The drawing thread

Plotinus is not pictured.

The guy reading the "Life on Earth" book is supposed to be Truronian, represented by Sir David Attenborough. I haven't drawn him well...

The person with three eyes is my representation of ainwood.

Turner doesn't have an avatar, but I've always imagined him wearing a cap, so that's the cap-wearing guy.

Eran is holding the sword.

Yeah, I need to draw moar. Particularly, all of them except for Camikaze (shadow, far left) should look, um, more chronologically enriched. :p

Looks a bit, erm, hunchbacked.

Just finished another painting.

I'm still a little slow at these I think. It took me roughly 25 hours to get this done.

I do an initial sketch on paper and scan it in (I can't seem to get the hang of drawing with my tablet). From there I paint over it in photoshop with my tablet.

We can't, the chronomancers are all dead!

I second the above. It's just... damn impressive.

The last picture... oh God... I know that guy.

Someone asked for bigger tits, not for someone to be a tit :p

I did some drawings when I was on holiday. I only did about seven, and they're all terrible, but I did improve two of them when I got back. When I went to any of the beaches I did take my small sketchbook, but I never did anything because of the weacher and how suspicious people are. I think the drawings may look a bit worse than they would because for some reason scanners can pick up rubber smudges easier than pencil lines.

This is the first drawing that I did, just as a kind of practice.

Everyone will hate me more than usual for this drawing. This is one of the drawings I improved when I got back from holiday.

I tried to draw a picture of Batman, but I came out really terrible,

I think this is one of the better drawings that I did, but it's still not that good as I think I got the proportions wrong.

I did this one quickly. This is just a random idea that I had.

Another quick drawing. I think this one I did in about ten minutes.

Another drawing that will probably make everyone hate me more. This is the other drawing that I improved when I got back.

Better than mine. :)

Agreeing with Thorvald. You definately have a good go at anatomy in every single case of those drawings. :)

I think they look great for sketches.
As far as the smudging issue is concerned, have you considered doing the initial sketch in a Non-photo Blue pencil and then going over the lines your happy with using a graphite pencil? I recently switched to that myself after seeing it in action.

Do those pencils have any other names? I've seen a few of them but can't get hold of them.

I think I've heard them called cartooning pencils, but I'm not sure. I've never actually seen them in-store. If you have a Staples nearby, you can order a pack of 12 and have free to-store shipping. If you get some, make sure they're the erasable ones. I know that Prismacolor makes both a col-erase and a standard colored pencil by the same name, and if you get the standard one, your SOL when it comes to erasing.

Hmm, I must find out, I know a couple local cartoonists from a newspaper.

Oooh, oooh I have to try this.

I'm still continuing my Chicago series. I even went back and improved upon a couple of the older paintings I had posted before a while ago.

buckingham_fountain_by_dklockner-d48fjmi.jpg

Buckingham Fountain in Grant park [watercolor and ink on paper 8"x10"], with some of the Chicago skyline in the background. You can see the Sears (Willis) Tower; the tallest building in the Western world. It's the first in this series where I've had to use two point perspective drawing (the others are conveniently all pretty much one point perspective).
I think I might completely redo the sky at some point, because I'm not completely satisfied how it looks. Although I'm thinking I might not because it helps the painting not look too "photographic" if that makes sense.

cloudgate_2_by_dklockner-d48fkb6.jpg

Cloudgate in Millennium park. In the reflection of the sculpture you can see the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. The only noticable improvement I made was to the diamond shaped Stone Container building on the right.
*Also of special note: the building on the extreme right edge of the "Buckingham Fountain" painting is the same building depicted in the "Cloudgate" painting above; it's the tall building in the middle that bisects the sky.

art_institute_of_chicago_by_dklockner-d48fjwx.jpg

The Art Institute of Chicago. This is the old one that I improved upon the most.

chicago_theatre_by_dklockner-d48fk4b.jpg

The Chicago Theatre. I recently posted this one before, but this is a much better scan that more accurately presents the colors in the original paiting. I added a generic text stand in for the marquee. I left the original blank so when I sell prints I can customize the text.
