Superpowers NES

Islamic State has 2 super carriers, making the Mighty Fist of Allah's upkeep 2, and the summation of total upkeep is 2 less than should be.

European Union's Satellite Research's cost is out of 75, but the stat says 45.

It says in the rules that 2 supercarriers will only cost 1 upkeep.

This is correct, but don't tell Jason this.

Methinks it be a wee bit late for that. yar.

I don't see why we couldn't start with diplo.

Alrighty then

Excellent. Now all we need is a fancy name for this mutual protection pact. But just remember that we won't help you invade anything.

Write out your terms for this pact. Then we'll sign it, appropriately.

UPDATE ONE
January, 2030

RUSSIAN FORCES STRIKE UKRAINE Rostov, Russian Federation
Flinging allegations of Ukrainian “ethnic cleansing” and persecution of Russian minorities, the Russian government has finally opened up a war against Ukraine, sending thousands of Russian soldiers across the border. The surprise attack was a complete success in the early parts of the war, the 74th Motor Rifle Brigade easily capturing Kiev and the Ukrainian government. In the east, Russian forces steamrolled through meager Ukrainian border defenses to capture the major Ukrainian cities of Poltava and Dnipropetrovs’k. But as the fighting continues, Ukrainian defenses stiffen and have successfully halted Russian forces on the east bank of the Dneiper. One Russian probe, made by a mechanized infantry battalion of the 58th Army, was soundly defeated a mile inwards. The Russian Black Sea fleet is also engaged in mine-clearing, after the Ukrainian fleet disappears. One Russian destroyer was hit by a mine, sending it to the bottom of the Black Sea. The Russian Air Army has also not yet gained air superiority, as Ukrainian continue to operate from Kirovohrad. The Ukrainian people have already sent out hails to the EU for help.

INDONESIA BOMBS KUALA LIMPUR, FOLLOWS WITH INVASION Kuala Limpur, Occupied Malaysia
As Indonesia aims to expand its influence throughout Southeast Asia, she first has to move against her rivals within the islands themselves. Malaysia was a prime target, having little to do with military expenditures over the past decades, the Malaysian army was seemingly in bad shape. Indonesia fighters and fighter/bombers of the TNI-AU air wing took to the skies, quickly gaining air superiority and destroying key targets in Kuala Limpur, the capital of Malaysia. Following the bombing, the infantry-heavy Sukarno army crossed the border into Malaysian Borneo, only to find stiff defenses from a century ago. With little air support, the infantry of the Sukarno army is having a hard time pushing through dense jungle. Though Bintulu was nearly encircled, the Malaysians were able to thin down the Indonesian lines at the Battle of Miri, decisively destroying a Malaysian infantry battalion. Still, as guns open up on Bintulu and the Indonesians regroup, Malaysian Borneo stands no real chance of surviving.

On the other front, a highly trained and well-equipped mechanized Indonesian force lands on the Malay peninsula covered by air support from both land-based fighters and carrier forces. Kuala Limpu was quickly captured, cutting the head off the Malaysian army, and spelling doom within a month for the free independent state of Malaysia.

NIGERIA TURNS TO CAMEROON, CAPTURES DOUALA Makurdi, Nigeria
As the rest of the world turns to war, the Empire of Nigeria becomes determined not to be left out. Forming a huge army consisting of more than a hundred thousand men, the 1st Army of Nigeria quickly penetrates the border with Cameroon and takes the port of Douala without a shot fired. That soon changed, though, as Cameroon mobilized its forces by the middle of the month and launched a series of counterattacks. One such offensive actually came close to driving the Nigerians out of the city, only the naval guns based off the coast in the Bight of Biatra saved the day. Now, though, the Nigerians are firmly in charge of the war, securing the air and the sea and defeating the main force of the Cameroon army. All the is left is to capture the capital, Yaounde.

BOLIVIA LOCATION OF WAR AS BRAZIL INVADES Cuzco, Peru
Yet another surprise attack was launched by Brazilian forces in an effort to annex the Republic of Bolivia. Brazilians claim that the leader, Manual Sanchez, had overthrown the republic and placed himself as dictator, but that has yet to be confirmed by this news company. In any event, the 1st Army of Brazil, highly trained in jungle warfare, blitzed the center of the country, traversing the parts of Amazon that are left. Fighting was tough for the first couple weeks, and only when air support was called in did the Brazilians capture the strategically-important town of Trinidad. Bolivian forces are regrouping, though, and are determined more then ever to drive the Brazilians from their country. Heavy artillery fire has demoralized Brazilian forces in the city and an assault destroyed a Brazilian artillery battery before it was repulsed. AA guns are also being built throughout the country, having taken down already a squadron of Brazilian fighter jets. The Bolivians believe should the skies be taken back from the Brazilians, then they have a chance at driving out the invaders. Systematic bombing has commenced against the capital, La Paz, claiming thousands of civilian lives.

PAMPAS BLITZES PARAGUAY, VICTORY IN A MONTH Asuncion, Occupied Paraguay
In contrast to the rather sluggish invasion of the Brazilians, the Pampas war against Paraguay has been quick, efficient, and nearly flawless. The carefully-planned war called for a surprise attack on the Paraguayans at their captial, Asuncion, effectively severing the head of the Paraguayan military. A devastating and demoralizing blow to the Paraguayan army, it was not the last. Once the capital was secure, the 1st Legion moved further south, into the heartland of Paraguay civilization and captured the key city of Cuidad del Erste and afterwards Salto del Guaira. Of note was the capture of the Itaipu dam, which provides most of Latin America with cheap hydroelectricity, in tact. United in the central city of Concepcion, the Pampas forces now move north to the badlands of the Chaco to finish off the remnants of Paraguayan forces. The war, though nearly flawless, did cost the Pampas two infantry divisions from the 1st Legion at the Battle of Concepcion, but other than that, casualties were light across the board.

OCEANIA NEAR DEFEAT AFTER DISASTEROUS INVASION Port Moresby, occupied Papua New Guinea
After building the world’s most powerful fleet, the Oceanian leadership didn’t think too much for building a formidable army. With just two small divisions barely more then 40,000 men each, the Oceanians drifted from Darwin and landed near Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The Oceanian invasion force was low in numbers, only a couple thousand men. But the Papua New Guineans were armed with pre-WW2 weapons and were barely trained in fighting non-native forces. After a brief skirmish, the New Guineans withdrew to the interior and northern reaches of the island, while Oceania commenced to occupy most of the southern coast and Port Moresby. However, Oceanian numbers are drastically low, the units only holding

EU EXPANDS AGGRESSIVELY, BLUNDERS IN SWEDEN Malmo, occupied Sweden
Far from being ill-prepared to defend itself, Sweden is one of the more powerful neutral countries in Europe. Unfortunately for the EU, this was apparently not taken into account when the 1st Armored division surprised the Swedes by capturing the Oresund bridge, the bridge that connects Denmark with Sweden by way of Malmo. The city was quickly taken, and a foothold was found for the Europeans in Sweden. However, since then the Swedes have mobilized their forces and have put up considerable resistance. As the 1st Armored put on an advance northwards to Goteburg, they are soundly defeated halfway and forced to retreat back to Malmo, suffering the loss of two armored divisions and one mechanized infantry division. Air superiority has by no means been secured, even with the EU supercarrier sitting in the Baltic. Now, as the 1st Armored scrambles to regroup itself, the Swedes are preparing yet another assault to drive the EU from the country.

EU forces fare only slightly better in their other theater, the Balkans. Using Greece as a staging point, the EU launched an invasion with the 1st Motorized into Albania. For the past fifty years Albania has been the backwater socialist nation of Europe, avoiding western technology and remaining fiercely independent. However, though they have a peculiar culture having isolated themselves, their defenses have suffered as a result. The 1st Motorized had no problem defeating border guards and moving northwards. The only reason Tirana has not been captured yet is the rough terrain and poor infrastructure to travel on.

UIS BECOMES ANGRY, INVADES SUDAN Cairo, UIS
Egypt has the spotlight in the UIS as politicians petition the federation to send forces against the Sudan, who, Egypt claims, have been violating border agreements and harboring ill favor towards Egyptians near the border. The war began early January with an air strike on Sudanese landing strips, systematically destroying the few planes the Sudanese actually had. The Mighty Fist of Allah Who Crushes the Infidels fleet has moved into position off the coast of Port Sudan, bringing its full force of air craft upon the entirety of the country. And then Army One moved in from Abu Simbel, Egypt, completely overrunning any and all Sudanese border defenses and penetrating deep down the country. A major battle outside the city of Atbara results in a crushing Sudanese defeat, though the UIS take heavy casualties as well, with 3 infantry divisions completely destroyed. The Battle of Khartoum was just as costly as a UIS fighter/bomber was brought down by AA fire, and another infantry division was lost. Even worse, the Sudanese government escaped before the city fell, fleeing into the desert where they continue to organize resistance, which is likely to last several months.

WAR OF THE MONTH: USSA INVADES CANADA Twin Cities, USSA
Canada, arguably one of the most, if not the most, powerful neutral country was attacked by a relatively weak USSA ground force. The war started when the 1st Artillery Brigade opened up on Canadian installations near the Michigan border, sparking a reaction by Canadian artillery and air strikes against the 1st Artillery and the 1st Motorized stationed nearby. The Flying Aces, a USSA air wing, took to the air immediately to gain superiority around the peninsula and pave the way for the ground assault, but failed in their mission, losing an entire fighter squadron as the Canadian Royal Air Force fights stubbornly to remain in control of their skies. The ground invasion commenced anyways, the 1st Motorized Division moving in from Michigan while the 1st Armored, the stronger of the two divisions, moved in from New York. Recognizing the greater threat, the Canadians turned their full attention first to the 1st Armored, pounding it with fighter/bombers and artillery barrages, and finally driving it out with a motorized division of their own. The Americans lost 2 armored and 2 infantry divisions at the Battle of Toronto. Meanwhile the Canadian’s west flank was left open and fell victim to the 1st Motorized, which rolled in and took the city of Goderich, though not without a fight and casualties (1 mechanized infantry).

Meanwhile the war on the waves goes much better for the Americans as the Atlantic Fleet steams northwards, encountering the Canadian counterpart and fighting the Battle of Halifax. The Canadians were able to damage one supercarrier and sink a destroyer, but at the cost of their entire Atlantic fleet, which included three carriers of their own. In the Pacific the Americans are less potent, but neither are the Canadians. A brief skirmish drove the Canadian fleet from the Victorian coast, giving the Americans the opportunity to shell Vancouver. The Canadian fleet, though, instills fears among many Alaskans that their city of Anchorage may be shelled in retaliation.

SKIRMISH ON HONDURAS BORDER LEADS TO WAR, MEXICO INVADES Mexico City, Mexican Empire
After a small skirmish on the border with Honduras, Mexican officials decide to take matters into their own hands and issued a declaration of war, followed by a full-fledged invasion. First to go were roads connecting army bases with cities and the border, taken out by air force from both land and sea. The 82.a division was first to invade, but after encountering heavy resistance called in reinforcements and were met with the 54.a. Once reinforcements arrived, a push against Tegucigalpa was successful, capturing the capital with but the loss of 2 infantry divisions. For the most part the Honduras resistance is scattered and unorganized, leaving the remaining city of Puerto Castilla open for Mexican advances in February.

JAPANESE EMPIRE REMEMBERS ANCESTRAL CLAIM, INVADES SOUTH KOREA Tokyo, Japanese Empire
Like many other nations this month, the Japanese decided to invade a nation that is almost on par with itself, technologically and militarily-speaking. The South Korean navy was knocked out early in the month by the strong showing of the Japanese fleet, with 4 supercarriers. The landing was a bit more difficult. Even though the Japanese have established air superiority along the southern beaches, the Koreans are well dug in and posses training and technology on par with the Japanese forces. Nevertheless, the Japanese National Army landed and barely took the city of Pusan, establishing for itself a base on the peninsula, though at heavy cost. Four infantry divisions and a gunship squadron was destroyed in the landing.

PRSA SHOWS GREAT STRENGTH IN INVASION OF TANZANIA Pretoria, PRSA
South African forces, numbering in the hundreds of thousands and well trained moved across the border to secure the Republic of Tanzania, a long-time critic of the South African communist nation. The fighting was heavy at first, the long-grass savannah proving to be a well-suited battleground for South Africa’s motorized forces, but eventually the Tanzanians succumbed to the overwhelming numbers and power of the South Africans. Dar Es Salaam and Dodoma, the executive and legislative capitals respectively, have already surrendered to the South Africans. Rebel forces remain in control of the more northern regions of the country, but its only a matter of time before the South Africans exert their full control over the former republic. South Africa lost two infantry divisions in the invasion.

INDIAN EMPIRE INVADES PEACEFUL NEPAL Kathmandu, Occupied Nepal
After being in civil war for nearly three decades, the Nepalese have only been at peace for two years before the Indians decide to get greedy. Trying to keep up with the rest of the world, the Indians launched a full invasion of the small mountain country early in the month. The southern portion of the country, where most of the economy, population, and military are placed, is overwhelmed completely by the First Army and the Motorized Army of India. The Tibetans really did not stand a chance, and most have given up and accepted Indian rule. The capital fell after a short battle (an Indian infantry division was badly damaged during this battle) and the government was taken into captivity. It wasn’t long before they issued a complete surrender for their country. Only problem is the units still fighting in the mountains are hard to get a hold of, and so the war continues.

PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM INVADES LAOS Ho Chi Minh City, PRV
Heavy jungle fighting characterizes the People’s Army of Vietnam’s life in northern Laos. As the Laotians fight the Vietnamese for every bitter mile, the Vietnamese begin to lose faith and numbers for this war (2 infantry divisions already destroyed). At the battle of Louangphrabang, the Laotians are able to force the Vietnamese to withdraw to the northern boundaries of the city. But, while the People’s Army may be suffering setbacks now, the numbers lost for this army are replaceable, and the full power of the growing Vietnamese economy can be channeled through to this war. The Laotians, in the mean time, are fighting at full capacity, with no ability to quickly replace the units that are being slaughtered by the Vietnamese. While next month is expected to be even more bloody than this, analysts expect the People’s Army to make serious gains and the Laotians to fall back.

NOTES:

*das, you spent 4c more than you thought on the 58th Army, but your overall spending was less than you added up in the end, so I just took it from your treasury.

*also, as each update will be a month long, note the season because it will play a factor in fighting. Because I didn’t say this before, I won’t have any negative effects for winter fighting, but next season will play a role.

*When invading a country, you will see small squares pop up in their territory – these are the approximate locations of the enemy’s strongest armies.

*please everyone declare who is running your country.

*Crezth you do not have 3c from stability, as you said in your orders, so I declined to build one mech infantry.

*Lots of you bit more than you could chew this turn. Nations like Canada, Sweden, and even Ukraine and Korea are going to be hard to invade with the limited forces you have now. I am lax this turn, but be prepared for a hard struggle if you continue.

*Lots of you purchased units, organized them in armies, and then in your orders basically deconstructed the armies and made new forces for your tactics. Your units are organized into armies/fleets/wings for a reason, they should stay together when fighting, to tear apart and group up with others. Of course you can group various fleets/armies/navies together, so long as the army as a whole remains intact.

*Skizzak, I assumed you meant South Korea.

*Please everyone check your stats and your neighbors to see if it is correct. All these stats in the same turn took its toll on me, and I’m sure there are going to be problems. For those who have free time, please check Vietnamese, South African, and Indian stats as well, as those were the ones I was forced to do.

*South Africa, Vietnam, and India are open. The first person to send orders for one of them gets it.

*National Goals will be sent out tomorrow.

Your recent moves surprise us. You do know that your century old claims were nothing more than imperialistic ambition beyond your rights. But we will not interfere with your operations just yet. However, if you mistreat your occupied citizen as you have done before, or intentionally break laws of warfare, then China will take action. Also, China will guarentee our hands-off in your occupation if you create a temporary 50 mile de-militarized buffer zone from North Korean border, and your word that you will leave North Korea alone.

Surely reasonable nations such as yourselves see the twins dangers of Vietnamese Communism and Indian Neo-Imperialism, surely an understanding between our respective nations would be desirable in the interests of the region as a whole. Indonesia's issues with Malaysia are merely the resolution of an age old conflict, the result of Imperialist aggression on the part of the British Empire; the Republic has cause to interfere in the internal sovereignty of your respective nations however others are not so scrupulous, Indonesia is yet to see the justification for the Vietnamese and Indian invasions of Cambodia and Nepal respectively.
