1340-1355AD
The French-Egyptian War
The war with Egypt has gone rather well, with almost no loss of life(for France
). Before sending any military units in, I decided not to spend time quelling resistance and tieing down units protecting cities. All Egyptian cities were to be burned to the ground and the dreaded culture-flip would be avoided alltogether. Thus far, Egypt has lost over 20 cities, including the capital of Thebes.
At the beginning of this war, the captured Egyptian population was put to work chopping down jungle in former Zululand. But lately the line of prisoners has faded away, without explanation. The rumor going around is that some of the top cavalry generals are having the Egyptian citizens executed. One general supposedly said "My men would rather attack than spend time as guards." This rumor has yet to be confirmed.
This worldmap shows Egypt before the war started in 1230AD.
and now the worldmap in 1355AD, after the fall of Thebes.
A big dent has been made in the Egyptian empire!
The Siege of Thebes
A large stack of artillery, infantry and several cavalry armies razed Thebes to the ground in 1355AD. The battle is most notable for Cleopatra scurrying away before the French military surrounded the city. Cleopatra, in the picture below, is covered by her elite War Chariot bodyguards as she escapes to the west.
Scientific Progress
In 1355AD, French scientists had a breakthru. Motorized Transportation was discovered and the Modern Age was ushered in.
Science is turned off and gold will now be used to purchase armies. Any hired scientists have been retrained as taxmen. A total of 81 cities in former Germany/Zululand have been building Civil Defense Centers, since they were founded. These stored up shields are now turned into tanks. Any excess gold can be used to purchase these as needed, at about 150-300g apiece, after taking the stored-up shields into account. Sun Tzu's Art of War was taken over, with the capture of Berlin, so all of these tanks will be veterans!
World News
Babylon and Japan are now allies.
Have been trying to get Babylon into an alliance vs. Egypt for a while, to no effect. Suddenly, in 1350AD, Babylon declares all on their own.
