Caravan production in overdrive. (9 are being produced)

370 ad: Tarentum founded on the Spanish continent. Copper caravan lands near Philadelphia.

380 ad: Nicomedia founded on the American continent. Crusaders amassing near Valencia.

390 ad: Copper caravan from Rome to Philadelphia nets 212 gold. Gems caravan from Rome to SFC nets 189 gold. Spanish declare war on us. 2 Catapults and 1 settler killed.

400 ad: Some workers caravans are ready. We discover University. Head for theory of gravity. Valencia captured. Cordoba under siege. Will this be the end of the Spanish empire?

410 ad: Cordoba falls to the Roman empire. A push deep into the heartland of the Spanish is prepared.

420 ad: Spanish settler destroyed.

430 ad: Berlin builds oracle. 4 Spanish units destroyed. Seville discovered.

440 ad: Troops prepare to storm Seville. Hides caravan from Rome to Philadelphia. 212 gold. More workers finished in Rome.

450 ad: Salt caravan from Rome to Washington. 220 gold. Seville captured.

Old-'n-Slow, rehome all caravans who are carrying goods to Rome. (all of them are underway) They are all demanded by America. Magellans will be finished next turn. You should then build a university in Rome, and then Newton's.

Good luck with the Spanish. They are nearly finished now.

Argh!!

Got the message of too many smilies! My entire post was erased!

On to the abridged version.

530 AD pop = 3M (great party guys!)

540 AD hides caravan to Philly = 340g (maybe the old guy has a streak of slyness??!) Discover Engineering

550 AD hides caravan to Philly = 340g pop. = 4M

560 AD Discover Sanitation (almost in time)

570

580 AD Discover Invention (after some more caravans arrive in America)

590 AD Amerks sneak attack again!

600 AD 5M pop. 25 cities, 34 techs and new elections.
