SysNES 1: A Murky Pool of Light

From Metatron Vladimir Gehenna

Soulon!

Know these words to be true! I speak with the full authority of the Garden and it's Gardeners. Falsehood is beneath me, for the truth is in accordance with God's will. And it is my purpose to relay His will.

Twice have the Gardeners sought naught but peace with you. Twice have we turned our pursuits to peace and prosperity, in the hope that you would do the same. Twice have we reached a height only dreamed of before, twice all the glory of the Third Age seemed within reach once again.

Twice have we been betrayed! Twice have the Shadow Lords of Kaus struck against our peaceful civilization, pre-meditated, unprovoked, their blows veiled in trickery and deception. Twice have those who knew nothing but cultivation been forced to turn their plowshares into swords. There shall not be a third!

Your government has defiled his holy places with blood, with pollution, with all the fell instruments at its disposal. It has sought to block the Voice of God, with a lead curtain of silence matched in its insanity only by its ineffectiveness. It has struck against His guardian, blasphemed against His truths. Its work is laid out clearly in the bodies that litter the streets of the Third World, in the cancer-ridden children that fill your schools, in the warships that filled the skies of defenceless Kaus II.

I am the Voice of God. I am His instrument. I am empowered to carry out His work.

And I shall.

If the Soulon League does not withdraw every soldier, every government official, and every ship from Kaus III, and end its dominion over that planet, then it shall be punished. It's fleets will be smote from the sky, its cities bombarded from orbit, and the wreckage of its failed government strewn across the solar system.

Deus Vult!

"It is with great pleasure that I can now announce that the mining of Nathrasil will begin in the coming year, the Government's funding of the Habitat has been the only reason that we have been able to access this great resource in the middle of the Zavi System. With the mining facilities here we can see a 25% increase in system output, this will put us a good way ahead of the Vazan, and from what we know of the foreign powers in different systems they are but saplings in the shadow of our great oak [1]."

Vazan-Kation Minkar System Agreement

Ensuring that a cordial relationship is maintained between the peoples of Zavi we are extending our agreements to the Minkar system.

As Minkar IIIa is the friendliest to life planet in the system it will be split evenly between the two parties. Furthermore both parties share equal responsibility for ensuring that the weak biosphere and atmosphere is maintained.

The inner system of Minkar I, Minkar II, Minkar III and its moons (except as mentioned above will go to the people of Vazan.

The Outer System of Minkar IV and Minkar V will go to the Kations, except the case of Minkar IV where half the planet will be accessible by the Vazan and the case of Minkar IV e where the Vazan will have one third of the planet. This is for the purpose of extracting valuable resources and studying novel biologicals.

I'm glad I put the two sneaky robots (useful insults - Vazan are pornbots and Kations are scornbots) on the edge of the game space so there is no choice but epic battles against machine domination ;).

From The Republic of Ik
To Metatron Vladimir Gehenna and the Senate of the Soulon League

The Ik government denies its involvement in this so called "warning" of the Soulon League. We maintain are neutrality and will continue to do so without fail.

Interesting claims, you do remember the Ik discovered the system at the same time as the Vazan though? High faluting documents don't mean much comapred with boots on the ground...

Yes very interesting indeed.

From The Republic of Ik
To The Vazan and Kations

While we respect both your nations, we must protest not being consulted on the division of the Minkar system.

Ensuring that a cordial relationship is maintained between the peoples of Zavi we are extending our agreements to the Minkar system, and the fact that a people known as the Ik have contacted the Vazan government we have an updated treaty to put up.

The Inner system of Minkar I to III are to go to the Vazan

Except where the 2 habitat slots on the planet of Minkar IIIa will be under the control of the Kation and one slot under the control of the Ik.

Except where the Ik will have a single slot on the planet of Minkar IIIb

The Outer System of Minkar IV to V will go to the Kation

Except where a habitat slot on Minkar IV will be given to the Vazan

Except where 2 habitat slots on Minkar IVc will be given to the Vazan

:( Stupid peacefulness - I hope at least one of you is going to engage in a little pushing of the limits.

Maybe I should just drop an Aggressive Hegemonising Swarm Object into the fishtank to liven things up ;).

OOC: Great update! Sorry for the delayed responses, but I'm currently in Northern California and thus have limited access to the internet.

Dis, I need a response to my PM before any orders can be sent. I'm really sorry! :(

On Board the Remus
Corsair Class Command Ship of the Kation Space Fleet

Asuryan was the Communications Officer of the Remus, and on a ship with as much computational power as the Remus his position was very important.

Like the rest of the crew he had limited personnel space just a bunk in the mess and as an officer a bit more bunk space. There was little formality on the ship, even the captain was bunked with the rest of the crew, although he was awarded much more computational power for entertainment VR something that all the crew could jack into (The Remus's memory banks had an extensive array of entertainments and simulations that could be jacked into, although the pornography was quite tame compared to some of the stuff the Vazan broadcasted [1] in Zavi).

His bunk was also his primary workspace whilst the Remus was in combat, the lying down position allowed for greater g's to be endured which helped the Remus when manoeuvring [2]. In non-combat situations Asuryan was primarily in the Computational Lab, which housed both the mainframe and emergency access to the Sensor and Charm drive. Whilst the Remus had been designed to be controlled almost entirely from Kations being jacked into the ship, the Engineers had pushed everyone to ensure that proper safety requirements were met. These self same engineers had put emergency Tritium lights everywhere, this along with the lack of escape pods had worried some of the...less educated...Kations back home. The Radiation was perfectly safe, the process was well understood. The lack of escape pods had been attacked from almost every angle possible. The most popular; what if the Fusion core malfunctions? Eject the core NOT the crew! Other situations always came up against the problem of an escape pod with a tiny delta V [3] and low supplies of Oxygen, food and water.

The food was as uninteresting to look at as the recycler design team could get away with. They had eventually settled on an algae cycle, it took up less room than a hydroponics and the capability existed for feeding fish or other seafood algae as a luxury item, which did not exist on what was primarily a part of the military. The algae itself WAS engineered to give flavour, but the texture and consistency had led to the creation of "Realfood Simulator V0.1.42" and was one of the most popular simulations used. Thus the mess often had crew hooked into the simulation at the same time as they consumed food.

Asuryan's motto had become, "If its a problem, simulate it. If you miss it, simulate it. If its an emergency, pull your head out your arse". Which was in stark contrast to the Engineering crew who's main work area was the closest to the fusion core and ion drives. If something went terribly wrong with the former and all else had failed it was the unenviable responsibility of the Head Engineer to go in and fix it, and if that failed, THEN the core would be ejected. The Head Engineer was always teaching his Second, just in case.

However, the Engineers also had the most fun, they were able to go out and construct the military base around Minkar IIIa, they were the first Kations ever able to eyeball the planet. Asuryan had gone to the base to ensure the computer systems worked but his job was quite limited and the captain really wanted him to remain on the Remus. Their next mission was to build an alpha on one of the ice moons of Minkar IV, the lack of an atmosphere meant that they could build the military base on the surface.

But that was for the Romulus, the Remus's sister ship. Final checks on the Minkar IIIa base were finished and Asuryan had communicated to the Romulus that they could make way to the outer system.

[1] BUT they CAN simulate the porn!
[2] Part of the weird messed up lack of a plot line of the story is because its just an expose of some of the hard science I could get in.
[3] Delta V; basically how far you can move around in space....

Man’s Hopeless Pursuit
“For man to cast away the demons of our age and triumph, the anarchist, the fundamentalist, the liberal, the communist, the conservative and the religious must give way. We cannot be divided from our main purpose: survival. It is the only thing worth left. I care not if my name is cursed, as long as there are still people cursing.”

Richard Fuji, First Prime Minister of the Holy League of Terra

---------------

Ningbao never looked more beautiful. The monochrome mountains had long given way to dome encased habitats. And within them, children lived and frolicked underneath the rays of the Gemstar sun. It was an entire generation that grew up after the Second Tumult and would not know the wonders of the Past Age.

I thought about that as the shuttle took me from Gemstar II to Ningbao. It was a quiet shuttle ride. My escorts remained mum the entire time. Perhaps they had received orders, or perhaps they had simply never seen a non-Lantian. Both were likely. It wasn’t that important to me. It was surprising that I was even summoned back. But politics were always constantly in motion: the President was finishing his second term and pardons were being given out en masse.

I suppose I must have been one of them. It was perhaps a favor to a powerful well-connected or wealthy contributor to his party. But beggars can hardly be choosers: I had been recalled and that was what was important.

“Doctor Rosenthal. The Senator humbly begs your presence at the station for the launching ceremony.”

I looked up from my thoughts-induced stage. The station? What Senator would care about me? The pilot had simply bypassed the soldiers and had addressed me without them. How odd. I was not under the authority of the soldiers then. And I could hardly afford to offend my new patron.

“It would bring much pleasure and joy upon me if the Senator would consider myself worthy of attending such an eminent ceremony.”

The required words and phrases were enough to visibly satisfy him and the pilot retreated into the cockpit. I only sat and simply watched as the shuttle approached the station.

-------------------

“I would have you suspended and subsequently dismissed from the Clan. It was your good fortune that many others did not share my opinion.”

He did not doubt the Elder’s words. His eyes, filled with distaste, were all that was needed to convey the message. But he was still an Elder. And to an Elder, one could naught but turn the cheek. And since he was planning on turning a new leaf, he would have to obey. If things had only turned out differently all those years ago…

He sat quietly. The Clan Elders were in the midst of their discussion, the discussion to decide his fate. He was worried. To be cast from the clan was a punishment worse than death. Without clan, without family, an individual had essentially no one. And if they decided to cast him from the clan, he would be no one.

“You may come in Timothy Mitzu. The Council has made its decision.”

He filed into the room after the guard who saluted the Council and marched out. Taking the chair, he came to look at the collected semi-circle of Clan Elders. Their images broadcasted in from their various banking headquarters across the Hydra Tuft, they had all weighed in on his fate. And now he would have to accept it.

The will of the Council be done.

----------------

“Doctor Rosenthal! It is a pleasure to meet you at last. I have heard nothing but good things about you.”

I strode over and shook his proffered hand firmly.

He was a young man, impeccably well dressed, in the green military uniform of the Integrated Lantian Fleet.

“I hope the ride to the Yuefei was comfortable? The lack of an atmosphere does make shuttle rides generally comfortable, but one never knows.”

“It was comfortable Captain, thank you very much for allowing me abroad your vessel for my small mission.”

He smiled and strolled to another interface. Summoning up several images, he gestured that I come over to see one of the graphs with him. Enlarging it, I could clearly see what it was. It was a simulation of the Horn system. Different colors showed which planets had been given to the Lantian Republic and the ‘Al respectively.

“I am afraid, Doctor, that your role as ambassador to the ‘Al will be far from pleasant.”

“Well then Captain, I will have to simply endeavor to try my best.”

Good evening I’m Safa Badra with your news at 7. Election season is upon us again, not only are there senate and gubernatorial seats up for re-election, but the for the first time since the founding of the Republic, the office of the Prime Chancellor is open. Regarding the election of a new PC, the Rasheed’s Press Secretary has made a public statement in yesterday’s news brief, stating that, after careful consideration PC Rasheed as chosen to not run for re-election. Here is a clip

“Yes the Prime Chancellor has opted to step down as Prime Chancellor at the end of his term. Mr. Rasheed sees the need for a new PC, and while he is confident he has lead the Republic towards prosperity, he wishes also to ensure that the principles upon which this great nation was founded are followed. As the first PC of the Republic of Ik he feels that it is his duty to step down and ensure that there is a peaceful transfer of power to whoever is elected by the people of Ik. Next question…”

The PC still has a few remaining months until his term of office is complete and he, as well as the rest of his cabinet has stated that though he is stepping down as PC, he will exercise all powers necessary to ensure the prosperity and protection of the Republic. Even with this assurance, Rasheed’s announcement to not run for re-election has sent ripples throughout the nation. The Rasheed faction, which the PC crafted himself, seems to be falling apart at the seams. Many of their members long knew that the faction was only held together by the political will of Rasheed and without him, few believe that the faction stands a chance. As if to answer the call and fill the void, the new Colonialists faction have begun to form, taking numerous seats from the Rasheed and Hassan factions.

The Colonialists themselves have been lead out of the darkness and into the light by the popular Fatih Mehmet. Possibly the youngest senator, and indeed the youngest person to even run for the PC seat, Mehmet has catapulted ahead of his competors. Rasheed faction favorite Abdul Hammass trailing Mehmet by an incredible 20 points, while Hassan and Solani faction candidates have barely garnered enough support to be eligible for the running. Even none Colonialists have been throwing their support behind Mehmet. Despite his seemingly meteoric rise to popularity, the question still remains, can this brash young man lead the Republic? As one would guess, many have called into question his lack of experience and the fact that he has only served in the Senate for 2 years. Yet this has not stopped millions from flocking to the Mehmet banner, although some may do it for less political and more… physical reasons.

In a joint statement from the IEP and NISF, a final report has been made on the long awaited off-system colonization attempt. Neither agency divulged the destination of the colonial fleet, however it was confirmed that the Al-Qiyammah would be accompanying the fleet to ensure its safety. The colonial fleet is scheduled to depart from Taik by May 14th as nearly all aspects of the government scramble to ensure that all the required last touches are made. In a surprise announcement, PC Rasheed has released a statement confirming rumors that he would be accompanying the colonial fleet on its journey. Indeed sending the colonial fleet out of Errai shall be his final act as PC. General Shafid Hawazi, commander of the colonial fleet is here via satellite to hopefully shed some light on the history voyage. Thank you for joining us today General, I know you have a busy schedule.

<Yes, things are a bit hectic here but I felt it was my duty to make a statement to the public>

So general what to you expect to find when you reach this mysterious system

<Well we have already sent a probe to the system to scout it out and we have very accurate maps of the worlds, we shouldn’t run into any problems>

I know the IEP and DSRT declined to comment, but are you able to tell us what system you will be going to?

<I’m sorry Safa, but that is currently classified information. However it will be released in due time, possibly a few months after the system security has been ensured>

I see. What are your thoughts on the Prime Chancellor joining the fleet?

<I am truly honored that Mr. Rasheed would choose to join us on this historic voyage. I can’t tell you how happy the crew was when it was announced. A great moral booster to say the least>

What can people in on Taik, and everyone all over the Republic, expect to see come back with you on your return voyage?

<Well we aren’t very sure ourselves, you know, it’s the unknown in that area. We did get very good scans from out probe but it is anyone’s guess what we find when we actually get down on the worlds. With that in mind I’d like to say that the crew of the colonial fleet won’t be visiting home for quite some time, possibly more than 3 years. While it will be a long time before we see the benefits from colonization back home I want people here to understand that once we establish ourselves, we will be able to expand extremely rapidly.>

Thank you General, that’s all we have time for. My heart goes out to all the soldiers and crew who will be joining the colonial fleet. You carry the hopes and dreams of our people with you, thank you.

<My pleasure>

That was General Shafid Hawazi, leader of the colonial fleet. TBC will have live coverage of the maiden voyage of the colonial fleet, including an exclusive look inside Colonial 1, the Yasammek class ship that will make this long journey all possible.

On a lighter note, after a closed trilateral talks between the Ik, the Vazan, and newly discovered nation the Kations, have yielded a truly lucrative treaty. The last treaty signed by the PC Rasheed, the Minkar System Agreement has been heralded as the first step by the Ik government in establishing lasting relationships between nations outside of Errai. The treaty has reserved a sizable portion of Minkar IIIa, a lovely biosphere moon and its companion moon of IIIb. A report has yet to be released by the IEP and NISF, however a spokesperson from both agencies have confirmed that it will be coming out in as soon as 3 days.

That’s all for News at 7, I’m Safa Badra for TBC, now turning it over to sports with Mohammad Hassan, Mohammad?
