Thailand refuses to send Hmong refugees to communist Laos

The Lao People's Democratic Government is going to great lengths to encourage and develop a distinctly "Lao" identity, which included choosing Vientiane's Lao dialect as the national language and a massive nationwide advertising campaign aimed at promoting national pride.

In other words, something that people like rmsharpe and Winner would absolutely love their governments to be doing with regards to hispanics and muslims respectively.

Then, by your standard, the Lao People's Democratic Republic is doing bad things like their evil western counterparts.

Then I'm sure y'all will have no problem declaring war on every state in the region to carve out a ambigious Hmong homeland, then supply it with superior weapons and technology to create a new conflict zone in Indochina, right? Cuz, thats whats right. They support America over those damn pinko gooks and those weirdos with weird beliefs and we have to support em. Countries for all stateless people!
I certainly wouldn't advocate that. The rest of the Lao Hmong can come to Minnesota, they are solid DFL voters.:D

And why do Lao government want those refugees? Execute them? No, there's no proof that they commit murder of Lao's forces. Rehab them? They don't want to.

I think the Lao government feared that these refugees maybe working with other people trying to overthrow the Lao government eg Laotian monarchists/exiles or foreign powers. They wouldn't have cared about them otherwise.

Wow I know this thread is 4 years old but I am Hmong and appreciate that people actually recognizes us Hmong and what we did for the Americans. I live in St. Paul and I am currently making a Hmong civilization mod hehee.

Yes, well. We like the Hmong? :p (Interestingly Darwin was a major entry point for Hmong and other refugees fleeing South Vietnam into the West).

In the article it was mentioned that the Netherlands would be taking these refugees and I was surprised our right wing government would allow that.
Then I saw that the article is from '07...

They have really played this one out well.

There was always the problem with Thailand being caught offside, but it seems they've pulled the old one-two on the Laotians

Fantastically done by the Thais, they have played this very well, and got what they deserved.

Thailand is the hegemony power of Indochina. They laid claims on Malaya, Burma and Cambodia.
