And i just broke the tie with a vote for the Child Care tech. :mischief:

And now it's a 3-way tie again ;)
I love draws!

I voted for the Hordes of Darkness, and it comes as no surprise to me that it's losing... Everyone who I vote for loses, it seems.....

Hmm.... This gives me some ideas

 I'm not sure whether i should be pleased by your vote or not ;):D

Sorry, man, didn't mean to jinx you..... Next time I'll vote for someone whom I don't like and keep my mouth shut, but only if they are winning at the time....

remind me to stay in your good books Hikaro ;)

That doesn't sound very nice!

And what happens if you like all the entries? Will you abstain?

I'll just wait until the last day of voting, since, by then, any jinxing that I could do would have little or no effect anyways.....

I was just kidding (unless The Thud posts an entry.....), so relax... It just seems that bad luck follows me wherever I go, and I've long since learned to only enter competitions where Skill, rather than Luck is the main determining factor in who wins and loses.

The reason I didn't catch on very fast with these ones is that I THOUGHT it was based on unit/LH/whatever-making skill, but it just seems to be 50% popularity contest, about 30% luck (i.e. a lot of the Warhammer modding team voting last month to give the first Greenskin victory) and only maybe 20% skill.....

I voted for utro43's entry. This was because I liked it the most and wasn't a "popularity" vote ;) .

Your comments on The Thud - fair enough. :D

But - I always vote based on two things, my estimation of how technically accomplished an entry is, and how likely I am to use an entry. I certainly don't think that only 20% of the voters are interested in the skill of the contestants If I were a winner in one of these competitions then I would be grossly insulted by your comments. If you are sore about not getting many votes (though you do actually get a lot considering the very high quality competition you go up against) then that is one thing, but insulting the other creators like this is quite wrong. I hope that I have misread your comments, because otherwise it is quite upsetting.

i think there is some truth to what you say.....
popularity no doubt can be a factor, however the comment about "20% skill"
i think is a rather ignorant thing to say. don't you think skill is involved
in creating an icon that people will find useful, or working any popularity you
may have to your advantage?

we have all displayed our skills at creating these icons, and if only one person
were to download, and use any of them then we have succeeded in what we
set out to do...not to win a contest, but to contribute to the Civ3 community.

thank-you rob, your vote has helped to heal the wounds to my ego that
Hikaro's hurtful comments made. :( :joke:
but seriously, i really do appreciate the vote! :D

No, I was saying that most people's votes aren't based on the actual technical skill of the creator, but on how popular their creation's theme is... I.e. Rob's LH got so many votes because a lot of medieval/dark ages/roman era modders wanted an Attila the Hun LH, despite the fact that Rob's LH, IMHO, looks nothing like Attila actually would have.

I did an entire history project for school that was entered into a local competition on Attila the Hun and the Fall of the Roman Empire, and for one thing, he should look more Mongolic (Mongoloid? Mongolish? you know, Mongolian type person), since the Huns were a Mongolic tribe. In addition, he should look like scarface, since every description of Attila that I read during the course of my research said that his face was covered in ritualistic scars, as Huns and Mongolians were wont to do.

Of course, I doubt there are many here who have my deep background information Huns and thier ilk, hence the incredible popularity of the LH.

If it makes you feel any better, you were my second choice, and I'd have voted for you if LMR hadn't entered his awesome Hordes of Chaos entry....

Speaking of which, it makes perfect sense that the Hordes of Chaos are below the Demons (Summoning): That's pretty much how it works in the Warhammer Fantasy Battles world anyways.

And why has the Tech Icon voting thread suddenly become a forum for criticising leaderheads? Hikaro, I know you're annoyed about not winning more competitions, but please stop going on about it endlessly or I'll give you an infraction for spamming. And I haven't even worked out exactly what an infraction is yet.

I'm sorry, Plot... I get like this when I'm depressed, and I have been for the past few weeks for reasons almost entirely unrelated to civ, and I've unfortunately let it slip into here. I'll just shut the hell up from now on.....
