The Comprehensive Thread of Requests For the Next Version of TAM

Military units are too cheap, thus we end with tons of units, it does not add any thing to the game and makes it too cumbersome. adding 30% cost to all units would be a good thing

I'm playing on the 24 civ map, on Noble, as the Romans (1 game) and the Persians (another game). In both cases, partway through the game, my cities stop growing around 9, 10+ size. They'll get right up to 1 turn left to grow, and then stay there. For clarity, this is not during Anarchy. I can't figure out what might be triggering it. If this could be fixed in the next TAM, that would be great!

Really, really good mod overall, though. :goodjob:

Very strange indeed.
Check your food, happiness and policies in your city screen because I never experimented this fault.
Usually in TAM you have low happiness compare to standard BTS. May be citizen unhappiness halts city grow.

Thanks! That's not it, though. I just double-checked and the city has plenty of happiness and health to go before hitting limits.

What about war weariness. I am currently testing as Carthage, and with the civics i am using, my war weariness comes into play and stifles happiness, which eventually stifles health and growth.

My capital Carthage is a size 20, and only has these issues when I am in a prolonged war period.

I will keep an eye on this on my next test, I am about to wrap up as Carthage.

Thanks, Graywarden! That's not it, either (I think). I'm not at war at the moment, though I did just finish a war. If war weariness is it, then I'm puzzled: my captial city is one of the ones not growing, and using it as an example: it's stuck on "Growing (1 turn)", it has health of 16 vs illness of 12, happiness of 16 vs unhappiness of 10. If war weariness were the culprit, wouldn't I see more unhappiness, etc.? I'd post a screenshot, or other file, but can't get a decent resolution due to the attachment file size limits.

ok then it may be a bug of some kind with that particular game. sometimes the files will corrupt.

the next game you start, let me know if it reoccurs.

i just finished the Carthage test, and my capital was at size 22 and all was fine
and my warring was over at that point.

The problem has shown up in two games so far (Roman, then Persian) that were back to back. If it shows again, I'll let you know. Thanks!

Have any of the changes posted in this thread developed into a patch?

No patch as of yet that I am aware of.
I am about to begin test 4 of what we are calling version 2.082A

Hopefully one will develop soon

Ok, thank you for the answer. I like the game very much, but I can't help but feel that the changes that ExMachina suggested would make it even better. If I would like to change things myself, what program would I need to be able to modify for example the tech tree? Where can I find the program and are there any good walkthroughs/manuals for it's use?

EDIT: XML uses Wordpad :) I may have a go at some basic modding then!

One bug in particular has bothered me for some time through several versions of TAM and through two computers/operating systems. It causes an application crash and I've always believed it is related to first strike animations.

Here are my observations:
The crash occurs sometimes when attacking enemy archers/bowmen.
When a crash occurs it will always repeat on loading a save game.
It is possible to get around a crash by changing the RNG seed (attacking something else before re-fighting the crash fight).
I typically was playing Romans.

Tonight I saw crashes while being attacked by Nubian Mercenaries while playing Carthage.
Same behavior as above with intermittance and RNG seed.
While running tests I was able to isoslate the one option setting that prevents the crash, turning on Quick Combat.
Turning off sound and changing graphic settings appear to have no effect.

I'm currently running Civ4 1.7.4, TAM 2.01, Vista SP1 64bit. Unfortunately I don't have BTS to test with, but the bug has been the same for several TAM versions prior to 2.01 and was the same on my old computer with compeltely different hardware and XP SP2 32bit.

Thanks,
Haplo

Thanks Haplo for your detailed report.
Unfortunately TAM vanilla has no more tech support.
I suggest to use your "quick combat" workaround whenever a CTD arises.

Developement team is working on BTS new version only

I never got BTS as it sounded like it was more for periods "Beyond the Sword" and, like most people here, I'm into ancient periods. In fact, I never play Civ4 except for TAM, which I started during Civ3.

But am I missing some good TAM functionality without BTS?

Haplo

Haplo,

the number of improvements from Civ4 to CivBTS are too numerous to itterate here.
I have been testing since Civ4 Vanilla and there is no way i could go back.
I like you very rarely play anything besides Civ BTS, and almost never vanilla. I test for two Mods, and when im not testing im playing the Fall from Heaven 2 mod.

whatever you pay now for the BTS upgrade will more then pay for itself in the YEARS of replayability, and almost all Mod work in the CIV4 world is based on BTS at this point.

dont bother with Warlords, go straight to BTS is my recommendation.

Sorry I have to drag this thread a bit more off-topic,
but maybe this results in a feature request ...

I'm not sure, but I had to reinstall Civ4 lately (switched from W2k to WinXP), and I found that lots of mods do not work with Civ4+BtS alone, but require Warlords to be installed as well.

I'm pretty sure this applies for Rhyes', and maybe TAM-BtS,too, ... and therefore my feature request would be then to remove this dependancy if possible ?!

No, Tam doesn't require warlord. I state it for sure ;)

I think time pass too fast, I was still developing Italia and I got the message 100 turns remaining.

The obvious question now - how incompatible with 3.19 is TAM? Would it run or not?
