Sunday's PAX talk (with summary of the info)

So is the Amazon or Igacu Falls. So it comes back, essentially, to "Which would win a popularity contest?" which I think is a poor basis for choosing Wonders (okay, the other two aren't artefacts, but I think Igacu should be a Natural Wonder).

I see your point but this is ultimately a game isn't it. Meant to entertain us. The game also needs to be accessible to a wider audience. So if they are putting popular or well-known wonders in the game over other more culturally significant wonders, it's only because more people know about these wonders.

So glad they used the Lion of Judea symbol for Ethiopia since that's the symbol of the Ethiopian monarchy and ever since the revolution they've become irrelevant unfortunately.

With Freedom being shifted up to industrial too... Order seems much more useful already.
(oh well, not sure if this GE purchasing needs the tree finished or how this exactly works... guess we'll just have to wait and see.)

PS: If this remains the start screen/background, I will not buy the game:

You will not buy the game because you don't like the start screen. Really. I hope you are joking...

I'm mainly curious what the Cristo Redentor will have its ability changed to (we know that Stonehenge and others are being altered, and it would seem kind of silly to have a giant Jesus statue give only cultural bonuses). This is a straight-up guess, but I'm wondering if Neuschwanstein will pick up its current bonus of making policies cheaper (out of the wonders announced so far, it seems to be the only "culture for culture's sake" one).

And yeah, the CN Tower is a little odd, but I'm willing to roll with it. I think it's unlikely that Canada would make it in as the mystery civ (although I'm glad to see people pointing out that Canada was more significant in the Great War than we often get credit for). I'm just happy to see our existence acknowledged as more than a single city-state. (Having said that, a "Commonwealth" DLC pack with Canada and Australia is definitely something I would buy...)

Don't know if the developers are still reading here, but question: Is there any chance of a soundtrack update/re-release/second set, with the themes for the DLC and expansion civs? (As well as Siam, Egypt and the Ottomans, which are seemingly still missing from the original set...)

Just use a free converter download from online to get the songs in the song folders. ;)

One can only wonder why. ;)

Well, the choice of words there is important. It's a wonder, after all, and should represent something unique. There aren't a dozen Great Walls scattered around the planet, or a dozen Pyramids of Giza, or a dozen Statues of Liberty, but there are many Cristo Redentors (or similarly named, structurally and figuratively identical statues).

I guess what I'm saying is that it would make more sense as a National Wonder than Oxford University (only 1 of them) or the Hermitage (only 1 of them) or the Circus Maximus (only 1 of them), since there are Cristos in so many nations (more than 1 Cristo, but usually 1 per 'civ' if you will).

Makes me think, a neat mod would be having a National Wonder associated with each Faith Symbol (Cristos, Buddhas, Spiral Minarets, etc) that you could buy with Faith. Each one would do the same thing, but have a different model in-game.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but the title-screen guy is definitely Francis I. I not sure why they would include him, other than the fact that he would be a good choice in the Medieval scenario for a French leader.

It looks like they are really pushing the Medieval scenario.

I have a feeling that your right, they are going to change the leaderheads in the 'Into the Renaisscance' scenario. I hope they do, and for the other scenarios too. That would be a tremendous undertaking though, with all of the other changes.

Autocracy opener: -33% unit maintenance and "receive 10 culture as plunder for each point of culture produced in the conquered city." Not sure what that means exactly - seems very powerful though! Finisher is +25% attack bonus for 50 turns!

Wow, that sounds very powerful! So if the city produces 10 culture per turn (which is not all that uncommon), then capturing it will give me 100 culture instantly!? Anyway, I like how autocracy seems to be buffed up. It's actually a viable option now, especially with Freedom being moved to the industrial era.

NOTE: I'll have to admit I haven't read through the entire thread yet, so I'm not sure if someone else has already said this.

Some awesome looking stuff. Looking forward to Austria. Anyone know where it's set (or is it a fictional backdrop)?
All of the pantheon options.

Wow, these seem really, really unbalanced... I guess that's why we have Thal ;)

Isn't being 'unbalanced' kinda the idea, though? They're apparently not like social policies, but work on a first come, first served basis. So if you neglect faith, you get a consolation prize, not something equally as good as whoever got there first.

I'm shocked they didn't announce the last new civilization yet. We're sure we are getting one more, right? And they're not counting Spain as that additional one that we're all counting on? I believe I saw in a preview a while ago that there will now be 34 civilizations, and we already have 25 counting the DLC, so that would mean we are still getting one more, but I just am surprised they have bothered to leave just one unannounced still.

There's still over two months to go until release. They've got to fill that time somehow!

What's wrong with it? I like it.

Imagine the AI would go for a culture victory similarly as a human does. capital with 700ish culture per turn? --> BAM! 7000 culture gained :D

About the start screen... makes me just feel like I'm playing Command and Conquer (Soviets). Please no ugly beardy guys on any background. K-Pop chicks okay. Not ugly guys though.

The issue herein is that the same few faith bonuses will be chosen every game if they are not equal in strength. However, I have faith (Dohoho) that they'll either be more balanced by release or that our resident modders will make it so.

...That's a rare sentiment... I support it wholeheartedly. :)

1 other bit of information:
Autocracy can also buy a Great Admiral with Faith, besides the Great General as already mentioned.

And the battle between Attila and Ethiopia was set-up. There was a Machine Gun next to a citadel, but without damage, so it is likely the AI did not create all those well places citadels.

Is there any way to get the music of the new leaders?
I heard something how to get them on the forums.

With regards to the new screen: there may of course be an option, as there was in Beyond the Sword, to change it back to the original title screen. I can't remember if the feature was in Warlords, but once BtS came out I definitely reverted to the original CIV title screen (and associated music).

Also, I'm really hoping Autocracy is worth taking now. I occasionally consider taking it, but Order always seems more relevant anyway (for the immediate benefit of happiness at the very least), and generally if I'm going the conquest route I don't have enough culture to get social policies in the Industrial era. Hopefully the new Autocracy opener will help with that somewhat.

I wonder if the music will be seperate mp3's for owners of the deluxe edition?

Was Canada already an independent nation in the Great War? I thought they got independence in the interbellum?
But I might be wrong, Canada's history is not one of my strong parts. Not at all :p
