The Ancient Mediterranean MOD

And I revised the two spearman as I finally found a solution
for my little shield-problem.

SPEARMAN
The normal spearman now gets the rectengular shield as it
is skinned as a leather shield. That suits the older spearman
better than the newer one.
Nothing else has changed.

HEAVY SPEARMAN
His model now is completely vanilla. But I managed to make
his armour less shiny and more like bronze.
In the .jpg there is also a picture of the original spearman
for comparison.

I hope these models are now satisfying.

I really liked more the original spearmen you made, especially because round shields were more common in the ancient age. The big rectangular shield is roman stuff, if I'm not wrong.

We're probably going to include this map into the mod:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=154263

Please check if you think your map will be much better.

We rather need a map that also includes all the area east of the Caspian Sea. Can you do that?

Thamis that map needs a lot of work on it... I don't like it all personally.

I already posted a picture of an iron-age warrior (non roman) with a leather rectangle shield in a previous post.
Sorry if it isn't fully to your liking. But for now i'll stick with units still undone or with really great problems.

When finished with designing everything we could make a review and talk about changing a few things again.

Next thing:
Mhemed II. (The Conquerer - even of Albania) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehmed_II

Ok, i don't know about catolic vasallism and that stuff, but Albania was a part of the Ottoman Empire. And Mhemed II. is the one who conquered Constantinople and also Krim and the Balkan includeing Serbia, Albania the Peleponnes.

Bengee171:
Spoiler :
Kastrioti and the Albanians rebelled against Sultan Murad. He tried to take Kruja, the Albanian fortress, and failed; he couldn't defeat the Albanians. He led the second siege of Kruja himself, but was unsuccessful, and after months of siege he returned home so as to not be caught in the Albanian winter. On his way back to his capital, he died of Apoplexy.

His son, Mehmet the Conqueror, took control. Mehmet II was a "beast," in that he introduced a new style of warfare: making everyone around him bow down to his will. He conquered Constantinople in 1453, but he did not conquer Albania until 1480, 12 years after Gjergj Kastrioti's death in 1468. So while Gjergj Kastrioti was alive and leading the rebellion, the Ottoman Empire did not control Albania.

Of course, after his death, the various Albanian tribes became disunited and that allowed the Turks to more easily conquer the country. Almost immediately after Mehmet II conquered Albania, he himself died. Because Albanians rebelled (and were not subservient like their Greek and Serbian neighbors), methods of Islamicization were enforced on the Albanians.

But that's another topic for another thread :p

I'm pretty sure you guys will enjoy this next version of TAM v1.5 since a few new units have been added ;)

I've also made it so that now the new Smithy replaces the older one (Bronze Smithy replaces Copper Smithy) instead of making the smithy obsolete with the new technology.

Notarzt, those rams look very great! I'll have to use them in my own mod ;)

Here i am once again, and please say you like what i brought.
there are no rivers and no resource and there are a lot things that could better and culd be get overworked.

Really looks good! Great work.
I just noticed one thing, as I often play Hammurabi: Mesopotamia is a bit infertile for my taste.

Okay. As i just learned how to use the polycounter in 3dsmax i need some feedback from you about performance as soon as 1.5 is out.
My models are rather high poly and I need info if there are any lags concerning my units:

- berserk (sword has 4000+ polys)
- siege tower (has about 4000 polys)
- battering ram (has about 2000 polys)
- spearman (shield has about 900 polys)

They are working well at my 1.3GHz 1280x1024 resolution. But I haven't played with them in vast masses.

Sorry that I don't know how to create good looking models with less polys.

IMO the map needs to be more focused on the Mediterranean... there seem to be too much desert in the south and too many forests in the north.

Generally, this is the perfect map for TAM.

In detail, it need some historical accuracy work. In ancient times, everything was much more fertile in the southern mediterranean.

As mentioned above, Mesopotamia needs to be more fertile (more grassland). The Maghreb (Carthage, modern Tunisia & Morocco) should be grassland at least up to the mountains, and so the central valleys in the Atlas mountains.

Modern Libya to Egypt (along the coast) was a very fertile area. There are ruins of vast cities there. See the current TAM map.

Also, the southern end of the nile river should be covered with plains going over into grassland. I wand Nubia in this map!

But, the scope of the map is perfect.

So then is this map in addition to the current TAM map, or will it replace the current TAM map?

1.5 is done

the new maps and all that is talked about at the moment will hopefully be in 1.6 (unless that map is available in 5 mins or less!!), so no need to stress!;)

Hope people have a good time playing during the week-end!
We played a couple of MPs with 1.5 before releasing it... Man TAM is really getting different from vanilla!!!

Ok Salut!

thank you thamis i hoped that i did not add too much Land in the east of the Caspian sea :)

But now its from atlantic to the Himalaya and India. The area above modern Iran, Afgahnistan and Pakistan is the Dessert Kara Kum and Kizil Kum,.

The map is far enough east to include all the Empire of Dareios (this was very big and would fill nearly 1/4 of the landmass. or more.

If you could mod Civilization for playing with more than 18 civis it would be create if you add ancient arabia and ancient mauretanian (moors) tribes.

BUT and this is a big BUT:
160x65 Map, new 3D Models, 18 civis or eaven more...
I think my P4, 3.2GHz, 1GB Ram (baught in spring 2004) would not make this in since the middle phase of the game... i realy don't know, we could make it and then test the preformance.

Great! 1.5 is released. Thank you all! and i eaven didn't finisched my 1.4 game.

To my 1.4 game:
Story goes on: I defeated Lydia and took controll over Minor Asia.
I reached position number 2 in the Ranking and Iberia is no more Problem for me.
Dido declared war at Agamemnon and asked me to do the same. I did, yes I did. I Conquerd Crete (one city) and Peleponnes (two citys) one city of Agamemnon is left in Makedonia.
Now there are 70 more turns.
Dido is only less then 10 Points in front.
And i think i should finish this as the winner before i play 1.5

Next thing:
Yes the map is in an early progress. but i will work on and send it to anybody else for the Resource adding, cause i think you could do this better than me.
So one of you could do the last changes on the map when i think it is already ready.

And sorry I don't speak as good enlish as i used to. (maybe you noticed that after my few last posts)

If you could pm me in german about what the map needs, that would be great cause i am not sure about what you telling me. sorry.

So... now I will download 1.5 --- THANK YOU

I just noticed something, and I know its dumb but when I start a game the Illyrians arent' there to choose from. Am I using the wrong map? 1.0 or do I need to add them Manually somehow, or are we just not there yet with them in the build? If y'all could let me know that would be terrific.. All I keep hearing about is how great they are as a civ and (sniff) I cant use em..

Thanks

Yes, you're using the wrong map.

This is the right map, included as an attachment. Delete the previous map, and put this one in its place instead (after unzipping it).

Enjoy :)

NOTE: The NEW version of the map is in a .zip file called TAMv15Map.zip!!!
