In a current game, I am part of a buddhism love fest that includes the AP. The two non Buddhists are on opposite ends of a snake like map (fractal). I think there is very little chance I can take more than one city before the AP forces peace on me and I think I have buddhism in too many cities to be able to withstand "the world thinks you are a villian".

How do you guys normally proceed in these situations?

1. Prepare to attack someone else the turn peace is enforce, this way you will have 10 turns to fight without interruptions.
2. Get enough vote to turn down any proposal.
3. Capture or Raze AP.
4. Exploit love fest.
Usually, last option is the easiest; 2 and 3 are available when you go for cuirs rush.

I like tip 1 ... not sure about 4, I don't think my land and position is good enough to win a peaceful game at this stage.

Well, I tend to time my attacks on an AP member by the AP timer, which gives you like 10 turns. That is not always optimal timing wise from a mil tech perspective. Still... If you plan your war properly or otherwise attacking a soft target, you may be able to cap them during that time. If not, the main approach I use is ceasefires. I take a ceasefire the turn before the vote is to take place, so the turn of the vote is something else..then another 10 turns to attack.

Second, I try to get a majority of the AP votes, if possible, I look to become the resident...not always possible depending on diplo climate, but I often pull this off. Capturing the AP ensure you are up for election. Look to sow discord if at all possible between AP members ..some AI can be bribed at Pleased.

Alex appears to have no city with the AP religion, still vote for religious leader pops every 10 turns. Is it because of Alex being Suleiman's vassal?

Your image is broken.

You cannot win diplomatic (either UN or AP) if your civilization alone has enough votes to win. Vassals are counted as separate civilizations for this rule. A vassal that controls the UN/AP (or is second in votes when someone else controls it) will be the second contender*. Otherwise, your vassal will vote for you. Thus, the diplomation win.

*I think that if no one is running in the AP religion (or only one civ is in the AP religion), then only the controller of the AP (or civ in AP religion) comes up as a candidate for religious leader. Thus the AP cheese win.
