So no WMDs..... I don't know I don't think the cure for cancer is worth my extra CPU time if none of it will go towards WMDs

I'm studying physics, when I've finished I intend to make an antimatter bomb that will destroy not only the Earth but the most of the solar sytem too..... unless they give me one Trillian Dollars! Your welcome to send funds to help my efforts if you like pm me :)

I'm going to check if it'll run in the background with games for academic purposes, just to see what if... seems to be a pretty symbiotic relationship so far.

EDIT: It dislikes Morrowind, Hadly surprising I've got it running on a very high resolution. But it seems to have no issues with Civ:Warlords, which is nice :)

Cow river start sweet :)

The program made my computer crash, so I had to turn it off. :(

Not like it matters. It would've taken 1000 days to finish a single work unit.

puglover you've already contributed one WU.

The little device has been running for about 5 hours now, it has told me the I hope accurate finish date. 3 days from now :)

The program made my computer crash, so I had to turn it off. :(

Not like it matters. It would've taken 1000 days to finish a single work unit.

The initial estimate on completion time is always crazy-high, after a few hours it settles to a realistic estimate.

Still 3 days. In theory I could leave the computer on overnight, but the fans are so loud I wouldn't sleep. They whine too, crappy bearings.

The following image shows our current score - it updates automatically from the extremeoverclocking folding site which updates from the stanford site so it should be pretty much up to date. Would it be worth adding to the first post?

t=47958

The Work Units vary greatly in size (and point value) and right now there seem to be a lot of large ones. I've had them finish in as little 10 hours on an old system and take as much as a week on a fairly fast system. If you're interested you can see how much credit your current WU is worth here, and based on that can get a general idea of how long it will take to finish.

Three days for a WU is about right. That shows how complex the equation you are solving really is when it takes a modern CPU three days to compute an answer. Even having your system on just during the day would still be helpful as most WUs have a deadline that is at least a month or two from when you receive them. If you sent a WU every six days you would still be doing just fine.

--------

Ah, all right. I guess I'll turn it back on then.

It shouldn't crash your system. It can run in the background for months and you should never even notice it. If you have problems maybe someone here can help.

And a welcome to everybody that has joined. :)

If there is a problem it tends to close itself when finished. Mine has not made the error since a couple months ago. There is a forum that can help if the computer itself crashes after a couple WU.

Hey this stupid thing makes my laptop get all hot and bothered which in turn makes the fan go on super-high which in turn heats up my room which in turn annoys me and it probably takes a lot of energy ($) to run so long story short i'm outro cancer can cure itself.

You can always turn down how much speed it works at so your laptop doesnt over heat.. i set mine to about 70%

Wow... with all the new folks and not-so-new folks pushing much higher point totals, not only have we completely left DailyKos and ArchLinux in our wake, and fended off MySaoirse (helped by the latter dropping from 30k per day to 5k per day suddenly), there are now only three teams listed as behind us but catching up - and the third one is projected to do so in 18.5 years.

If you have the desktop version with the icon in the taskbar you just right click the FAH icon, pick 'configure', and in the configure window you pick the 'advanced' tab and then adjust the CPU usage percentage. :)

It's at 100%, that's good I suppose, not experiencing any slowness :P

Yes, it's not supposed to slow down anything, it automatically turns itself off when other programs need cpu power. But if the computer gets too hot it's a good way to run it cooler. There's also a setting for it not to run on laptops when they're running on battery power.
