SW9 - Malicious Mali

Just post if you're able to play before you do it, that way if I get my game working tonight, I'll take it if you haven't.

Will do Darwin.

OK I got clearance from the tower so I got it.

Good deal, I'm still having issues with 1.52... gonna try to tweak a few things and see if I can get it up and running to take my turns Sunday.

Here's the save and I will follow with the story tomorrow. We got the GLib, a couple Great Leaders, a bunch of trades and we are making our first caravel. :D Happiness and health are an issue so changing to astro might help with trading. I leave that up to the next player.

I'll grab my 10 tonight. Got the game fixed yesterday, but a RL crisis has kept me away.

Storyline
It was a great period of great culture for the mighty Malinese. The people were great believers in learning, faith and the arts. Over the years every Greek city have converted to hinjewism. The Great Library was a spectacle no civilization could match, two scientists were discovered, one made the academy to go along with the great library in Timbuktu. Later tech were learned through exchanging knowledge with the greeks. Music became a regular daily event in the streets.

But something was missing...there must be something missing to satisfy the people's thirst for knowledge. They knew something else was out there. They needed exploration. There must be something beyond the coasts of the empires. All the scientists were sent to Timbuktu to examine how to make a more seaworthy ship. Bigger sails, using the wind, all of these things were being researched. They hoped to sail the seas...

First, the save.

Darwili rose to magnificence by serving his ruler in Timbuktu. A boy with a special eye for organization, he quickly became a favorite of the lords. In time, his power grew through his ability to work behind the scenes, and creating tasks and processes that masked his true intentions. Some would say that Darwili was the first true bloodsucking politician.

In his rise, Darwili oversaw the completion of the breathtaking Hanging Gardens in Timbuktu, helping the project complete several years earlier than estimated. He then turned to an even greater project, a great cathedral to be called "Notre Dame"

Two brand new caravels were built, one in Kumba Saleh (The Beagle II), the other in Timbuktu (Theory of Glory). The Beagle II sailed East into the uncharted waters, but it was only a few short years before a New World was discovered - with no sign of other people, not even barbarians. Theory of Glory sailed West, finding a land occupied by the Indian people, and making contact with Elizabeth of the English, and Saladin of the Arabs. Trade commenced with the English, but Saladin's people were so backward they didn't even have an Alphabet. Primitives.

As Darwili grew in power, he found himself disgusted and at odds with the lavish spending in Timbuktu. Despite his own machevellian intentions, he could not stomach outright stealing from the gold vault, most of which went to the territorial lords (high maintenance). Darwili was able to enact policies that saw an end to this stealing, but after the construction of the Hanging Gardens, and the subsewuent population boom that followed, corruption returned with a vengeance... but this time it was from Darwili himself. This created a public outcry, with rioting in the streets,

As a last ditch effort to save face, Darwili began the construction of several courthouses to reign in the corrupt. Sadly, he was lynched by an angry mob before these were completed.

His family hopes that history is kind to him, since he did meet new Civilizations and expanded his peoples' knowledge of the world.

Have fun. My turns were fairly uneventful. I think I made a mistake... I used the Great Prophet as a specialist, and realized 6 turns later that we had two holy cities. I'm am soooo sorry on this one.

Good work Darwilii. Nice name for the caravels!! I wouldn't worry about the great prophet. The only thing you could've done is add it to one of our northern cities but even that may not have collapsed the Greek borders.

We do need to spread the hinjew word overseas for trading and reputation purposes.

Thank you. I still feel sheepish, but the super-specialist is helping out Timbuktu. Maybe it was the wrong move in the long run, but for now, the SS was best used in Timbuktu and not one of the border cities. I was going for maximum impact. With aggressive AI, we can't guarantee that Alex will stay non-aggressive for much longer. I definitely think we need a bit more military - we're kinda thin, and just asking for an invasion.

:bump:
