The Ancient Mediterranean MOD

I love the TAM!!! Great job, well done guys, THANKS. I am playing as Illyrians and just beat the Myceneans. Good effort on all fronts. Here are a few comments/ideas that might improve the experience (in no way meant to be critical, just feedback). I understand you guys are already very busy as it is!

- maybe create, besides national epic and heroic epic, something like a myth. Or several myths. Maybe they could be renamed by the player following an important battle.
- The ancients loved their statutes, maybe have a few statute city improvements added (e.g statutes of Gods relating to the appropriate religion). A few could be world wonders. And maybe even create a statue on tiles by workers, to commemorate a battle on the tile…
- I hate the colors of the biremes, they look like fluorescent space things and diminish the experience of being in the ancient times. (they also destroyed all my ships)
- Is there any way of making a fortress on an existing mine? Whenever I build one my workers, who are automatized, build a mine instead and I like to protect my borders
- Instead of railroads, maybe add a movement bonus or make the late units move a bit faster

Thanks again for a great MOD!

Thanks again for a great MOD!

Why don't you just reset your options so that automated workers leave old improvements alone?

City defence for warriors will be gone in the next version.

Excellent....BTW Great job with this MOD thamis! ;)

Is it possible to play this MOD on custom or premade maps?

Played the 1,5version last night and I'm in awe!! This mod looks fantastic already!:wow:

In TAM for Civ3 the phoenicians always got beaten up early on, but when I noticed that they are led by the majestic Peter O'Toole in this version, I couldn't resist the challenge. Much to my surprise the other leaders seemed humbled by his presence too, and no wars were waged against me. Perhaps the absence of the assyrians contributed as well. Will they ever be back in the game?

I think the intention is to be able to upgrade your roads to imperial roads instead of railroad.

Clubmen: 25% city defense bonus why? When Archers have none....surely archers have a greater chance of inflicting casualties when defending from walled cities?
You have an older version. They should be called "Tribal Warriors" and not "Clubmen."

When we put out the new release, v1.6, be sure to delete the whole TAM folder before you unzip the new version.

I'm glad you like the Illyrians :D Just be careful of Rome! :p

Your suggestions are useful, but they've been taken into consideration and many of them should be fixed by the next version.

Regarding the Mercenaries Mod, I can incorporate it into a future version :)

Playing on 1.5 now and it's another great step up from 1.4!

Just a couple of balance issues I noticed with the new siege engines:

- Sappers don't upgrade to anything. I'd love it if they upgraded to either of the new siege engines: Ram or Siege Tower

- IIRC, both Ram and Siege Tower become available with Bronze Working. Unfortunately, they have identical stats except for the city bombard, where Siege Tower has 5% more. So why would you ever build a Ram? Either make them available with different techs, or differentiate them in some way.

Seems a shame to waste one of Notarzt's beautiful new skins like that...

Edit: Great about the Mercenary Mod, Shqype, I'd really love that!

Wasn't aware of that one, I'll try it, thanks.

Sqhype, I wanted to defy Rome as Illyrians, but once I saw their legions I suddenly realized their importance for history and decided to become good friends and give them a low-interest loan. I always liked Latin more then Greek... I'll wait for that armored infantry.

I do feel sorry about the mighty Romans as they keep asking me for horses as they seem to have none (they control most of the Germanic map now as well). I find it to be one of civ's biggest flaws that you need the horse resource. They are animals, and can reproduce naturally once you only have two! There should have been a stable improvement for cities instead...

Yes, imperial roads does sound better then railroad.

Siege weapons won't stay as they are. But we need a bit python for the changes. They will make siege warfare more versatile, but I am not sure if they will be implemented in 1.6 yet.

With these changes it won't make sense to upgrade any siege unit to another. (except probably a catapult to a fire catapult).

Elephants have a greater chance to withdraw than Chariots? Chariots were disigned for hit and run tactic? I understand that that an elephant can just walk/run away from a combat, who's going to stop them, but if cavalry are involved in the combat they could just follow. Also Elephants were renowned for going wild in combat...lose control. How could you withdraw a couple of tons of livid flesh?

Horses typically were scared of Elephants, which gave Elephants an advantage over cavalry in combat. So it would be unlikely that the cavalry would run down the elephants. So maybe what I'm saying is that elephants should have an advantage aganist cavalry (if they don't already) and a withdraw bonus when fighting cavalry.

I really like the burial mound and palisade Notazrt. :goodjob: Very very nice.

Just out of curiosity, how does the computer decide which city improvements to display and where to put them? It seems like a builder style of play would quickly "overcrowd" the space available in a city for graphics.

Perhaps Road Building should give +1 movement on roads until imperial roads are implemented. That 2 squares per turn becomes so annoying once you have quite an established empire.

Sometimes mines discover such funny resources like uranium, aluminium and coal. Maybe you should look into that. But thankfully the latter solves my movement problem:p

Thanks for encouragement!
I played a lot with city-size and number of buildings. I don't know exactly how he decides what he displays but he only shows a certain number of buildings. The newer the more likely (thats my impression). So in a 22 city with > 15 buildings most likely the wonders and newest buildings will be displayed.

1.6 is nearly done. Still got some stuff to do though.

Warriors city defense are gone, as are spearman hill defenses bonus, and archers now all have 20% city defense.

Plenty of new buildings will be in, along with some pretty cool units.

the mercenary mod really look s interesting! I talked a bit about it with Thamis, and we both think it could be really good to have that in TAM... It's planned, bot not in the near future. Maybe in a couple of versions!;) Would need some adjustments of course, but I'll certainly implement it!

About the Diplomatic Victory:

I don't like the Idea that Diplomatic Victory should have something to do with Religion. In times of the great Muhammed, Persia defeated Byzanz in the nearer east. In times as arabian muslims conquered persia the persians still had their religion zoraism.

just look at the whole thing there wasn't any relgion victory in the world since now. so why do you want to include something like that.

Romans ever tryed to tell other folks what they have to belive. and thats cause i hate them, cause they lie and they lie and they lie and tell others that this is the true. the deformed the evangelium. they deformed the religion jesus had, to make their imperialism polytheism religion out of it. orthodox christians never told that jesus is god and said that maria is the mother of god. that are lies the romans developed in their fanatism. there is only one god and that is what romans didn't belived. Not as the christians wo belived in god and then belived in jesus and said truely jesus is the messiah and jesus is a prophet of god. just remember! in psalms of david there stand that jesus will come. and in the evangelium there stands that muhammed will come as the seal of the prophets god was sending to us, to help us out of the darkness and bring us on the right way.
So i realy don't like the idea that romans win the game cause of their state religion (wich had not much to do with the religion of jesus).
they can conquer our land, they can kill our people the can steal our food but they won't take away our religion.
Romans were devils, and you all know that, they also wanted to cross jesus but god secured jesus and the romans crossed a man who only looked like jesus. and jesus never died, jesus was going up to the heaven where the prophets are.

so please belive me romans were telling too much lies. don't belive this devils who say they got no sins who say the folk of the jews did it. don't belive this devils, please don't belive them.

And realy if romans would win the game cause of their cross. i would not like to be on tam.

I think you got me wrong here.

Anyone can win a religious victory.

And the Holy Roman Empire was actually German (Barbarossa).

The point is not what happened, and also not how it SHOULD be, but what people dreamed of back then. And back then (that is after Rome and the Goths and the Franks became Christian), they dreamed of a Europe politically united by one religion (quite similar to the dream of the Islamic 'Umma, which never materialized).

And please don't take this personally. It's a game, and we're not trying to say which religion is better than the other. I'm just looking at history, how it developed, and how people back then wanted history to develop, and try to put that in game terms.
