The American Mod

I'm just not entirely sure all the bugs are worked out (eg, Neil Armstrong wasn't appearing, but that was a mistake in my Art_leaderhead defines, a rather silly typo), next time will probably be a single download though, I'll do some playtesting first, maybe post a quick story in the story & tales subforum. Also, it's a smaller download, so if somebody's really concerned about filesize, the regular version is 5 mb smaller compressed and about 20 smaller uncompressed.

5 MB isnt that much, and i dont think it should be that much, if when compressed it is 5 MB smaller that means around 10 MB uncompressed, and all revolutions is is python and xml, and SDK, and DLL, all of that is simply text, no art, so it should make a minimal difference, you probably added art inbetween, not sure though i dont have revolutions

Anyway, from on emoddern to another, i had about just as much expirience as you not to long ago, good idea for a mod, really liked what i was doing but was still not the best modder, if i could offer a peice of advice, your releasing almost to quickly, and i dont mean how quickly you update it, just your too foccussed on adding things, as i was back then. Take some time and focus and doing things now, focus on improving the gameplay and removing all errors. Do not release something w/o trying it first. I was always foccused on adding civs etc, and saying im going to do this in a week etc etc, focus on making it a really solid mod, then add things, thats what i did and now i have time to add things and i am honustly way happier with my mod

Started playing a game today with revolutuins on. Turns out it a) works and b) makes the game a heck of a lot more difficult. I'm planning on adding flags soon, maybe some civilopedia entries for civs (although it'll be hard to find a nice copy/paste, I may have to type something out myself).

Any suggestions for new leaders, different units or buildings, etc while I add alpha to the buttons and get flags made? Are there any balance issues that need to be addressed?

I am not here to complain. Looks like you did a great deal of work on this. I have not played the mod.

I see the dates still start at the beginning in the screenshot so it does not appear to be a scenario. Anyway why not actually start something like colonization? Native Americans and Colonial powers. I mean for example the Burr conspiracy always interests me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burr_conspiracy

There were attempts to break up the recent new states back to the European powers. The real rush of nationalism was created by Jackson's victory in New Orleans. The newly formed United States did not really have a clear sense of identity till after the War of 1812.

Just from reading the description most of the civs listed were not really civs but some type of faction. I would more interested in having an America filled with the original inhabitants. Then you would need to establish yourself and progress through history with your civilization.

I cannot personally get into the idea that some group of Americans were just there from the beginning. I would rather see states like Texas for example. Or when Vermont did not join the Union. Or perhaps even a Mormon state split off. Just some examples.

Yay feedback! Anyways, I do plan on adding scenarios later (Independence, War of 1812, Spanish-American, Mexican-American, Civil, pretty much all of them eventually) and I might make some modules later like The California Bear Flag Republic, Texas, Deseret, etc. for those who would like to play more as regions or states rather than specific groups of people. Also, I like the idea of a Jamestown or early colonial scenario, with limited cities and development and the Souix, Powhatan, etc over most of the continent, could be a nice challenge especially with revolutions on. Burr will also be making an appearance in the "Traitor" civ, so feel free to make his great western empire once I get him in ;).

EDIT: I also just finished getting BBAI weights for the leaders, I 'll be working on flags and civ buttons next.

I mean why not have Burr take a state out of the United States and bring it to the Spanish crown?

Or the road less traveled why not actually show Native Americans civs in the year 1000 AD like Mississippians.

I mean when I think of America I think of the land the United States holds more so than trying to stick only important American people who are there mainly because the majority of non-White males or females were looked as lesser.

It seems that your are focusing on important people in this persona of Americans being the only ones that mattered while the real history is just looked over.

If you suggest some leaders, I'll be sure to add them, all I need is a name and characteristics. I know Chief Joseph, King Phillip, Black Hawk, Sitting Bull, Geronimo, Crazy Horse, most of the big names but beyond that I don't know much.

Well if you were going for Native Americans leaders, and want to have some before contact..well you are not going to find names since they was nothing written.

If you want to see my insane leaderhead done for Mississippians the link is below. I do not think it is the greatest, but it was made off of this.

I do not remember even if the image I have of it is up to date.

For colonial powers, any governors or what not I think could work.

So I'm having a problem getting the mod to work. I unzipped it and it seems like it should be working fine... only problem is that when I load the mod, nothing changes. Any suggestions?

Check the civilopedia, the title page won't change unless it's on BTS Classic (I believe). Also, there should be a title in the upper right hand corner even if the front page hasn't changed.

Hmmm. I'm a bit puzzled. Just to make sure, the file path is Program Files (x86)>Firaxis Games>Civilization 4>Beyond the Sword>Mods and the American Mod Revolutions v.5 folder is in there, correct?
