I'm gonna answer twice, because although I definitely live in 'Sydney', I live in the 'City of Bankstown', which is a city in Sydney. Not sure how they define 'city'.

1) What city/town, province/state/territory, and country do you live in?
Bankstown, Sydney, NSW, Australia
Sydney, NSW, Australia

2) What is the population of your city/town?
~190 000
~4.5 million

3) If it's not a world-recognized city, what is the nearest big city to you and how far away?
Sydney- 20km
Singapore- 6200km

4) Is it industrial, agricultural, on the water, etc.?
Bankstown's inland, and I guess kinda industrial? Not really, though. Just mainly suburban.
Sydney's coastal.

5) Tell us an interesting trivia fact about the city/town -
Well, Bankstown usually has a minimum temp. 5 degrees lower than Sydney in winter, and a maximum 5 degrees higher in summer. I don't understand this, given it's only 20km difference. Sea breeze, I guess. I can't think of anything else trivial.

6) Do you have a local food or drink that is peculiar to your area?
Bankstown just has the normal eclectic mix of eateries, I think. It's comprised of many suburbs, so it's just what you'd expect of somewhere suburban. It's not particularly known for anything else, and if it was, it wouldn't 'local' in the true sense, anyway.
Sydney has no particular 'local' food or drink that I can think of. The cuisine is highly multicultural. Italian and Chinese are the mainstays, presumably just like the UK or US.

7) If we were to go there on vacation, what's the one thing you'd want us to see or do?
If you were to vacation to Bankstown, I'd want you to see the train station to the city. And then get on a train.
If you in Sydney...well, there's a few things. I'd probably direct you towards Mrs. Macquarie's Chair, or send you on a Manly ferry. On a sunny day. Simply because the harbour and city just so beautiful then!

8) Any current male or female celebs born there?
In Bankstown,
In Sydney, yeah, a lot. Obviously about half of Australia's celebrities are going to come from Sydney. Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett and Russell Crowe live here (when they're 'home'), to name a few.

9) What's the favorite sports team for your city/town?
In Bankstown, the Bankstown-Canterbury Bulldogs, a rugby league team.
For Sydney, hard to say, because the sports competitions are quite localised. That is, the most popular competition is the NRL (National Rugby League), but 9 of the 16 teams are Sydney teams. There is one NRL team in Melbourne. Conversely, there is one (soon to be two) AFL (Aussie rules) team in Sydney, with the majority based in Melbourne. Cricket is followed on an international level, so the favourite there is obviously 'Australia', and this actually holds for most other sports.

Answer:
Madison, WI - 2 hours
Minneapolis, MN - 3 hours

4) Is it industrial, agricultural, on the water, etc.?
Answer:
On the Mississippi River. To the south there's an industrial park, but most of that belongs to La Crosse, and to the east is the mall area. Onalaska and La Crosse had a big annexation battle in the '80's over it. La Crosse got one side of the highway which has the actual mall, Onalaska got the other side of the highway with all the other stores, the Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc.

5) Tell us an interesting trivia fact about the city/town -
Answer:
Nothing I can think of. 100 years ago it was a logging town like most town and cities in this part of the country that are on a river.
La Crosse has the world's largest 6 pack of beer. Mark Twain wrote of his fondness for the city of La Crosse. Current mayor was elected into office at the age of 24. UW-L named their mascot after Colbert....yes, the comedian. Not that interesting since they weren't the first to do that.

6) Do you have a local food or drink that is peculiar to your area?
Answer:
Nothing except some micro brews.

7) If we were to go there on vacation, what's the one thing you'd want us to see or do?
Answer:
State Bike trail I guess. La Crosse has Granddad's Bluff (scenic overlook), Mississippi Queen (steam boat) and Island Girl (fancy boat) and the world's largest 6-pack of beer. In the winter if you don't have a snowmobile there is a ski hill (but I'm sure it's tiny compared to more notable ski hills)

8) Any current male or female celebs born there?
Answer:
No, a former NFL player and former twin tennis players. La Crosse has 100 people on the 'notable people' wiki, but I won't bother seeing who's current or famous enough. Ed Gein was born there, but that's in dispute, probably because no city wants to admit he was born there. I thought I read somewhere that La Crosse was in the 1986 video game Rampage, but I can't confirm it.

9) What's the favorite sports team for your city/town?
Answer:
Onalaska itself, just has the Coulee Region Chill.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coulee_Region_Chill

La Crosse has:

The La Crosse Skating Sirens began competing at the La Crosse Center in 2009. The Skating Sirens are a nationally "bouting" women's flat-track roller derby team. The La Crosse Spartans of the Indoor Football League began playing at the La Crosse Center in 2010.

It has previously been home to two indoor football teams: The La Crosse River Rats and the La Crosse Night Train; and two Continental Basketball Association (CBA) teams: The La Crosse Catbirds and the La Crosse Bobcats.

And they have the La Crosse Loggers for baseball.

http://www.lacrosseloggers.com/

Professionally it would be the Wisconsin teams (Packers, Brewers and Bucks).

This is my first post here and I've been lurking for a while, so I figured this was as good a place as any to start off.

It's roots are in logging/sawmill operations but high tech industry and small scale manufacturing have since taken over. Education, tourism, and government (federal, state, and local) are the biggest job providers. As you can guess: Lots of gov't workers plus college means we're pretty liberal.

5) Tell us an interesting trivia fact about the city/town -
Answer: We regularly see -30˚F or lower during the winter and 90˚F+ during the summer. We also are home to the statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, which is one of the most photographed statues in the nation.

6) Do you have a local food or drink that is peculiar to your area?
Answer: Because most people have Norwegian or other Scandinavian heritage, Swedish meatballs, lefse, and yes, lutefisk, are common during holidays. Rømmegrøt is also a popular dish during Christmas as a breakfast item... along with the Norwegian-flag decked Kransekake (literally circle-cake).

7) If we were to go there on vacation, what's the one thing you'd want us to see or do?
Answer: Come in the summer and fish, go hiking, lounge in a hammock by the lake all day with a good book. Come in the winter, go ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and finish the evening with an ice cold beer and a hot tub or a nice mug of hot cocoa and a roaring fire.

8) Any current male or female celebs born there?
Answer: Jane Russell, an old famous actress who recently died. About 2/3 of the U.S. olympic curling teams from 2002, 2006, and 2010. We are the curling capital of the U.S.!

3) If it's not a world-recognized city, what is the nearest big city to you and how far away?

4) Is it industrial, agricultural, on the water, etc.?
Answer: It's a government town, overwhelmingly so/

5) Tell us an interesting trivia fact about the city/town -
