Why was Arrakis revealed?!?! Only 2 people know of it.

Also I did say to make peace with the pirates if they agreed to it. Not blast them to hell when they were actually surrendering!

From The Republic of Ik
To The Vazan

Remove your probe immediately or face destruction. You are violating sovereign Ik space.

OOC: Great update Dis! PMs about the new systems would be appreciated (when you get around to them) :D

OOC: I think the general rule is that if you build a base there, it's revealed.

Reading the update, the pirates weren't going to surrender. Only enter into negotiations.

Arrakis II is our destiny. I don't care if I have to spend the rest of this NES getting off these godforsaken rocks, we're going to Arrakis II!

From the Gardeners
To the Soulon League

We have made a desert, and now we must call it peace.

Deus vult?

EDIT: Ignore the thingy I sent you, Dis.

TO: the Gardeners
FROM: the Soulon League

We have seen tens of thousands die, and unfortunately know millions more await.

We agree that it is time for peace.

“It was an...interesting...experience. Obviously I only had a brief immersion...yes external units only, a kind of reverse mind trawl, no implants...Dr Kim did a very through check up...what? Well if I couldn't have empathy for a people driven from their homes what kind of Jew would I be? So anyway – I think it made me get some crucial insight into that character of theirs...every experience the hive has ever had is always flitting from one mind in the chorus to the next...they never forgive and forget because they never forget...every hurt and lie and pain is refreshed constantly...like that scoured damn moon was just lost yesterday...the sharp tooth monster rends somewhere...I think we need to go over the diplomatic team roster again...can never put one foot wrong...”

i like where you went with that.
you do 'al better then i ever did.

OOC: Relatively minor details to be corrected: there should only be one population point on Gemstar II while there should be an additional population point still on the colony ship orbiting Horn III.

Thanks dis! :)

Spoiler The Lantian – Ik Treaty of Friendship :
The Lantian – Ik Treaty of Friendship

In the aftermath of the arrival of the Ik colonial fleet to Arrakis, the Republic of Lantian was very interested in maintaining both cordial relations with the Republic of Ik as well as ensuring that the territorial claims of both parties would continue to be recognized. As such, a Treaty was drawn up and agreed to by both nations.

1. Expressing the sincere desire of the Republic of Ik and the Republic of Lantian to cooperate in the exploration and colonization of the stars,

2. Stating the continued peaceful intentions of the Republic of Ik and the Republic of Lantian towards each other,

3. Recognizing the sovereignty of each respective state,

4. Acknowledging the desirability for the continuation of mutually beneficial relations,

5. The Republic of Ik agrees to not send ships, probes, personnel or any other objects or living organisms to either the Gemstar or Horn Systems without explicit permission from the Republic of Lantian,

6. With The Republic of Lantian agreeing to do the same to either the Arrakis or Errai Systems without the explicit permission from the Republic of Ik,

7. And concluding this Treaty with the desire to come together once more to negotiate in five years’ time and then renew, amend or render void this treaty,

8. The Republic of Lantian and the Republic of Ik do solemnly agree to abide by the points of this Treaty.

Signed,

Timothy Mitzu, President of the Lantian Republic (Republic of Lantian)

Quick notes on terminology - due to the various ways you can sort out the components needed for colonisation I've adopted some shorthand ship designation:

Has Cargo Bays, Engineering Bay, Habitat Section (i.e. can colonise unsupported): Colony Ship
Lacks Engineering Bays (can only move people around not build colonies): Passenger Ship
Lacks Cargo Bays (can't move people on its own, but can build bases, repair stuff, and supply a fleet):Support Ship
Only has a Habitat Section: Garden Ship

Yes Arrakis II is the nicest world in the Tuft (though only by a slim margin)*, though not the one with the highest economic potential, I was wondering if anyone would pick up on the fact that I spoiled this three months ago .

*Note: possibly a lie ;).

I would like to indicate my theoretical interest in starting as a new group on one of the undiscovered systems. I'm just trying to absorb the more complex parts of the rules, like shipbuilding and such.

If this is possible, I'd like to know what you would want from me, dis.

I should have remembered that, but... at least I was paying more attention to trying to help you Dis than already trying to crack the various secrets hiding in space.:)

Based on my communique from dis, I have chosen to play as the SPACE PIRATES.

Or should I say...the PIRATES SPATIALES.

"Piracy is another word for the exercise of freedom." So wrote the great hero Apollinaire Delespacé, Last Tyrant of the Line Worldship Lafitte, Heroic Age founder of La Société de Libérés, crusher of the Root English barbarians and etc, etc...first great Pirate of recorded times. The mythic history of Laterre, that ancient, fictional planet from which humankind supposedly stemmed, has many stories of great pirates, who sailed the world-ocean in their frighteningly primitive carbon-based flotation devices. But we admire such tales, tales of heroes who fought against authority, out of greed perhaps, or out of desire to craft their own world on the fringe of humanity. Remember the words of Victoire Esparel, the famous Empereuse des Pirates of the early Third Age. She famously said, "The fringe of the universe is everywhere, and everywhere the howling wind. Security brings indolence, and indolence, self-destruction. By living desperately on the edge of all things, we cut quite the rakish figure."

The institution of chaos as a society is as novel a concept today as it was some 2000 years ago. But it is not chaos in the purest sense. What we know, and what the fat, drunken peoples grown like plants in their terrariums do not, is that we only seek to overthrow their society because it is stupid and annoying. We do not seek to abolish order, but create a universe that is enjoyable. We do not seek to destroy human society, but to create one where individuals can be just that, and cause as many explosions as they see fit to cause. This is why the pirate will always exist, because we are a beloved parasite. In all their supposed revulsion, those upon whom we prey truly wish to be like us.

So yes, we are a strange society, though our way of life seems natural to us. Each man his own master, forming associations by bonds of respect and admiration, not by the diktat of a distant oligarchical authority. We take from those less fortunate than us, because we, as humans, have the right to build our own paradise. We are simply better than the planetbound cows.
