Super Scenario Idea

Looks real good NavyDawg. I agree with LMR re. the boots - the turnover is just too much.

Maybe he could have some shoulder guards to help with the bashing work?

edit:
Also, I think he should be a bit broader but this is without seeing him in any context next to a normal unit for comparison. Maybe as big as the guy attached.

KA,
Rough drafts of the good (Left) and evil (Right) Basher. I've just started messing with the Apollo character to use as a base for these. I like Apollo for this unit as it is very easy to make him HUGE.

Let me know what you think about the coloring and overall uniform. Cheers.

Here's the framework I'm working from for mapping out the rest of the tech tree and general game mechanics. This is not set in stone of course so if you've any comments I'd love to hear them.

Techs are spread over 4 eras but this is not a normal sequential era tech tree.

ERA 1 POWERS

This one we've covered already. This era is accessible to Capt. Stupendous, The Silver Crusader and Nemesis* only. It's basically 4 chains of unit upgrades that will give the super heroes and villains SUPERior units (balanced slightly by cost).

ERA 2 (NO NAME YET)

This era is for the Authorities only. It covers the civic and ceremonial duties of mayor. Don't worry, however, this won't be like a game of Sim City because it also covers the machiavellian movements of a mayor keen to discredit super heroes as well as ridding the city of villains. The Authorities are the only faction able to build Workers and Settlers. Eventually, the Mayor will be able to hold Elections (GW) which introduces the possibility of a Diplomatic Victory.

ERA 3 BASE BUILDING

This gives the villains (super or otherwise) and heroes a number of base building upgrades - mainly improvements e.g. Workshops, Comms Centres, Shark Tanks, Containment Cells, Strongholds, Fortresses, Auto Defense Systems, Perimeter Security etc etc.

ERA 4 CRIMES

This era is accessible to the villains (Dr. Ego, Boss Goldtooth and Nemesis*). It mainly gives them the ability to build their henchmen but also some Great Wonders that autoproduce very big and nasty dangers not only to the city but to the world at large. Techs are along the lines of: Extortion, Machination, Sabotage, Espionage, Cat Burgalry, Assassination, Mutagenesis, Vaporisation, World Domination etc etc.

NEW FACTIONS AND HOW THEY FIT IN.

The Neutrals - these guys are the heroes who have decided to remove themselves from the affairs of "normals". They appear arrogant, aloof and uncaring but could that just be a cover for some sinister plan? These guys are non playable. They have a number of fixed "character" units which can be captured and "persuaded" to join the cause of any other faction (via unit upgrade). They can access all techs which makes them useful trade partners.

Nemesis - the world's most dangerous menace has returned to wreck vengeance on those who banished him to.... blah, blah, blah. This is your stereotypical uber bad guy with a grudge. Nemesis starts off weak (having just returned from the plane of blah, blah blah) but as he can access the ERA 1 and ERA 4 techs he will become a serious threat. Look for allies or take him out early game. Nemesis is planned to be non-playable but he might be too much fun to leave out.

GAMEPLAY AIMS
As you may know I like short games with lots of options avaiable to the player. Because the game is small, replayability is important and each faction should play differently from the others.

As The Super Heroes.. Expect: lots of fun with very cool and unique units. Don't Expect: The good guys to always win.

As The Villains.. Expect: Dastardly Deeds and Maximum Mayhem. Don't Expect: An Easy Victory.

As The Authorities.. Expect cool military units and backstabbing politics. Don't Expect: the pot holes in the roads to be fixed.

The Authorities should have a Press Pay-Off tech, so that they can persuade the editor of the city newspaper to run a smear campaign against the heroes. "Captain Stupendous is a menace! $100 to the first one who gets a picture of him with his fingers in the cookie jar! Well, why are you all still here?!" etc.

 I love it.

I myself use "The Media" as a plague replacement in a city-map game. If you're interested in it, then maybe "Press Pay-Off" could reduce the effects of the Media?

That's a neat idea but I'm not sure I like the effects of plague i.e. killing off units - I suppose the script text could be changed from $UNIT0 has been killed by $PLAGUE1! to $UNIT0 has commited suicide after press snap photos of him in bed with a hoover.

And

$RULER_TITLE1, the citizens of $CITY0 are dying of $PLAGUE2.
Who knows how long this scourge will continue, but be wary of bringing other units into $CITY0 while it lasts!

changed to

$RULER_TITLE1, the occupants of $CITY0 are surrounded by photographers from the $PLAGUE2.
Who knows how long they will remain, some have flasks and sleeping bags. Keep a low profile and be wary of bringing other units into $CITY0 while they're here!

A new plague animation would be needed too, flash bulbs going off maybe.

Yeah, and a camera icon for pollution :D

Also, they don`t have to commit suicide, them leaving your ranks is enough for you to lose a unit.

"I went to work today. A paparazzo jumped me... Now Barbara will know that I am not really a car salesman, but an Evil Henchman! Oh the horrors. My lord, I must resign. Yours truly, (tho not anymore, duh!), Horrace".

The Smear Campaign could also be implemented as a Space Race Victory for those who want to turn off the Diplomacy Win. The constituent parts could be
"Incriminating Evidence" gained with the "Private Investigations" Tech
"Public Opinion" gained by the "Control Of The Press" Tech.
"The Lawsuit" gained with the "The Lawyers" Tech.

Probably need at least 1 more step to spread it out. I'll need to think some more about this. Good idea tho'

In my scenario, they "force" the "employees" to "resign" (resignation/firing replaces death+disbandment in the text files ;))

KA,
Here's a rework of the good basher. I think this one has a better uniform, plus he's bigger than my first draft. I also like him bald. Let me know what you think.

I like him a lot! If you could get more bulk in the bicep area that would be better - I think now his bicep should be almost 1.5 times as big as his forearms. The little costume details are great and the boots are much better. Bald gives him a nice distinctive look. :goodjob:
