Weird Al Yankovic
Amish Paradise

As i walk throught the valley where i harvest my grain,
I take a look at my wife and realize she's very plain.
But that's just perfect for an Amish like me,
you know I shun fancy things like electricity.
At 4:30 in the mornin' i'm milking cows,
Jebediah feeds the chickens and Jacob plows, fool
and I've been milking and plowing so long that
even Ezekial thinks that my mind is gone.
I'm a man of the land, I'm into discipline,
got a Bible in my hand and a beard on my chin,
but if I finish all of my chores, and you finish thine,
then tonight we're going to party like it's 1699.

(Chorus)
we've been spending most our lives living in an Amish Paradise,
I churn butter once or twice, living in an Amish Paradise,
It's hard work and sacrifice, living in an Amish Paradise,
We sell quilts at discount price, living in an Amish Paradise.

A local boy kicked me in the butt last week,
i just smiled at him, and I turned the other cheek.
I don't really care, in fact I wish him well,
cause I'll be laughing my head off when he's burning in Hell.
I ain't never punched a tourist even if he deserved it,
an Amish with a 'tude, you know that's unheard of.
I never wear buttons, but I got a cool hat,
and my homies agree i really look good in black, fool
If you come to visit, you'll be bored to tears,
we haven't even payed the phone bill in 300 years,
But we ain't really quaint, so please don't point and stare,
we're just technologically impaired.

there's no phone, no lights, no motorcars, not a single
luxury,
like robonson Crusoe, it's as primitive as can be,

(chorus)
we've been spending most our lives living in an Amish Paradise,
we're just plain and simple guys, living in an Amish Paradise,
there's no time for sin and vice, living in an Amish Paradise,
We don't fight, we all play nice, living in an Amish Paradise

Hitching up the buggy, churning lots of butter,
raised a barn on Monday, soon i'll raise anutter
think you're really rightious?
think you're pure in heart?
well i know i'm a million times as humble as thou art.
I'm the pioust guy the little Amletts want to be like
on my knees day and night scoring points for the afterlife.
so don't be vain, and don't be whiney,
or else my brother might have to get medieval on your hiney.

(chorus)
we've been spending most our lives living in an Amish Paradise,
We're all crazy Mennonites, living in an Amish Paradise,
there's no cops or traffic lights, living in an Amish Paradise,
But you'd probably think it bites, living in an Amish Paradise,

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
ah-ah
ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah,
yech!

Guinevere
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young

Guinevere had green eyes
Like yours, mi'lady like yours
When she'd walk down
Through the garden
In the morning after it rained
Peacocks wandered aimlessly
Underneath an orange tree
Why can't she see me?

Guinevere
Drew pentagrams
Like yours, mi'lady like yours
Late at night
When she thought
that no one was watching at all
On the wall

dada da da da da da da da da da
She shall be free!

As she turns her gaze
Down the slope
to the harbor where I lay
Anchored for a day

Guinevere
Had golden hair
Like yours, mi'lady like yours
Streaming out when we'd ride
Through the warm wind down by the bay
Yesterday
Seagulls circle endlessly
I sing in silent harmony
We shall be free

Now, I present to you a musical masterpiece, undoubtedly the best cover, ever.
I present, from the Sex Pistols, as sung by Sid Vicious My Way

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
You ****, i´m not a queer
I´ll state my case, of which i´m
certain
I´ve lived a life that´s full
through each and every highway
And yet, much more than this
I did it my way

Regrets, i´ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did, what I have to do
I saw it through with no devotion
i slammed into a car
be careful along the highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

There were times, i´m sure you
knew
When there was **** **** ****all
else to do
But through it all, when there was
doubt
I shot you down or kicked it out
I faced the wall and the wall
And did it my way

I've laughed or better sneered
I´ve had my filth, my share of
looting.
And now, the tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think, I killed a cat
And may I say, not in a gay way
And now no, not me
I did it my way

For what is a brat, what has he got
When he wears hats and he
cannot
Say the things he truly feels
But only the words, of someone
else
The record shows, i´ve took my
blows
And did it my way

Porcupine Tree - The Creator has a Mastertape

He captured and collected things
And he put them in a shed
He raised a proper family
So he could tie them to a bed

The creator had a mastertape
But he left it in a cab
I stared into the void tonight
The best dream I ever had

He worked himself into the ground
And drove a spike into his head
A voice said lAre you happy now ??
lYour sordid home is running red?

Pills and chloroform
All the pages torn

Magellan--The Great Goodnight

I was only 4, I don't remember you
I have seen your pictures my whole life brother...in this Great Goodnight

A black frame still protects those two letters from the President
They start out: "On this day in May 1966 for wounds received in action"
still hanging here after all of this time
right next to your purple heart in this Great Goodnight

I do have this one hazy memory
I think you had me up on your shoulders
playing on top of the world for a moment
that couldn't last (it never does)
I love this black and white of you playing the harmonica like a giant
at our old house, sitting on that green sofa
You were only 19 but to this kid you were probably more like 43.

I read an old clipping from the paper
It said they prayed for you at the church
Now I know everyone in the photograph
long before the memorial rose, looking so much different than today
I haven't touch that stone of names but I have a tracing of yours

"On this day in May 1966 for wounds received in action"
still hanging here after all of this time
right next to your purple heart in this Great Goodnight
But for some unknown reason
we never discussed it much growing up
I pieced together the whole story out of
that old trunk left in the attic

You'd been gone only 6 weeks
when the Army brass came to the door knocking
breaking the news--breaking our hearts
they broke the news to Mom, she took it worse than anyone
She really believed 'He didn't have to go,
the draft missed him by a mile'
You could've walked away, but instead
you had your final day in Vietnam

When they broke the news to Mom
all I can say...she took it worse than anyone
She really believed he would make it back home
'He didn't have to go to Vietnam'

Here is what they said:
The claymore went off & you went down
and you would've been ok, you would've been all right
but they couldn't get to you
the VC were everywhere, so the orders came...
We can't pull Jack out for him it's getting late,
but a hundred men won't see tomorrow if we don't quietly wait

'We can't pull Jack out...'

You knew exactly what was happening--why nobody came
You were a good soldier, keeping still
holding out as long as you did on this day in May 1966...
within an hour you relaxed, somehow everything seemed ok
'cause in your soul you knew
your time in 'Nam had passed away...my brother

With your shirt wet with blood and your forehead cool
you thanked the Lord for this Great Goodnight
In this moment of acceptance
this Great Goodnight brought you a peace you'd never known
in this Great Goodnight, the war raging on
in this Great Goodnight, my brother...

But brother let me tell you
it's what I know, so maybe one day we can fill in the blanks
until we meet again, brother I'll choose this memory
We'll keep remembering what you did in that Great Goodnight

You couldn't hear the medic yelling in your ear
while you dreamed of this kid back at home
saying "pick me up so we can play"
Brother let me tell you, I remember
and I think you made it in that Great Goodnight
in fact, it's the only thing I remember from that Great Goodnight

well brother let me tell you, it's what I know
Maybe one day we will stand together
until we meet again, I'll chose this memory
and thank you guys for what you did
and what you tried to do in this Great Goodnight

on this day in May for wounds received in action...
and now I see, my brother...this is for you
and someday you will see that this song was for you, my brother
Now that Dad has joined you, I'm sure that he would agree
got a son on my shoulder and lots of work to do, brother...
like was done with me

Twenty minutes of musical genius:

The Fountain Of Lamneth by Rush

I. In the Valley

I am born
I am me
I am new
I am free
Look at me
I am young
Sight unseen
Life unsung

My eyes have just been opened
And they're open very wide
Images around me
Don't identify inside
Just one blur I recognize
The one that soothes and feeds
My way of life is easy
And as simple are my needs

Yet my eyes are drawn toward
The mountain in the east
Fascinates and captivates
Gives my heart no peace
The mountain holds the sunrise
In the prison of the night
'Til bursting forth from rocky chains
The valley floods with light

Living one long sunrise
For to me all things are new
I've never watched the sky grow pale
Or strolled through fields of dew
I do not know of dust to dust
I live from breath to breath
I live to climb that mountain
To the Fountain of Lamneth

II. Didacts and Narpets

Stay! Go!
Work! No!
Learn! Live!
Earn! Give!
Stay or fight? What's right?
Listen!

III. No One At the Bridge

Crying back to consciousness
The coldness grips my skin
The sky is pitching violently
Drawn by shrieking winds
Seaspray blurs my vision
Waves roll by so fast
Save my ship of freedom
I'm lashed helpless to the mast

Remembering when first I held
The wheel in my own hands
I took the helm so eagerly
And sailed for distant lands
But now the sea's too heavy
And I just...I just don't understand
Why must my crew desert me?
When I need...I need a guiding hand...

Call out for direction
And there's no one there to steer
Shout out for salvation
But there's no one there to hear
Cry out supplication
For the maelstrom is near
Scream out desperation
But no one cares to hear

IV. Panacea

The whiteness of confusion
Is unfolding from my mind
I stare around in wonder
Have I left my life behind?

I catch the scent of ambergris
And turn my head, surprised
My gaze is caught and held and I
Am helpless...mesmerized

Panacea, liquid grace
Oh let me touch your fragile face
Enchantment falls around me
And I know I cannot leave

Here's a meaning for my life
A shelter from the storm
Pacify my troubles with
Her body, soft and warm

Naked in our unity
A smile for every tear
Gentle hands that promise me
Comfort through the years

Yet I know I must be gone
Before the light of dawn

Panacea, passion pure
I can't resist your gentle lure
My heart will lie beside you
And my wandering body grieves

V. Bacchus Plateau

Another endless day
Silhouettes of grey
Another glass of wine
Drink with eyes that shine
To days without that chill at morning
Nights time out of mind

Chorus
Draw another goblet
From the cask of '43
Crimson misty memory
Hazy glimpse of me
Give me back my wonder
I've something more to give
I guess it doesn't matter
There's not much more to live

Another foggy dawn
The mountain almost gone
Another doubtful fear
The road is not so clear
My soul grows ever weary
And the end is ever near

Chorus

VI. The Fountain

Look! The mist is rising
And the sun is peaking through
See the steps grow lighter
As I reach their final few
Hear the dancing waters
I must be drawing near
Feel, my heart is pounding
With embattled hope and fear

Now, at last I fall before
The Fountain of Lamneth
I thought I would be singing
But I'm tired...out of breath
Many journeys end here
But, the secret's told the same:
Life is just a candle, and a dream
Must give it flame

The key, the end, the answer
Stripped of their disguise
Still it's all confusion
And tears spring to my eyes
Though I've reached a signpost
It's really not the end
Like Old Sol behind the mountain
I'll be coming up again.

I'm in motion
I am still
I am crying
I am...still.
I'm together
I'm apart
I'm forever
At the start

Still... I am.

Was going to cheat and post two, but I reined myself in. It was hard to choose just one song from Bruce Springsteen, because there are so very many great ones. I guess I picked this one because it's just a simple song of hope and joy at being young and in love. I killed the tv and put this cd in tonight. For me at least, it was a refreshing break from all the sadness of the past week.

"All That Heaven Will Allow" by Bruce Springsteen

I got a dollar in my pocket.
There ain't a cloud up above.
I got a picture in a locket
that says baby, I love you.
Well if you didn't look then, boys,
then fellas don't go lookin' now.
Well here she comes a-walkin',
all that heaven will allow.

Say hey there Mister Bouncer..
now all I wanna do is dance.
But I swear I left my wallet
back home in my workin' pants.
C'mon Slim, slip me in man!
I'll make it up to you somehow.
I can't be late, I got a date
with all that heaven will allow.

Rain and storm and dark skies,
well now they don't mean a thing.
Not if you got a girl who loves you
and who wants to wear your ring.
So c'mon Mister Trouble
we'll make it through you somehow.
We'll fill this house with all the love,
yeah all that heaven will allow.

Now some may wanna die young, man,
young and gloriously.
Get it straight now, Mister,
hey buddy that ain't me.
'Cause I got somethin' on my mind, yeah.
That sets me straight and walkin' proud.
And I want all the time..
All that heaven will allow.

Demons and Wizards - Crimson King

Show me your banner
Come show me your sign
The Crimson King's eye
Is the mark to reveal you are mine
I am your master
I will make your dreams come true
I'm your messiah
A twisted one as you may know

My right hands, my servants
My soldiers, my tools
Spread out the good news
Find my children and gather them all
We'll take all low men
All the hatred, evil souls
We share one desire
A wicked one as you may know

Touched by the Crimson King
Touched By the Saviour
The tower falls on Judgement Day
Touched By the Crimson King
Touched By the Saviour
Like it’s been written many years ago

I am the angel I am madness
I am the word I am the law
I am holding truth release your sadness
I am the key I am the door
Release!
Oh there is
War and evil
Whores and sinners
Take my hand and I show you
Where to go
Call me Flagg
I’m the Good Man
I’m the Dark Man
Take my hand and
I show you where to go
Release!
Come take my hand
To the promised land

Redeemer
Deceiver
The demon
The man in black

The universe is void
Just you and I
Let there be light
The stars will rise
Then fall again
Climbing to the top
An empty room
Is all there is
Oh I fear it is
Prophecies were made of you and I
The vision’s strong
But meanwhile keep on falling
Oh what a miracle is life
An even bigger one is size
It’s just the way it is
I fear it is
It’s just the way it is

Life’s a wheel nothing more
It goes round and around and a…
I am the ageless
I am “Legion”
I’m your lord
I will bring terror
I’m a demon in disguise
The thrill of a thousand
Worlds dying at once
But my ultimate goal
Lies beyond the downfall

Touched by the Crimson King
Touched By the Saviour
The tower falls on Judgement Day
Touched By the Crimson King
Touched By the Saviour
Like it’s been written many years ago

Iluvatar--Indian Rain

Clouds roll under thunder, skies swell to the cold
Indian rain hides my teardrops, how many rainbows can you hold?
why do we always question the innocence of home?
all the while they hold my boundaries, making my way across your plain
wide awake come monday morning, clouded images on hold
feeling the scrapes from other torment, facing the day across the grain

I see you've made the race, welcome to the room
a name without a face to hide within the womb
you've waited all this time, and followed me through my years
and now a guest in my place, I'll promise you the moon
though your body may be cold, burning fast is your soul
rest assured you're not alone, never try this on your own

I see it in the eyes of people that walk past me everyday
all the while they're cold, they're just turning away
somewhere out on the ocean, the sea that keeps the stars in the sky
all alone, and time before that, we were amazed by what we'd done
no thoughts will come over you, or make you feel inclined to
make changes to better you, just look away
didn't I tell you I was part in that? Just another enigma in friday's sobriquet?
a stranger in waiting, tomorrow's letters kept,
didn't I tell you I never knew her name?

I see you've made the race, welcome to the room
a name without a place to hide within the womb
you've waited all this time, I've followed you through the years
and now my time has come to introduce the moon
hear the cries across the counties, calling children to their homes
Indian rain they hide the teardrops of every warrior that comes home
wide awake on sunday morning, to witness their arms stretched as one
towards the heavens they lift their teardrops,
sending one of the family to her grave

Did you ever think to call, before closing the gate?
and now you land on my door
shedding your light on my doorway and locking away my tears--
wash away my tears
you've got them thinking you were a star, the one God had sent to you
promising them a better way
shine your light on my doorway, and make better all the years
with one touch of yours

Roy Rogers - Elton John and Bernie Taupin

Sometimes you dream.
Sometimes it seems
there's nothing there at all.
You just seem older than yesterday
and you're waitin' for tomorrow to call.

You draw to the curtains
and one thing's for certain:
You're cozy in your little room.
The carpet's all paid for,
God bless the T.V.
Let's a-go shoot a hole in the moon..

Oh and Roy Rogers is a-ridin' tonight,
returning to our silver screens.
Comic book characters never grow old.
Evergreen heroes whose stories were told,
Oh the great sequined cowboy
who singed of the plains
of roundups and rustlers
and Home on the Range.
Turn on the T.V.
Shut out the lights.
Roy Rogers is ridin' tonight.

Nine o'clock mornings,
Five o' clock evenings,
I'd liven the pace if I could.
Oh I'd rather have a ham in my sandwich than cheese
but complainin' wouldn't do any good.

Lay back in my armchair.
Close eyes and think clear.
I can hear hoofbeats ahead.
Roy and Trigger have just hit the hilltop
while the wife and the kids are in bed..

Oh and Roy Rogers is a-ridin' tonight,
returning to our silver screens.
Comic book characters never grow old.
Evergreen heroes whose stories were told,
Oh the great sequined cowboy
who singed of the plains
of roundups and rustlers
and Home on the Range.
Turn on the T.V.
Shut out the lights.
Roy Rogers is ridin' tonight.

Bury Me With It Lyrics
Modest Mouse

We were shootin' at a mound of dirt.
Well nothing was broken, nothing was hurt.
But I probably really should have been at work.
But if my freetime's gone, would you promise me this?

That you will please bury me with it?
Please bury me with it!

Well sure as planets come, I know that they end.
And if I'm here when that happens, will you promise me this my friend?

Please bury me with it!
I just don't need none of that Mad Max bull****.

Well the suit got tight and it split at the seams.
But I kept it out of habit and I kept it really clean.
But if it's getting' faded, if it's runnin' outta thread,
Could you just do this for me my friend?

And please just please bury me with it?
Please bury me with it!

Well we moved to the left and moved to the right.
And sure as hell we stayed out almost every single night.
But if the party's over, if the fun has to end,
could you do this for me my friend?

Would you just please bury me with it?
Please bury me with it!

Good news for people who love bad news.
We've lost the plot and we just can't choose.
We are hummingbirds who are just not willing to move.
And there's good news for people who love bad news.
We are hummingbirds who've lost the plot and we will not move.
We have good news for anyone who loves bad news.

We were aiming for the moon. We were shooting at the stars.
But the kids were just shooting at the busses and the cars.
So don't drink the water, don't you breathe the air.
If it's gotten to that point then I have to declare:

That you please bury me with it!
Please bury me with it!

Well fads they come and fads they go.
And God I love that rock and roll!
Well the point was fast but it was too blunt to miss.
Life handed us a paycheck, we said, "We worked harder than this!"

Please bury me with it!
Please bury me with it!

We are hummingbirds who are just not going to move.
And there's good news for people who love bad news.
We are hummingbirds who've lost the plot and we well not move.
We have great news for anyone who loves bad news.

DATE RAPE
By: Sublime

Let me tell you about a girl I know
had a drink about an hour ago.
Sitting in a corner by herself in a bar in downtown Hell.
She heard a noise and she looked through the door.
And saw a man she'd never seen before.
Light skin light blue eyes a double chin and a plastic smile.
Well her eyebrow raised as he walked through the door
And took an empty seat next to her at the bar.
"My brand new car is parked right outside. How'd ya like to go for a ride?"
And she said, "Wait a minute I have to think."
He said, "That's fine. May I please buy you a drink"
One drink turned into 3 or 4 and they left and got into his car
and they drove away someplace real far.

Now babe the time has come.
How'd ya like to have a little fun?
And she said." If we could only please be on our way, I will not run."

That's when things got out of control.
She didn't want to, he had his way.
She said, "Let's Go"
He said, "No Way!"
Come on babe it's your lucky day.
Shut your mouth, were gonna do it my way.
Come on baby don't be afraid,
if it wasn't for date rape I'd never get laid.

He finished up and he started the car
He turned around and drove back to the bar.
He said, "Now baby don't be sad, in my opinion you weren't half-bad."
She picked up a rock, threw it at the car, hit him in the head, now his got a big scar.
Come on party people won't you listen to me.
Date Rape Stylee.

The next day she went to her drawer, looked up her local attorney at law,
went to the phone and filed the police report and then she took the guy's ass to court.
Well, the day he stood in front of the judge he screamed, " She lies that little slut!"
The judge knew that he was full of **** and he gave him 25 years
And now his heart is filled with tears.

That night in jail it was getting late.
He was butt-raped by a large inmate, and he screamed.
But the guards paid no attention to his cries.

That's when things got out of control.
The moral of the date rape story, it does not pay to be drunk and horny.
But that's the way it had to be.
They locked him up and threw away the key.
Well, I can't take pity on men of his kind,
even though he now takes it in the behind.

That's the way it had to be.
They locked him up and threw away the key.
Well, I can't take pity on men of his kind,
even though he now takes it in the behind.

DATE RAPE

She didn't want to TAKE IT!

A Wild Pack of Family Dogs
Modest Mouse

A wild pack of family dogs came runnin’ through the yard one day
My father got his gun, shot it up, they ran away ok
A wild pack of family dogs came runnin’ through the yard
And as my own dog ran away with them, I didn’t say much of anything at all
A wild pack of family dogs came runnin’ through the yard
As my little sister played, the dogs took her away
And I guess she was eaten up ok, yeah she was eaten up ok
My mother’s cryin’ blood dust now, my mother's cryin' blood dust now
My dad he quit his job today, well I guess he was fired but that’s ok
And I’m sittin’ outside my mudlake, waiting for the pack to take me away
And right after I die the dogs start floating up towards the glowing sky
Now they’ll receive their rewards, now they will receive their rewards. . .

"The Music of the Night" From the Phantom the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber

Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defenses
Helpless to resist the notes I write
For I compose the music of the night

Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour
Grasp it, Sense it, tremulous and tender
Turn your face away from the garish light of day
Turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light
And listen to the music of the night

Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar
And you'll live as you've never lived before

Softly, deftly, music shall surround you
Feel it, Hear it closing in around you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind
In this darkness which you know you cannot fight
The darkness of the music of the night

Let your mind start a journey through a strange, new world
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before
Let your soul take you where you long to be
Only then can you belong to me

Floating, Falling, sweet intoxication
Touch me, Trust me, Savour each sensation
Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in
To the power of the music that I write
The power of the music of the night

You alone can make my song take flight
Help me make the music of the night

Leftover crack
Gringos son puercos feos

Stamping out the acient cultures to spread a new disease
sailing on a dollar sign across the seven seas
the banner is white, blue & red
the locust's flight to swarm the dead
a buzzing plague to cage the lost
the spreading web breeds holocost
the third world's in your sweaty hands
you bleed 'em dry & rape their lands
you loan 'em cash to kill their soils
white bureaucrats divide the spoils

Swirling red & blue lights flash upon the housing walls
my back against the lockless doors of countless bathroom stalls
sifting through a puzzled life until the pieces click
wading through america-the hate, the lies, the sick

(I'm) spittin'at the flag you wave
(I'm) pityin'the life the life you gave
the propaganda zombifies
to stuff your head with hateful lies
(&) violence really keeps the peace
all across the middle east
with diligence we scorch the soil
and siphon out their prcious oil

All these patriotic lies oft sicken me to wake
how much **** & disrespect are we supposed to take
while you chant amongst the bleachers "U.S.A. is #1"
we'll cheer the empire crumbling down to rot beneath the sun

We have to be the winning team
democracy's a dying dream
& everything is classified
to keep our terror justified
we have to keep our engines filled
so what if forign blood is spilled
I'm blind to the reality
if the media lies, it's news to me

This is what you're proud of when you have your little flag
a sovereign nation brutalizing a wetted paper bag

And all the worlds a cage
we're locked upon the stage

(In a)Capitalist society
we're threatend by autonomy
their labor must belong to us
in cash & greed & god we trust
(it's) just another policy
to cripple their economy
bury them in endless debt
to the world-bank & the I.M.F.
(so)I'm burnin' up the flag you wave
I'm dancin' on your ****in' grave
you're sellin' devastating death
you're suckin' souls & robin' breath
& your greed's a blasphemy
you're profitin' from misery
where will all this madness end
when the money burns & cities rend

(The Rain)
A golden sunset in darkest night
it melts the skin & blinds the sight
a fungal cloud of blackened ash
the rain floods down to spark the rash
into your mind the sickness bores
while underground they lock the doors
you glide into abysmal deep
escape, escape, to sleep

"The Music of the Night" From the Phantom the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber

Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defenses
Helpless to resist the notes I write
For I compose the music of the night

Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour
Grasp it, Sense it, tremulous and tender
Turn your face away from the garish light of day
Turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light
And listen to the music of the night

Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar
And you'll live as you've never lived before

Softly, deftly, music shall surround you
Feel it, Hear it closing in around you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind
In this darkness which you know you cannot fight
The darkness of the music of the night

Let your mind start a journey through a strange, new world
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before
Let your soul take you where you long to be
Only then can you belong to me

Floating, Falling, sweet intoxication
Touch me, Trust me, Savour each sensation
Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in
To the power of the music that I write
The power of the music of the night

You alone can make my song take flight
Help me make the music of the night

That's my favorite version. It is, I believe, the second revision to the original song which can be heard on the original full Crawford/Brightman on Broadway soundtrack.

Tiny Cities Made of Ashes
Modest Mouse might be their BEST(certainly most known) song

We’re going down the road to tiny cities made of ashes
I’m going to hit you on the face
I’m going to punch you in your glasses, oh no

I just got a message that said
Yeah, hell has frozen over.
I got a phone call from the lord saying,
Hey boy, get a sweater, right now.

So we’re drinkin’ drinkin’ drinkin’ drinkin’ coca coca cola
I can feel it rolling right on down
Oh right on down my throat now
As we’re headed down the road towards tiny cities made of ashes
I’m gonna get dressed up in plastic
Gonna shake hands with the masses, oh no!

Does anybody know a way that a body could get away?
Does anybody know a way?

We’re going down the road to tiny cities made of ashes
I’m going to hit you on the face
I’m going to punch you in your glasses
I’m wearing myself a t-shirt that says
The world is my ashtray
Our hearts pump dust and our hair’s all grey
And I just got a message that said
Yeah, hell has frozen over.
I got a phone call from the lord saying,
Hey boy, get a sweater, right now!

Does anybody know a way that a body could get away?
Does anybody know a way?
We’re drinkin’ drinkin’ drinkin’ drink’ coca coca cola
I can feel it rolling right on down
Oh right on down my throat
As we’re headed down the road towards tiny cities made of ashes
I’m going to lay down (at the spa? ) where they coat you in molasses
Right now!

Does anybody know a way that a body could get away?
Does anybody know a way?

Certainly one of their better songs, but definitely not their most known. That would be Float On, followed by Ocean Breathes Salty. Those two actually got significant radio time, did the talk show circuit, and even were featured on a commercial for Good News For People Who Love Bad News. Float On was on a car commercial, as well. (Gravity Rides Everything was also on a car commercial, but it never achieved the same recognition Float On did.)
