Half done. nearly 10000/20000, should be done by mon.:)

Abaddon, since you started them, any chance you could find the old threads and link them here? :please:

Your Wish is my command.. though i do start a fair few threads so it could take a while!?!

My progress just backtracked :( , It was at 8000 last night, now it's at 7250. Oh well.

In a program this complicated I supose it makes mistakes and then goes back a bit to correct them? Should be done by monday at this rate though :) Only on by day, and then not during the week only in the evening, but it seems to be enough.

I'm hoping that this run will be successful, as it has reached over 90% now.

Deep joy :) Third time lucky. Either the reboot I did for an OS X security update fixed it, or they fixed something in the core.

I never keep my display open, only time I do it is to see the progress.

Can anyone else confirm the OpenGL comment then?

Official Forum

You don't have to have the display open, just it running is enough to cause the problem. The F@H forum says it's a problem with OpenGL, not the folding client, so they can't fix it themselves. You can switch to the console client instead of the graphical client, but you'll need to know how to use the command line. Instructions are linked in the post.

Well, they *could* fix it themselves. I guess that means they just hide the display when you close it, instead of closing the program that creates it.

The console client requires pretty much zero technical knowledge, but anyone having trouble with it, PM me - I've installed it fifty or sixty times... :)

gawd this is taking ages now on my laptop... remeber for the last few months i have been back folding... only just reached 9000/20000!

Now the stupid folding malware virus spyware crap is running without the icon so i cant turn it off because it knows i hate it and want to turn it off so now my CPU is at 100% again and my computer is all hot and bothered by it. and i cant turn it off without restarting my computer which would interrupt a very important download that cant be interrupted.

this program sucks! down with folding!

Did you switch over to the console client? If so, stopping it is as simple as "Start > Run" type "services.msc" into the run box and click ok. Your services manager will appear, where you just need to find the FAH client and stop it.

I recently started folding, and sometimes when I bring up the window it causes my computer to crash very badly. No mouse or keyboard badly. I am very close to uninstalling it.

Processor-usage-wise it is better than I expected. It truly does run at lowest priority and does not slow anything down. Memory usage is forgettably low as well. Too bad it crashes, and takes the computer with it.

F@H can sometimes uncover problems with your system, even if it isn't to blame for it. Check that your drivers are updated, especially the video card, run anti-virus, etc. If you still have problems but would like to keep folding, you can try the console client, which sometimes runs happier.

I too also would suggest looking elsewhere for the base cause of your problem. I have read the know bugs threads on the official forum and this doesn't sound like any reported problem. Sometimes the folding program can be just enough to tip an already unstable system over the edge and get it to start misbehaving.

The processor usage should be 100% unless you set it otherwise, and for most WU types it doesn't take much memory.

If you want to tell us a little about your system and which client you are running and maybe someone here can help. :)

You could just avoid bringing up the window? You can still see the progress by hovering your mouse over the icon, as well as on the CFC team page..

Calling BS on that one, no offense. Causing problems is causing problems, and I'm quite clean (see below). It would be far too much of a coincidence for it not to be responisible.

My system is only funny in that it divides the processor in 2 and keeps 50% of it busy instead of 100%. Other than that it's a week-old install of XP Pro with all updates and protections. I haven't had spyware problems in years on my older XP install. I keep things clean.

That's what I've been doing, since. If it hurts when you bend it like that, don't bend it like that, says the doctor. If I don't touch it, it seems okay, but I really don't like my PC crashing.

If it is a clean install then maybe there is a driver issue?

Are you using Hyperthreading as that is a special case with regard to folding.

I think I've managed to get a second client running (after realising I actually had a 2 core system!) - one graphical, and one console both set to a different ID number.

Any tips on the console version - if I check on progress then I seem to stop it when I close down the window - is that right? I think that I have it set up to run when I restart the machine, but how do I check that its running OK

Here's the wiki for help. You don't have to have the console window open, if you want to check your progress browse to the folder you installed F@H in, there should be a text file named FAHlog, it might have some numbers on the end. This will show your current progress.

On a side note, whoever's folding under the name anonymous is welcome to join the taper team. I have several people helping me, and you'd be a great addition.
