The all new, totally accepted, bigotry thread - "Blame a Christian"

If you go back to the first 200 years of Christianity when it was a completely non-violent religion practiced by a handful of adherents, the Christians were indeed discriminated against and persecuted by the Romans and just about everybody else. Ever since they have become the majority in any country on the face of the planet? Hardly. They became the ones doing the discrimination, including the Romans. And in the cases of countries which didn't have gunpowder, they started doing so as soon as they arrived despite being a tiny minority.

Christians in the west are literally enduring the same struggle as the Shia Muslims in Bahrain, Coptic Christians in Eygpt, the animists/christians during Darfur, Muslims and Christians in the ivorie coast, the bosniaks during the balkan wars.

not yet.

@ form, I was just illustrating the fact that majorities have been discriminated against in the past.

It's hard to deny all the mocking and hate directed towards Christians in Western society, it's become a "cool" thing to make fun of Christians.

Has it really? Is "making fun of" hate? I've stuck up for all religious groups before against the really militant atheists. I'm a pacifist too. I guess that makes me a bad person :(

Calling it hate sounds suspiciously similar to how some Muslims characterize poking fun at Mohammed.

Yes, because we all know that the majority never is discriminated against, especially not in countries like South Africa, Rhodesia, or those Middle Eastern Countries where the Ahi'ite minority controls everything.

When the majority has all the power, how does the powerless minority discriminate against them?

To the OP, it's the duty of good Christians to slap down bad Christians. When they fail to do so, they have no right to be not lumped together with them.

I separate Christians regardless of sect into three distinct groups. There are the Literalists who you know take the Bible at its every word literally. No offense to them but I will never understand their blind and horrible faith in a being as the Bible is written has desired genocide and just seems to be a tyrant. There are the interpreters who interpret the Bible as they please. I see them as being a bit willy nilly about their faith, but their ability to compromise on some things the Literalists refuse puts them slightly above the the Literalists just in my opinion. Then there are the Spiritual who would throw out the entirety of the Bible if they had to and all they believe in is God's forgiveness, love, and care for humanity along with that Jesus Christ is their savior and try to do their utmost to spread such a message. The Spirituals are the Christians I respect the most as they resemble what Jesus Christ wanted from his followers, from how I understand scripture, the most.

To be honest when I hate on Christians I usually mean one of the first two groups when I talk about its pros I am talking about the last group.

Christians in western countries are always treated with open hatred by some segments of society. It's probably due to the fact that Christianity is the "establishment" religion and therefore every effort should be used to unhinge it's position. I always think the battle is already won for them, they won the churches ages ago - I mean our Archbishop of Canterbury (or former, he is leaving soon) openly stated he desired aspects of Sharia Law in the UK a few years ago! There is also a growing segment of the COE which advocates gay marriage, fair enough I say. It just makes it even more baffling that when the advocates of the major religion in the country are generally turning towards the conclusion of the general politically correct, left-wing, gramscian paradigm - they are still treated with such contempt and hate by those they turn too.

So despite the adoption of certain "left-wing" ideals by the UKs established church and the reconcilliation with christianity and certain left-wing ideals, the left still despises the church and treats it's followers with undeserved bigotry. Lots of left wing people, probably only in the UK this applies too, should understand the cultural batte was won ages ago and that the left owns the cultural elite and they should STOP pretending they are some outsider rebels rebelling against the traditional establishment - they are not.

Oh come off it. You want some persecution? Convert to atheism. Until then just shut the hell up.

And then there are Catholics...
