Tech Tree Discussion

Ok, quick update on my progress. I'm about halfway through the new Religious techs, my injured hand has been a real hamper to my progress. I expect to have this all on the SVN on sunday, time permitting.

When you have a moment can you change "Horse Breeding" tech to "Specialized Breeding"? And then remove "Horse Domestication" tecj from its requirements. Thus it would only have "Animal Riding" AND "Military Tradition".

I wanted to add some other specialized breeds of various animals and thought this would best fit without having to make up a new tech.

Now that the religions have been moved off to their on tech the buildings, units, cultures etc need to be moved back to the other tech. I have only looked as shamanism so far but all the buildings etc that are there should be moved back to animism tech. I'll do mine.

I have not touched any of the religious buildings so feel free to alter the core ones since they are still in the core building files. In short religious stuff is under your realm of control.

How about the name Animal Husbandry? Specialized Breeding sounds like it belongs in the Modern Era. I agree that you can broaden the technology out to beyond horses.

On a serious note about the religion tech changes, maybe the modders understand but if this works like I think it will, this is gonna remake and renew the religion founding aspect of the Mod (I almost went so far as to say Revolutionize, But ...).

Isn't there an AIweight in one of the GlobalDefines file that deals with Commerce, Production, Culture, Espionage? Has Religion been added to this list?

Included are some new non religion specific techs (Animism, Karma, Reincarnation and Resurrection).

Tell me what you guys think? I think this works nicely. Especially with the supplementing techs.

EDIT: Note that all religion techs should have the same buttons as their religious icons, but the the other techs will need a new buttons (except for Animism which can use the Shamanism tech button).

Also I can chnage the name of the "Shaman's Hut" to "Sage's Hut" to unlink it to Shamanism.

All of these are done now, as far as I can tell I didn't miss anything. :whew: If I did, please tell me, this was a very large change.

There's a FLAVOR_RELIGION in the XML for the technologies. That should cover weighting the tech for the AI appropriately.
 
All of these are done now, as far as I can tell I didn't miss anything. :whew: If I did, please tell me, this was a very large change.

I'll be going over the tech tree part myself in a bit. I'll let you know if I notice anything.

Any help on finding good quotes for these would be appreciated.

Second, Resurrection, Reincarnation, and Karma have placeholder buttons for now, Hydro will need to make some buttons for those.

What do you mean by "quote" do any of the other religions have quotes?? If so where?

Also, i hope you used the "Replace Me" placeholder, instead of a normal btn, that way it easier to see what C2C needs for btns, JFYI.

All techs should have text (non-audio) quotes, but the ones I listed only have "TBD" in the quote area.

Before MrAzure went on vacation we discussed in the C2C Chat that we will need buttons for when the religions are not founded yet. In the past it has been the picture of the tech that enables it with a tiny icon of the religious symbol in the corner. This will look wrong if left with the old icon button since it has the old tech. Likewise if you had a religion symbol with a 2nd symbol in the corner that would look even weirder. So what was proposed is that each religious tech be given a :religion: in the corner of its picture if the religion has not been founded yet.

I am not sure if MrAzure already made them or if he made new buttons for the tech or what. I can make them if someone can give me all the religious button/icons.

I don't know, but unless replacements are found I'm sticking with what I have for now. I don't know what Azure made or didn't make, but I'll ask Sarah about it.
 
When you did the religion techs did you make them "optional" ie they should only appear when the religion is in game. This is only for the extra religions in my folder. Some people turn them off so if they have then there is no point in the religion tech appearing in the tree for that game. This is easily achieved by adding something like

to the tech definition after the <type> tag.
 
1. Mesopotamism covers Divination on the tech tree. The X needs changed by 1.
2. Ngaii has Shinto symbol on Tech pic in tech tree.
3. Druidism has TEXT_KEY_.... on Tech pice
4. Islam now comes from Crop Rotation and Not Divine Right according the the path arrows (maybe those can be ignored?)

I have already founded Naghalism in my current game but it's now placed much later in the New tech tree. I wonder if I'll need to abandon this game? If another player/AI founds it now I see a conflict. Tengrii is alos mine but all the AI in this game are all heading to Copper working and Priesthood which I have just finished.

Overall though looks good, now we'll see how "nice" it all plays out. Physically there are several religions in close approximate(sp) but it looks like different pathing. Won't know till I get there. :D This is gonna be Fun! :lol:
