Sullla's AI Survivor Season Eight - Game 1 Thread

Yep, it's linked on his website. In practice the discussion is generally overwhelmed by a small number of extremely hardcore fans. The forums here are nicer for discussion IMO since it doesn't get too detailed, there's not as much stream-of-consciousness, and you can actually see what somebody said two days ago.

Never been to discord, but the pace will pick here as well once the game starts. 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♂️

were not hardcore fans?? Posting on a Civ forum for fun?
Are you closely analyzing the playoff starting positions to determine the best fantasy picks? Counting the number of food resources near each leader? Trying to predict how diplomacy will shake out for each game based on part on the "warmonger respect" values?

There's hardcore Civ fans and then there's hardcore AI Survivor fans. I'm pretty hardcore on that scale but I don't think I'm that hardcore.

Yeah, I find discord quite messy unless you have a small focus group

I suspect most people remaining on CFC will automatically consider certain xml aspects like iBaseAttitude, iWarmongerRespect, iBasePeaceWeight, (various)AttitudeThreshold, simply because many long term players know these values off the back of their hand (mostly through playing SP for years).

I'd be surprised if any of the minutiae being discussed on discord hadn't originated on CFC nearly two decades ago. :)

I think the main argument against over-analysing Survivor is that so much is dependent on dumb luck. Even the peaceweight randomly varies by several points with each game, so we can't be sure of natural enemies or allies. More often than not, alternate histories seem to show a wide range of outcomes in unclear positions.

As a side-note, I'm quite sure that (for Survivor purposes) AI demand penalties are a red-herring. The AI never demands anything that could be refused from other AIs, though they will offer trades/bribes, but with tech trading turned off even this is uncommon.

You have exposed my inexperience in these parts! Point taken. However, it is still true that such stuff is more actively being covered on the Discord than here today. And that makes it pretty much impossible for me to keep up with the conversations there! I can't always go back through hundreds of messages that were sent during a few hours where I wasn't keeping up.

You have a good point about the luck factor, though I think folks still like to try to figure out what the most likely outcomes will be revealed to be.

Agreed, I've been on the platform a long time but have grown more disgruntled with it in the past few years. I've mostly scaled back my usage of it these days.

Kublai is probably the safe bet.

Mao's positioning between two Agg leaders could go either way. Low peace weight means he can befriend them and ride their coattails to silver or wildcard like usual, but he if angers them for some dumb reason, (this is still the AI we're talking about) he's out.

Boudica's game likely depends on her sharing a border with Hammurabi to give her the opportunity for military expansion.

Churchill is always hard to read; either he sits in the corner or he goes out and does some trolling.

As the only wonder spammer, Hammurabi's survival (or not) will be down to how quickly Boudica and Kublai get their hands on him and on what Churchtroll does.

Oh, yeah, Peter's in the game too.
Kublai is the safe bet because he's closest to his cow of destiny. The only one on the map!

I'd actually think we'd be fingered as the more "hardcore" types considering we're posting on a forum rather than in just a chat. The forum actually allows for more detailed discussion IMO because it allows for some afterthoughts to be shared along with images.

I mean anyone who’s watching the computer play itself for 4 hours for a game released in 2005 is absolutely in the supercool camp :scan:
Since the times of Romans watching gladiators, we're simply carrying on the tradition of watching parties tear one another apart for our amusement. I mean, the organizer's name is SULLLA.

Well, regardless of how relatively hardcore the different groups are, the basic truth is that there is a Discord, and from my observations in a limited time here, the two communities have rather different vibes.

Kublai, Mao, and Peter all have the same peace weight.
Boudica is close and will found a religion and struggle to tech once again.

Kublai and Churchill both with riverside gold, but Churchill starts with Mining.
Churchill with the 2nd religion?
Boudica spreads her religion up the coast to Peter?

Kublai will have Stone and Marble it appears, tons of culture pushing from him I predict.

Nobody with Financial trait? huh

Ahh, I'm covered in rust.
I had that massive losing streak of picks last season too. :crazyeye:

I'll just ease back into things I guess with EXTREMELY BORING PICKS.
Spoiler Game 1 Predictions :
1st - Kublai
2nd - Churchill
First to die - Hammurabi
11 Wars
Spaceship
T329

Probably not as boring as my picks!

Spoiler :

1st: Kublai
2nd: Boudica
FTD: Hammy
Domination
Turn 349
10 wars

My only slightly interesting reading is on 2nd place. I think both Kublai and Churchill have excellent chances to win, but I don't like either to finish 2nd, as I anticipate an eventual showdown will ensue between them.

I'm hoping Boudica stays out of harm's way in the west, establishes a religious block between the low peaceweight leaders and hangs on to the coattails of the eventual winner while not launching any suicidal attacks. Perhaps the fact that she won't attack at pleased could turn out to be an advantage. Second place doesn't necessarily mean second best!

1: Churchill
2: Boudie

Yup!
(Link good for 7 days I think)

@Eauxps I. Fourgott
Nice message at the bottom of the preview
WE CAN DO MEMES?????????

Sullla displayed your comment! Will you be sending more picks in the future? There's also an aptly named "Mooaddict" who might not be named in order to honor best resource, but I'll consider them an honorary member of The Pasture!

LOL, I'm surprised that Sullla published my comment, since it wasn't really a prediction, but I'm glad he did, because now I know he knows the differing origins of "Plains-Cow" and "Plain Cow". :)

Anyway, I'm not sure I can make any future comments as Plain Cow, now that I've given myself the big hype job as the "plain", "reserved" and "dull" one. ;)

As for "Mooaddict", I suppose we would need to know the story behind their pseudonym. Perhaps they are addicted to "Text-based online virtual reality systems": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOO

You can drop your CFC handle sometime so people know where to find you here when/if they come over. I'm surprised you didn't include "The Rook" anywhere in your post! There are already those coming over to CFC to talk more since S7 started. I'm sure they'd love to read everyone's posts (those who are into that kind of thing, at least).

Don't feel you have to back the English. I want them to win but peace weight is a killer. Silly religion moves could be too. Avoiding key techs for religion would be annoying.
