You know about Södertälje? It's home to the unofficial Assyrian national football team. It's been Assyrian/Syriac majority since the 1960's. SAAB has a huge plant that has soaked up loads of "new Swedes". What's going on now is that the other Assyrian/Syriac refugees head for the kin and friends, and in Sweden that largely mean Södertälje. (The big industrial town of Eskilstuna is mostly Finns btw, so that kind of local ethnic make-up isn't entirely unique either just the Syrian angle.) So what happens is that the already established Syrian communit there is taking care of their countrymen.
What are the other Swedes supposed to do? Stop them?
Unless the Big Notion is all Swedes must be blue-eyed and flaxen haired and named Sven and Inga, I don't see any big problem with Södertälje actually. There ARE other communities that pose considerably more challenges though.
Sweden is an imigrant country. We get new groups clustering together. It shouldn't be an ENTIRELY alien phenomenon to Americans, one would think.

I feel kind of evenly skeptical and flattered Sweden seems to loom so large in the imgaination of a number of people. As if some kind of Great Issue of our times might be intimately linked to the place...
I do not think that is the idea. I have been to Stockholm and it looks amazing/preserved, but ultimately Sweden has only 11 million people or something like that, so it cannot be one of the major euro powers... That is more or less the populations that Belgium, Greece, Austria and Bulgaria also have (around 10 million).
