Another note: You can not directly invest in diplomatic power, instead you invest in influence in NPCs and your diplomatic power is the sum of invested influence.

The Telegraph Reviews

Australian Exceptionalism: An Experiment in Liberalism
Author: Jonathan Smith

Pages: 527

Historian and political analyst Jonathan Smith's latest book has become very popular (being #1 in sales for books in the 'History' and 'Politics' categories) and has spurred public debate. Jonathan Smith argues that the United States of Australia and New Guinea are exceptional in this new world, taking the mantle from the now defunct United States of America as the defenders of liberalism and individual liberty. He argues that the liberal, multicultural and laissez-faire Australian state is unique in a new world dominated by corporatist, authoritarian, fundamentalist and nationalist states. He calls for a more active foreign policy and for Australia to export its values overseas. The book has been very well received, and rightly so, as it is an excellent read. Critics though have mentioned that both Canada and India are democratic states and that Australian interests are better served by following an isolationist foreign policy. This later criticism is one made by individuals affiliated with the President, who has made it clear that the United States of Australia and New Guinea are not interested in interfering in other regions.

Australia First
Author: Henry Jones

Pages: 435

'Australia First' is another political best seller and one actively supported by individuals affiliated with the President. The President himself has claimed to have found it to be a very good read. Henry Jones argues in favor of a policy of isolationism and strict neutrality. This should not be confused with European and American nativist movements of the early 21st century. Henry Jones is strongly in favor of open borders and multiculturalism. He celebrates Australian liberalism. Whereas though Jonathan Smith argues for the export of those values, Henry Jones argues for a policy of strict neutrality. He believes that entangling the United States of Australia and New Guinea in the affairs of other regions will be a waste of tax dollars and endanger economic growth.

In Defense of the Free Markets
Author: Milton Starwalker

Pages: 860

#1 in sales in the category of 'Economics' and #2 in sales in the category of 'Politics', this latest book of economist Milton Starwalker is another best seller. With the criticism of free market capitalism by authoritarian states in Europe and elsewhere, Milton Starwalker writes a passionate defense of the free markets. He argues that free market capitalism is the only economic system compatible with democracy and the only system that can generate wealth. Critics (especially ones affiliated politically with the Labor Party) argued that the economist is wrong in both cases but the book has been very well received among the public and intelligentsia.

Zau Advert Crest.png

In line of new opportunities, for the expansion of the United Agontrov Clans and the potential rise in trade, the Duke of the Zau, Matuk Jarnpus af Zau, wishes to recruit new factory inspectors to ensure our manufacturers are up to standards.

There is a total of five posts for applicants.

The job will involve inspecting factories to see if up to standards, such as ensuring workers are not covered in smoke, that walkways have not been blocked and that the factory has not caused the surrounding area to go on fire (as happened with the whisky works). We want to be sure our clan workers are well, as well as seeing if the factories are keeping up to clan standards. Remember: the Zau's standards are what keeps us industrial and a healthy worker is a productive worker.

Crying peons make no good workers.

Preamble of the Constitution of the GCC (informally known as Brahm's Manifesto):
The German Christian Coalition is a state for the liberation of the people of the world from Earthly sin in the name of the Lord and Savior, son of God, vanquisher of demons, light of heaven, and holy prophet of humanity, Jesus Christ. The German Christian Coalition (hereafter, GCC) recognizes one god: the Christian God whose existence is evident in the New Testament and the Old Testament; it establishes over the territory formerly occupied by the secular Federal Republic of Germany one single government, empowered by the divine and responsible on earth for the fostering of God's chosen people, and the salvation of their souls.

The NBR army is a modernized strong army. Equipped with the latest, most effective technology, it is a force to be in awe of. It is led the brilliant General Pánfilo Alfaro.

IMG_5569.JPG

A portrait of Pánfilo Alfaro

He is known for winning several major battles while outnumbered during the days of the Christmas plague. He is 35 years old. The NBR army is known for producing exemplary and proven officers, partly because of having its generals personally train candidates. It has a strong navy and a strong Air Force to complement its already strong army. The NBR military is ultimately under the control of its king. It has incorruptible loyalty to him. There is a lot I don't know about the NBR army, partly because of my short visiting tour here, partly because of the NBRs surprising and exemplary capablity of avoiding intelligence leaks. Well, I better get moving. I have a train to catch!

Carlist Kingdom of Spain
L9Z2LdF.png

Government: Anarcho-Syndicalist-Monarchist Federation
Motto: Dios, Patria, Fueros, Rey (God, Fatherland, Local Rule, King)
Head of State: Comrade-King Carlos Javier II de Bourbon-Parma (70 years old)

In 1970 Carlos Hugo de Bourbon-Parma, the head of the Carlist line of pretenders to the Spanish Crown, helped shift the ideology of the historically traditionalist but also regionalist movement, towards a socialist and self managerial ideology. While the party never gained much traction under Franco or the Post Fascist kingdom, following the Christmas Plague however, the Carlist ideology with its heavy focus on regionalism began to appeal to many, including the Basques and the Catalans, as the central government of Spain began to collapse unable to effectively deal with the crisis many of the autonomous communities of Spain were forced to fend for themselves, and old ideologies began to rise. In Catalonia the C.N.T.-F.A.I. began to rise in influence again, reviving revolutionary Catalonia from the Spanish Civil War, however in the neighboring Navarre and Basque country, the Carlists grew in strength.

As the C.N.T. and the Carlists began to clash in north east Iberia they started to realize that their goals were not too dissimilar. They both sought a decentralized, and regionally governed Spain, with heavy amounts of autonomy and independence for the people. While they disagreed on some elements, the two forces decided to form an alliance, and begin close cooperation. Over the years of comradeship the two philosophies began to swap and share their own beliefs and convictions, and they began to influence each other and eventually the C.N.T.-F.A.I.'s anarcho-syndicalism merged with the Carlist's Monarchism and self management. Each ideology's praxis reinforced and defended the other's. From Carlism the C.N.T.-F.A.I. received a stronger rallying cry and glue under a monarchist figurehead to lead the nation, while Carlism gained the syndicalist theoretical and organizational tradition, strengthening their own economic arguments and practice. By 2040 these ideologies have effectively merged and are indistinguishable from each other under the Carlist banner and name.

Now the Carlists control over half of the old Kingdom of Spain, and with the marriage of Carlism to Anarcho-Syndicalism, the future looks bright for this new ideology, as Comrade-King Carlos Javier II rallies his people to continue to expand and unite Iberia, and perhaps elsewhere under its Monarchist Syndicalist confederation.

Softlock

Good work all, we've managed to get almost everyone submitting orders.
If inthesomeday or Tyo want to increase their claims to 12 and if Buttery wants to get orders in then if its in the next couple of hours you might get lucky.

For the rest of you: Update is coming.

(Sorry for the late orders, life sucks right now. Also since I'm new to this please inform me if I'm not participating correctly.)

Temasek has begun plans to scout and colonise the areas in former Thailand, in an effort to support the Heartland's growing populace. The few communities that eek out an existance view the colonisers with a either amicability or hostility. This uncertainly slows down efforts but the various collectives press on.

Our researchers and writers are what bring you the news you want to hear.

Defiant Georgians Declare Sovereign Republic Outside of Turkish borders
Following a number of controversial plebiscites in Georgia the majority of the country decided to join with the Turkish Republic of Turkey in often largely popular local votes. However one state in the region - Adjara - rejected the very notion having a plebiscite and in the months following the integration of Georgia into Turkey it has declared itself as the only state truly representing the Georgian peoples.
The declaration of the Republic of Adjara and its promise to uphold traditional Georgian Orthodox values in the face of Turkish imperialism has resonated with many Georgians and a large number have flocked to the fledgling state seeking a life outside of Turkish influence.

[NPC Republic of Adjara created, Turkey loses 1 Economic Power]

French Theologian Questions Whether the British Have Souls
Gabriel Racine, prominent French Theologian, made a declaration of his dislike for the government's continued dealings with the Agontrov. He expressed concern that the government might want to place what he called monsters on the same level as those who are pure humans. In his treatise laying out these views his main point of argument was the point of continuing debate among the theological community regarding the soul and if non-humans are capable of salvation. Some say this is nonsense and just a rehash of the Do Dogs Go to Heaven question but blown out of proportion, other say that it is key to understanding how France is to interact with not just the Agontrov but also the nations in Sweden and India who have also given up their government to soulless entities.

Conflict Continues in Venezuela
The war has continued for the Maracaibo oil reserves but as of yet no decisive battles have been fought. The less mobile Industrial Suburbs of Maracaibo have been caught out on occasions by Llanos raiders from the mountains however the raiders seem unable to make significant gains against the heavily armed convoys that form the bases of power for Maracaibo. Meanwhile Maracaibo has been training its own strike force under the instruction of military advisers from the PUK. Similarly the Llanos industrial league has received considerable support from the Caribbean Corporate Consortium.

A New Port In the Caribbean
Santiago has long been a centre of trade and power in the Americas but with the latest project of expansion things just keep looking up in the region. Trade and commerce are projected to begin flowing through the city soon and the construction work is already attracting large amounts of investment.

[2 dp needed for the next 2 turns to be spent on construction, bonus of 1 Economic Point per turn while economic dominance lasts]

Swedish Fears over Russian Military Buildup
The Russian Monarchy has continued to build up its armed forces and with its recently acquired border with Stockholm the people of that nation are becoming rather afraid of the Russian might at their door. After asking their AI leader for advice despite it still being in the testing phase the people of Stockholm have decided to approach the Russian government and others looking for a guarantee of continued independence.

[Any Nations can choose to guarantee the independence of Stockholm gaining 1 influence point with them]

Australia Faces Bushranger Crisis

Though the glory days of the bushranger are now centuries past their legacy has always been there in the Australian mindset. Following the Christmas Plague and the resulting erosion of Government authority the romantic ideal of the bushranger started to climb to new heights in Australian culture. Over the last couple of months there has been a notable increase in the number of men and women moving on from their lives in the cities to travel the path of crime.
Those in the Labour opposition blame the Government for being too caught up in policy to realise that their authority was in a steep decline.

[Australia and New Guinea counts as having 3 Less Provinces until the issue is dealt with]

More Cult Activity Unearthed in California
The Septine cult has clearly had a significant grip on the west coast of America for some time now. As the Second Directive forces began to enter the cities it was not uncommon to see the image of the seven pointed star as graffiti on the walls of areas thought to be deserted. The cult seems to be actively practising in some of the coastal settlements and many of the cult leaders in this region seem to have originated in Nouméa.
Meanwhile in Utah 3 more killings have been reported and the culprits as of yet have not been brought to justice.

Roman Engineers Present New Frigate Design for Government Approval
The new design based heavily of the preceding FREMM Bergamini class has been submitted for approval by the Roman Bureau of Shipbuilding. Boasting exceptional anti-submarine warfare and a powerful anti-air suite it is thought to be much more powerful than the Bergamini class.
The majority of nations since the plague haven't invested heavily in naval design and many are using ships that area several decades old. This hasn't really been much of an issue as the low relative population to the world before the Plague has left a large number of highly advanced ships unused and thus available. However this change in paradigm by the Italian navy is making commentators think that perhaps Italy could arise as a new naval power with a significant Blue Water navy to ensure it can easily project power across the globe.

[Rome can commission the new ship type into the navy at a cost of 3 dp for the next four turns. Doing so will give you 2 bonus dp for the next two turns to spend on influencing coastal nations]
