None that I've seen, other than my electricity bill is probably higher as my Mac runs continuously now.

I am warning you all,my computer is really new, got it last july, feel my mighty CPU!

Awww, this is such a good idea!

EDIT: When I go to join up, it says something about credits... this isn't like buying is it?

No buying involved. You just give, give, give ... your spare CPU cycles. Make sure you set your team number up to 47958 in the F@H client. You should do this before you've started to fold your first unit, otherwise the credit for that unit will go into the big anonymous bucket..

That and during the summer i would reccomend setting the limit at say 50% otherwise if you forget to turn the pc off it just carries on running at 100% getting hotter and hotter, i hear this isn't so good for your pc :)

My Mac runs 24 x 7 with no limit on folding load, and its CPU chip temps are a constant 23 degrees C above ambient. So at a stifling 40 degrees room temp they'd still be comfortable at 65 degrees. Can't see them hurting until my study hits temperatures where the fire brigade would be in attendance.

Welcone to CFC folding. Now let's lick some ass! With a shiny new CPU I expect you to beat me handily, Now get to it!~

My rust bucket computer is up and running. :p Good news, I think, my WU which said it would take until Sept, now says it will be done this Wed.! :) Maybe it was just getting warmed up and really got going? I'm new to using the computer for actually computing and not games so I don't know.

Here's another question to informed folders, will the program start up internet to send the results back or should I manually turn it on?

And thanks again AlanH for the quick response!

Can't help you with that one, I'm afraid. I have an always on DSL Internet connection, and I don't run Windows. So I'm unqualified on all counts.

I'd imagine a little box would come up asking to connect when it is done, in the same way which other programs that would need internet connections ask to be connected every now and then.

The time to complete estimate is usually way off when a work unit is first started. After it's been running a few hours it usually becomes way more accurate.

I'll say, my new estimate is -5 hours :crazyeye: Unless they've invented time machine at home I think it may be off just a bit.

BTW, if there is anyone else that might be confused about my own questions from above, the program tries to access every few minutes and when an internet connection is finally established it sends and receives, so constant internet is not needed and the program can't launch the internet for you. :)

Edit: Am I going to get added to the team list now?

You will show up on the list when your first WU is completed and uploaded back to stanford. After the upload it does take a bit of time for the next database update to be published. Though this doesn't take more then a day. The stats http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com are updated ever 3 hours from Stanford's stat server.

I think he may mean the list in the first post here. He's already in Stanford's list.

I'll add you, since i am nice like that.. ;)

Doesnt help i cant even remeber the last time i folded since my laptops been faulty for years now.. :(
