Takeo takes on Deity

1180AD
233-refining.JPG

Research set to Steel; due in 6 turns.
Some oil is already connected. Now, just need to gain the ability to build some modern 'playthings'.;)

1190AD
235-amatkilu_deposed.JPG

This is a size-4 town and there were 2 riflemen defending it. They would get one free, did they buy the other one? The town is retaken without loss.

Hloblane was captured on the previous turn and now part of that impi SOD has moved on the mountain above it. Good thing there is a load of artillery in Hloblane!
236-arty_vs_impi.JPG

Lost a cavalry army in northern Zululand.:(

Found out where some of the other impi went. Attacked New Bapedi(capital) and killed 4 riflemen, 1 cavalry and 9 impi.
238-New_bapedi_captured.JPG

Just north of newly captured New Bapedi is Bonn, with no culture. Right outside of Bonn is a rifleman, 2 pikemen and a musketman that are too late to fulfill their duty.
239-bonn_attacked.JPG

New Intombe, Bonn and Isandhlwana are all captured in quick succesion.:hammer:

1190AD
Peace is made with Shaka, in order to get the far-flung jungle towns and an island town out of the way. France receives half of Shaka's 12 cities.
243-zulu_peace.JPG

War is immediately redeclared. But, war-weariness goes up.:(

1200AD
New Ngome is the new Zulu capital. As my cav armies bear down on the city, 7 riflemen and 3 impi come out of the city(during the interturn). Shaka has failed to teach how to defend. The city is more easily taken!
244-sortie_from_ngome.JPG

Dortmund is captured and the other 3 towns shown below are razed.
246-dortmund_captured.JPG

There is 1 Zulu city left, but it can't be reached this turn.

1210Ad
The last Zulu city, New Berlin, is within striking distance.
250-new_berlin_razed.JPG

New Berlin is destroyed and.....no pop-up? Arrrgghh!

Shaka still has a settler somewhere.:wallbash:

World Map

Shaka must be desperate!
252-egypt_zulu_peace.JPG

Notice that Babylon has a chunk of change, so a trade is made.
253-refingin_to_baba.JPG

Mr. Bond sneaks into Egypt.
254-spy_in_thebs.JPG

Egyptian army totals-:egypt:
255-egypt_army.JPG

Going to need tanks and a big stack of artillery.
:ar15: :spear:

1230AD
Shaka has definately got his ambassadors out!
256-china_zulu_peace.JPG

Babylon got Steel 1 turn before me.:(

The Zulu will finally meet with me.
257-peace_w_zulu.JPG

1230AD Contd.
258-egypt_declares_war.JPG

Well, this will be quite a bit tougher than Germany or Zululand! I'm used to conquering the world with cavalry and fighting against musketmen and riflemen, but very rarely infantry. Have very little experiance with tanks and bombers being used against me. It also is not a familiar sight to see an entire enemies land railed like egypt is below.
266-egypt_railed.JPG

Try to bring Babylon into an alliance vs. Egypt, but nothing to offer. So, Japan and China are bribed into this new conflict.
260-japan_alliance_vs_egypt.JPG

261-china_allianve_vs_egypt.JPG

French cavalry attack the Egyptian city of New Mendes and trigger an MPP.
262-mpp_russia_triggered.JPG

New Mendes, New Kahun and Smolensk are all razed and infantry is encountered for the first time at New Kahun.
263-new_mendes_razed.JPG

All core cities are switched to artillery, they will be needed against infantry.
:hammer:

1240AD
The Zulu are not at war with anyone now.
267-zulu_amer_peace.JPG

Now, just sit and wait for the Zulu settler to come out of hiding.

Egypt and Russia have an existing MPP that comes into effect.
268-russia_declare_on_jap.JPG

It would be nice to be able to sell this, but Babylon got it last turn.
269-steel.JPG

Research set to Combustion in 7 turns.

1250AD
Some French artillery have been bombarding passing Egyptian ships down to red and Japanese ships have been finishing them off. Thanks for the assist!
270-naval_battle1.JPG

1265AD
272-baba_amer_peace.JPG

China and France are the only ones at war with America now. There are a few more turns left on the alliance I have with China. After that ends, I will make peace with America. At war with Egypt now and they have cities inbetween me and American lands.

Shaka has made an appearance and Umfolozi is founded.
273-zulu_found.JPG

For 20g his town is investigated and has a decent garrison. Will wait a couple of turns to move forces into position and then eliminate the Zulu in one turn!

1275AD
Babylon has beaten me to Combustion by 1 turn.:(

The attack on Umfolozi commences...
275-zulu_attavked.JPG

1280AD
Too bad Babylon already has this.
276-combust.JPG

Research set to Flight in 9 turns. Expensive tech! A bunch of my weaker coastal cities that were building artillery are switched to destroyers or cruisers.

1285AD
This is not helpful; need them to be at war with each other. Instead of fighting each other, all their units will come my way.
277-egypt_amer_peace.JPG

1290AD
During the interturn, China gets ganged up on.
278-babs_egypt_vs_china.JPG

It is finally time to give this ages long quasi-war a rest! And then maybe a little bribing action!
279-amer_peace.JPG

It is so much better giving luxuries than tech.
280-amer_me_vs_egypt.JPG

French workers have finally built rails thru the jungle to Egypt.
281-jungle_railed.JPG

New Asyut and New Matsuyama are shelled by arties and cav armies finish off a couple of egyptian infantry in each.
282-new_asyut_shelled.JPG

Both Egyptian cities are razed to the ground.
283-new_asyut_razed.JPG

1290AD Contd.
While I'm looking everything over and preparing to end the turn, I see Louis Pastuer(my science leader) sitting in Paris. Had forgotten about him. There are no wonders to build and any in the modern age can be built using a pre-build. So, why don't we try out a science age. Have heard it said several times that the science age is worthless, but I really don't have anything to lose here. Click on 'ol Louis and tell him to start researching.
284-science.JPG

Took some before and after shots in the F1 screen, to compare any difference this science age causes. In the red circles it shows the turns to go dropping by just 1 turn. Not much, but it helps. The yellow circles show my upkeep changing. Had no idea that we paid upkeep for leaders! The blue circle shows the science now turned up to 90%, at a 298gpt loss, to get Flight in four turns. Well, I wanted to try it out and now it's done.
285-dashbourd.JPG

1295AD
Three more Egyptian cities are razed to make room for a 'Funnel of Doom'.
289-new_nagasaki_razed.JPG

1300AD
SirPleb used this in his HOF Sid game and he called it the 'Funnel of Doom', or at least that is what I remember it called. It requires you leaving a city wide open for attack and all of your units create a path for the enemy to follow and your cavalry can take potshots at them as they pass. The two red circles in this picture are where the Egyptian cavalry should stop, if this was set up right.
290-funnel_of_doiom.JPG

1300AD
Only 3 Egyptian cavalry show up. Shoot, I wasn't thinking. Egypt has been at war with America for ages and now at war with Japan also. There are probably no excess units to send at my trap. Also, SirPleb was using it on Sid where there are enormous amounts of units.
291-3_egypt_cavs.JPG

1310AD
Flight should have come in this turn. Last turn there was 1 turn remaining on research. The 1 turn that was gained with the science leader is gone. What a waste!:( There is the one time that I will try that.

Egypt sent a few more units my way(6 cavalry & 6 infantry), but now Babylon has thrown a wrench into my plans by building New Nimrud right next to some of my units.
292-new_nimrud.JPG

The Egyptian cavalry are taken out and then my units are rearranged, to stay out of Babylon territory.
293-rearrange.JPG

1315AD
The dawn of a new era of warfare is upon us.:)
294-flight.JPG

Bombers with lethal bombardment. Woohoo!
Research is set to Mass Production in 4 turns.

Babylon has some money laying around for me to take. France and Babylon are the tech leaders, everyone else is 3-5 techs behind.
295-flight_to_baba.JPG

Egypt layed out a handful of cavalry for the arties to bombard. After that was taken care of, the 'Funnel' was abandoned, and most units sent south. A Dozen armies, around 100 artillery, 25 cavalry and 15 infantry are sent towards the nearest Egyptian city. Thereafter these units will zigzag back and forth thru the Egyptian outer core. Thebes and the Egyptian inner core are just south of this picture.
296-attack_plan.JPG

1320AD[/B]
The first bombers roll off the production line and are promptly sent to the Egyptian theatre of war.
297-first_bombers.JPG

Going to try to build as many as possible in the next few turns, cause once Motorized Transportation comes in, most cities will be churning out tanks.

1330AD
The first French bombing run is in the face of 79 American cavalry, charging south towards Egypt. There are two ways south to Egypt; one is blocked by me and the other one(seen here) must go thru some Babylonian cities.
299-bombing_run.JPG

1335AD
Mass Production comes in. Only one more tech to go, turn off research for a while and go all bliztkrieg on a few AI.
302-mas_prod.JPG

Research set to Motorized Transportation, on tap in 4 turns.

Very curious to where Babs is getting all this cash.
306-massjprod_to_baba.JPG

A pillaging cavalry army, way down south in Egypt, spots an excellent target of oppurtunity. Unfortunately, the army has no moves left to take it out.
304-egypt_leader.JPG

Over the last few turn the following Egyptian cities have been burned to the ground.:hammer: :ar15:
298-new_heiraconoplois_razed.JPG

The arty/cav army combo has been working well on size-12 cities, or smaller. We'll see what happens when a size-13+ is encountered.
