The Disappearing Male (documentary)

I sent it to him for a reason. My wife and I had been very, er, lazy about not getting pregnant and yet she didn't. I asked my doctor about it and he set up an appointment to... test me. Turns out that I have a very low sperm count, but that this "was becoming more frequent"

If environmental factors like pollution and the sun can interfere with our skin and our lungs, I don't see why something else couldn't interfere with our balls.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not about to move to a cabin in rural northern Ontario, but it's something worth looking into.

Dunno what to tell you. I didnt have that issue.

But I did have a friend in high school who had something go wrong with his testes and they swelled horribly. He had to take these godawful big pills that made his piss bright orange.

Of course we made his nickname 'balls'.

Brutal.

Balls receive the same blood flow that the rest of your body does.
Well, maybe. I was under the impression that they received a rather generous blood flow much of the time.
Population control is always a good idea until you're the one in the gas chamber, denied food or whose mate has to undergo an "involuntary" abortion.
Yes, because generally lower fertility rates is just the same as putting me in a gas chamber.
I don't think that we should propagate the right to have as many children as we can churn out. That right does not exist in a crowded world. I'm not suggesting that we forcefully abort healthy embryos: just that a world in which it takes more effort for everyone to conceive is not all bad.

Actually, I am going to disagree here.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the testes require a lower temperature from the rest of the body for peak sperm production. In fact, I remember reading that men spending a lot of time in hot tubs run the risk of low sperm count and possibly temporary infertility because the heat from the tub can kill your swimmers off. Wouldnt increased blood flow work against this premise by bringing more body heat to the testes?

I think most folks get this confused with blood flow to the penis...not the testes. There is a reason those boys dangle.

Right. By "dangling" they can stay like 2 degrees Fahrenheit cooler or something, which makes all the difference.

Even having a laptop on your lap too much puts the little guys at risk.

As far as blood flow bringing body heat, I dont really know, but it would make sense if thats the case.

Well as a father... I would assume as much.

There's a lot of reasons for male infertility (though I am not infertile, I just have a much lower chance of making babies; this is okay with me for now) but the idea that environment couldn't be one of them is silly. There's a lot of testing to be done!

I think it'd be interesting to see birth rates in places that have low direct exposure to the plastics talked about in the video and compare that to places with high direct exposure.

I didn't see the youtube films, but I know that the world is feminizing (is this a word?). It's happening through hormones in the contraceptives which are spread through our water supply (yes, we recycle water). This could mean that the male sex could become insignificant or become extinct.
This, however, should not be that much of a deal for the human race. If scientists would develop human cloning, it should be possible for women to survive on a planet without men ( even without a sperm supply ). When you'd clone a human, you would take an sex cell (from the ovary) and implant any other cell from the human body. This second cell can be taken from any other person, it could from be the same or another man/woman. Then you'd stir it around a little in a laboratory and hope the sex cell is fertilized. After that you do the same procedure as In Vitro Fertilization.

A : watch the videos and/or at least contribute to the article or

maybe people would watch the videos.....if they were available in their countries.....it's not running for me, anyway :)

Maybe this is a good thing? There will be less violence and aggression in this world.

Yeah maybe... Bast just out of a matter of interest, are you considered an intelligent girl by your contemporaries?

Looks like none of them are available in our countries anymore. Stupid youtube. :(

The article in the OP sums it up.

CBC probably didn't want to pay for them to be view outside Canada. :(

Someone will just repost them later :)

I dunno about that. I have seen more than my share of female violence and agression before.

Well, females tend toward passive aggression more than males [/brash generalization]. I guess that might be a step up, I don't know.

Oh, and blast it that those videos do not work outside of Canada apparently. Odd, since i was allowed to watch the first three parts yesterday and then no more.

I've already made numerous lifestyle changes with this in mind but I'm going to make more henceforth. For one, returning a few 5-gallon polycarbonate containers I have. I already don't use lotion & only certain types of soap, etc. But this really isn't enough.
What kind of soaps would that be? Handmade seems pretty expensive...

I just get soaps with no artificial fragrances in them generally. Dr Bronner's for example. Well actually my GF always gets the soap (and toothpaste & whatnot) & I just trust her judgment & share what she gets.

They dangle to cool the blood, not reduce the blood supply. You bleed profusely from your testes as well as from your penis (if you cut yourself) for a reason.

For some unknown reason, I've always wondered what kind of bleeding you would get if you cut a guy's penis while he has an erection. But I guess we're drifting off-topic...
